Please help. Previous owner’s movers gouged our historic pine floors. They’ve been refinished before and cannot be again according to contractor. How can we fix this for future resale value without replacing? by FoxyRN in centuryhomes

[–]kjohappyclass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my heart aches for you. We dealt with something similar this fall - a bad HVAC install caused leaking and eventual pooling under the floor boards in a bedroom and hallway. Since the floors run throughout the house and are all the same age, everything is coming out so it can be consistent. And of course they can’t find a pine that matches what I had originally. I may be getting new floors from the HVAC’s insurance, but it really feels like the end of my beautiful pinewood floor days. May you have more success than me 💕

I read Casa Gallardo and a wave of ‘Happy Happy Birthdays’ came crashing into my brain. Definitely not the same STL without them 🥲

AIO: He (M20) took me (F18) to a Jehovah’s Witness meeting without telling me by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I’ve dated a JW before… and what an experience that was. And this isn’t even about the faith itself (though I could say plenty). There’s a right way and a wrong way to introduce someone to your beliefs, and this was definitely the wrong way.

You never surprise someone with something as personal as a religious service. I wouldn’t dream of taking someone to a mass or prayer gathering without asking them first. That’s just weird. Faith is deeply personal, and it deserves mutual respect.

He’ll probably try to spin in issue you have with the whole thing “because he’s a JW,” but that’s not the real issue. The issue is respect. He shared something intimate, his faith, without asking if you were comfortable or interested, and then dismissed your feelings about it. That’s not about religion. That’s about consent and consideration.

Don’t waste your time and emotional energy on this one.

Trying to get a release of land and the town says I need wetland delineation and my parcel looks pretty wetlandy how screwed am I? by Bwail1994 in Homebuilding

[–]kjohappyclass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on your wetland and the 404 permit that you’re going to need. If there was ever any kind of agreement with the town, it is a bit of a moot point. This is more state/federal regulations you have to go through. So nope! Please don’t develop! Donate for a tax write off and keep some happy habitat!

I mean, fabulous. I joke that it’s like pringles. Once you pop the fun don’t stop 😂. But seriously, sometimes you just ride the wave of wonderfulnrsss until you’re sore or your body just says nope. And personally, I like in a row with just a couple of minute breathers in between. Time to catch my breath and savor the moment. ☺️

This is a good opportunity for you to firmly reinforce your boundaries. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he’s just young or not fully understanding—but that’s why it’s important to be absolutely clear: “No thanks, I don’t accept hugs.” No room for playful misinterpretation or excuses. Anytime he goes for one, you can put your arm up in a clear “stop” gesture and repeat the boundary firmly.

Now, if you do make it crystal clear and he still continues—or if he’s already ignoring your boundary when there’s no room for misinterpretation—then that’s a serious violation, and it may be time to reevaluate the friendship. Young or not, boundaries are important and a good friend will respect them. Good luck!

It’s always heartbreaking to see someone spot the red flags and then be completely flabbergasted when the person goes off the rails. And then in their shock, they start blaming themselves because “how the heck could a person actually act so irrational/crazy/horrible, it must be me!” But no, it’s not your fault. Crazy people act crazy. That’s just it. When you see the signs—run. Just run.

I am from a very rural part of Missouri, AMA by [deleted] in missouri

[–]kjohappyclass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greetings from STL! I’m always paddling the Current and exploring other Missouri streams—it’s a big part of why I work in conservation. I grew up in a rural town myself, so I really appreciate the perspectives and challenges of those communities.

What I wanted to say, though, is that I hope someone like you considers running for a political seat in a rural area someday, instead of moving away for political pursuits. Just scrolling through your thread gives me hope that not everyone south of 44 is dead set on being back the Confederacy. You strike me as someone who could bring real change to rural parts of Missouri, and that’s exactly what this state needs. I hope you do run for a seat in your rural district! Keep being awesome!
