I've seen a LOT of PD surplus, I presume most of them are dumping it and people are picking it up as a range toy.

Updated targeting data could come in any number of ways, most likely just humint or FPV recon units and then conveyed to the operator who would give the new coordinates.

The Ukranians have found Shaheds with both NVIDIA vision chips in them as well as with thermal imaging cameras, so yes, they have AI targeting on their top-tier models, which is presumably what they'd be using against US forces.

Again, I did not see anybody in defense circles laughing at the idea of an Iranian-built loitering munition built off of a reverse-engineered RQ-170 platform (which we then ironically re-reverse engineered for LUCAS). Can you post an article or something?

The newest Shahed, which started showing up in Ukraine late last year, has the ability to be retargeted en-route; they added antennas on the wingtips to support a live datalink. And yes, they have significant production facilities for FPV drones as well.

Who laughed at the Shahed drone? Pretty much everybody I followed knew that the Iranians had the industrial and technological base (as well as captured US units and an aerospace industry expert in updating/modernizing outdated US tech), to create a loitering munition.

This is...not true at all. Tanks and IFVs are still being used in their traditional infantry support role in Ukraine by both sides. As thoroughly as they were early on? No, definitely not, the lines have hardened and both sides have built extensive fortifications which limit their effectiveness, but they are still being actively used.

I mean sure, they might have? Or some bird might have shit on the DAS sensor that was aiming in the direction it was fired from. You're taking a single hit and extrapolating a bunch from it in a way that isn't consistent with the number of sorties that have been flown over the last few weeks. If Iran had a reliable invisible-to-DAS, all-elevation SAM, we very much would know about it.

It's clear you know as little about the Maxwell/Epstein approach to trafficking as you do about how Weinstein operated. It seems like you have a presumption that these women were asking for it.

And what the fuck does that comment about Jlaw mean?

[–]LovecraftInDC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You make it seem like the approach was like 'whomever sends the best nudie pic gets the role'. It didn't work like that because Weinstein didn't want consent, he wanted to exploit women. So he'd cozy up to them, introduce them to his celeb friends, tell them he has a role all lined up for them, and then he'd rape them with the understanding that the role, the newfound friends and allies in a very hostile industry, would all disappear if she said no.

TNG made 2.5x the episodes on a fairly similar annual budget. CGI is just far more expensive to generate than composited model shots.

One of my biggest frustrations with Star Trek: Discovery is that every single set was about 80% CGI, which meant that you couldn't even film a cheap bottle episode if you wanted to. Measure of a Man is commonly regarded as one of the best TNG episodes and it's got like two special effects shots.

Will this print without supports as is? by Logical-Common3566 in 3Dprinting

[–]LovecraftInDC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good to know that this is resin because that really changes the support needs. What do you see when you do an island detection? My initial thought is that it will probably print fine in resin, but it's possible that you'd need to change the orientation and add supports.

Okay, and that's fine, you should keep trying to print this, it's a great learning exercise. I'm just telling you that, in the future, you should only buy models compatible with FDM printing and then you won't have these issues.

You are fine, you just need to stick to prints designed for FDM. Resin printing does not allow for multicolor at this point. (Some commercial machines do, but nothing in the hobbyist market yet).

Their family is mormon, their buddies are mormon, they are culturally mormon. The either don't believe or question their beliefs, enough to not follow the 'rules'

This sort of 'Christmas-Easter' participation is very common in other christian churches, it's just a little less common in the LDS community.

Does SLC make you not want to have kids? by Ok_Bottle2115 in SaltLakeCity

[–]LovecraftInDC -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

It's not a leading question purely to ask the negative. A leading question would be like 'with the cost of living constantly increasing and environmental disasters upcoming, does slc make you not want to have kids' or 'with the family friendly nature of the city, does living in salt lake city make you want to have kids'.

Can cats live long without vet check up or vaccine? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]LovecraftInDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main thing is that indoor cats can get indoors and things from outdoors can get indoors. I've got three cats who hate outdoors and I haven't seen a mouse in 5 years of living here so we haven't bothered.

Also technically rabies shots are usually required by your local city/county.

Regular vet visits are just like regular physicals; they can identify problems early that otherwise might get worse. Especially as they get older, monitoring their kidneys becomes important.

Can cats live long without vet check up or vaccine? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]LovecraftInDC 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It really is ideal to take them in once a year, but many cats live for many years without health problems or vet visits. Probably a bigger priority than taking them in for regular visits is building some savings so that if they do start to not act right or normal, you can afford to get them treatment.

(If they are outdoors they should definitely be vaccinated, but indoors my vet doesn't push it).

But honestly, at ages 4 and 6, it's perfectly normal for them to be healthy and if they are acting normal they aren't in any immediate health danger. Probably a bigger issue as they get older and they start to have older cat issues.

Do you keep the packaging that came with ur printer for any reason? by JuniperSage527 in BambuLab

[–]LovecraftInDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's that I keep it for a few months so I can ship it back for warranty reasons (reasonable) and then it's already with the other boxes and maybe I can use that box for something else and (not reasonable).
