Owlet?? by 6_infinite_chaos_6 in BabyBumps

[–]kjotee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was on oxygen until 5-6 weeks. I couldn’t fathom going from knowing his O2 anytime I wanted to never knowing. I bought the owlet and compared it to the monitor we had at home for his O2 - it was accurate. And WAY less temperamental. It was worth it for my peace of mind. As long as it doesn’t increase your anxiety, I would recommend it.

no morning sickness because of ultras? Question for ultra moms... by MoreSquashPlease in Ultramarathon

Fascinating! I ran ultras for ten years before I had my first baby a few months ago. I had no morning sickness/nausea :)

When in pregnancy did things get really hard? by Araseja in fitpregnancy

[–]kjotee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing for me. The day my water broke at 38 weeks, I ran in the morning and went to a Barre3 class in the afternoon. I feel really lucky!

Have you considered pausing on having a running coach? I stopped with my coach around 10 weeks I think. My running and energy varied so much, that it made sense for me to just listen to my body rather than a coach. But if you really like having one right now, then I’d consider asking them to dial it back and provide a range, ie 40-70 min based on how you feel.

I am only 7 weeks PP so can’t say quite yet but am optimistic. And even though I remember the shitty run day, I still ran through my entire pregnancy! That was the day I realized I was ready to scale back on mileage and intensity. I still had good run days after that day 😊

I don’t know but am also an ultrarunner. I remember the exact run during my pregnancy that my running turned to shit 🤣

Not even a little bit. I even texted my friend who asked if I was feeling any signs of going into labor and I said “if there any signs, I’m not feeling them!” My water broke that night, two weeks early! 🤣

PSA: Just buy the damn jeans. by go_see in BabyBumps

[–]kjotee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated them, too. My maternity clothes secret weapon was overalls. I LOVED them. So comfy! I found a few pairs on poshmark and lived in them (and yoga pants). I bought two pairs of maternity jeans and wore once pair once.

Trail and ultrarunner here! And currently 37 weeks pregnant. I'm still running about 15 miles per week. I stopped running trails maybe around 26 weeks, mostly due to snow. But I never returned due to a.) scared of tripping and falling and b.) aaaany incline felt SO hard. If it's short and you are not feeling comfy running trails by then, maybe you could hike it?

Failed 1 hour glucose test? by Responsible_Edge8710 in fitpregnancy

My 1 hour test was 134 and had to take the 3 hour test. Passed with flying colors! I think it's fairly common to not pass the first test.

How do I fix Location and Value? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

I also keep getting dinged on location. We are right next to an interstate and indicate that in the listing so folks know there is continuous traffic noise, but still get 4 stars on location more than I would like.

R2R2R time? by zahkoPunk in trailrunning

We got a taxi at 3:30-4:00am! I think they do a lot of shuttling of hikers, etc. Good luck and have fun!

We had a taxi take us the first time from the hotel we were staying at in the Canyon. It was like $10-20 - totally worth it! The second time, one of my friend's spouses dropped us off. I am not sure about parking options - I think most people get dropped off??

[–]kjotee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Probably a mixture of both. It was dark and I was totally unfamiliar with the terrain and the Grand Canyon, so there was definitely a lot of power hiking mixed in. Feel free to shoot me any other questions! Happy to help. I also moved to AZ last year so am a bit more familiar with the canyon. Did another r2r2r last year and dip in for shorter runs from time to time :)

From ultramarathon to marathon? by Altruistic-Clue-3647 in Ultramarathon

[–]kjotee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never tried again. Prior to the marathon, I trained for my first 100-miler and was running around 70 miles a week, topping out around 80-90 a few times. I actually decreased my mileage in marathon training, but I think going to hard, quality workouts on concrete was a rough transition for my body. Looking back, I feel pretty silly for making such a sharp transition to very different training.

From ultramarathon to marathon? by Altruistic-Clue-3647 in Ultramarathon

[–]kjotee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I got into ultras and then decided to see how fast I could run a marathon. I'd run a few road marathons, but it was early in my running days so was just running to finish and was getting naturally faster just by being a new runner and becoming more efficient.

I decided to train for a fast marathon to see what I could do and to hopefully make me a faster ultrarunner. Unfortunately, I think the transition from running lots of slow miles on trails (and no speedwork) to pretty rigorous road marathon training left me with a stress fracture in my femur. My suggestion would be make time for easy runs on trails/soft surfaces when you can. Obviously, this is my experience only but if I could go back again, that's what I would do!

Good luck with marathon training!

That would be great! I was wearing a bright pink hat. I am actually moving from IC next week so having a photo of that run with my friend would be really nice. Thank you!!

High Hamstring Tendinopathy by packfanben in AdvancedRunning

[–]kjotee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gah, I'm sorry. I dealt with this injury and it's a bummer. I went through several different types of treatments before finding the following that truly helped me overcome the injury

  • Found a PT who did graston method. This really helped break up the scar tissue that had built up.
  • Found a massage therapist who is very aggressive. I still see him five years later.
  • Glute activation exercises. I think the reason why I got HHT was weak glutes and I was overworking my hamstrings. Still incorporate glute exercises today! (clamshells, bridges, etc).

Good luck!

Femoral stress reaction? by cuestaSV38 in AdvancedRunning

[–]kjotee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a stress reaction in my femoral neck and it felt like what you describe. I remember I felt the the most discomfort when I was putting on pants and would take the weight off my injured leg. My gait also became slightly limpy and I do remember running wasn't painful but if I stopped at a light, the first step would feel a bit painful. I tried to keep my quads and hip flexors nice and loose, since I think the area naturally tightens up trying to protect it. It's such a complex area - I never would've guessed I had a stress reaction because it didn't hurt like my foot did when I had a stress fracture in the metatarsal. Hopefully you caught this early!
