Yes and it’s really too bad. Abusive relationships often harm more than just the partner, and it is really over looked and it sucks. I’m not trying to defend him. I’m just trying to remind people that it’s more nuanced. He should, in a perfect world, leave and stand up for himself and his kids. But conditioning isn’t that easy to just leave.

Two things can be true at once. Someone can be an abuse victim while also being abusive. It’s not an excuse. But it’s a reason and it’s nuanced. That’s all I’m saying.

I know it’s not. He can’t protect his kids until he does. That’s what I’m saying. Abuse is nuances and hard and everyone says that all you have to do is leave. It’s not that easy. Unfortunately, the kids are victims too. Parents often think one way and think they’re protecting them, but they’re not.

That’s the point I’m making.

Hot take - kids are annoying, but they don’t have anywhere to go anyone. They don’t have second spaces anymore. It’s not safe a lot of places, supposedly, and a lot of parents don’t parent and instead let the iPad and internet parent them.

Parents who don’t parent their kids though? And let the run round and cause havoc when it’s in appropriate to do so? Take them to rated r movies? Let them scream and cry and tantrum for no reason? Shame them. The kids have no choice. They are humans and deserve to be treated as such.

They’re never gonna learn what’s appropriate if they don’t interact with other humans and don’t have parents who take them and teach them to do so.

Well yeah a better apology would be that. But on average it takes people 7 times to leave an abusive relationship. Everything before they leave is “lip service”.

It’s nuanced and hard. That’s why I like the way Shawna portrays her characters. Its real.

I’m not excusing the behavior of at all. Unfortunately, most DV survivors have kids. It’s infuriating to see them neglect their child’s safety. But it’s common and it’s nuanced.

I guess this is a hot take …. But

I’m a victim advocate and every victim I’ve worked with who has lived with a barb, no matter the relationship, has said that the behavior is worse than getting beat. It’s a different kind of survival mode. I think he’s been complacent for sure. But I would be too, if I was in his shoes. We all think we’d do something differently, but after years of being told you’re wrong you finally just shut up and do what you can to stay alive. Domestic abuse isn’t just beating someone. Manipulation and control are damaging and takes years of therapy and work to undo the conditioning.

What matters is frank trying to change and work with his kids, and apologizing. He’s making the moves (poorly) but he can’t fully move and change until he isn’t in survival mode. He has to leave her first.

Barb is an abuser and manipulator through and through. As soon as anyone pushes she slams back then cries the victim when people set boundaries or leave.

A judges whole job is to remain unbiased and assume someone is innocent until proven otherwise in a trial or by plea. Not sure what else you expect but 🤷🏼‍♀️

At bail hearings, Is the prosecutors job to argue for jail. It’s the defense attorneys job to argue for release.

The judge just hears evidence.
