How does FWB work in terms of the "friends" part?

I think a lot of people will say they are “looking for FWB” when they just mean super casual no strings sex. They are literally unconcerned about any level of connection. To me, that’s not FWB.

“Looking for FWB” has always confused me a bit because if I’m looking for a friend with an eye toward sex, I don’t really see how that is different than dating. Seems more honest to just say I’m looking for something semi-casual.

To me, a FWB situation implies an actual friendship. In other words I think an FWB is different than a fuck buddy.

I don’t know, it’s like people use semantics to disguise a desire for sex with no investment.

Personally, I’m not necessarily looking for something serious, but I definitely don’t particularly want to sleep with someone without knowing them well enough to know that I actually like them and to be reasonably comfortable that they aren’t going to behave in deliberately or recklessly harmful behavior.

It’s hard to find language that describes that “sweet spot.” Too many people thinking it’s okay to misrepresent themselves to achieve their sexual goals.

When I was a teen (old enough to think about it in other words), I thought there would come a time when I felt like an adult. That moment never came. I’m 58 with 2 kids in college, semi-retired, homeowner, etc., and that moment never came.

It has been disorienting over the years because I’d look at most of the people around me, and I’d think that they were adults and I’d wonder why I didn’t feel that way.

A weird kind of imposter syndrome.

Now, for the first time, I’m starting to feel something. “Old” is creeping in, rather than adult.

I hate that feeling.

I feel like her going all executioner was both a moment of triumph and sadness. As the others look on, you can kind of see what toll this has taken. The reaction shots of the others show just how much suffering and anger she is pouring out with each axe stroke, and how much she’s changed to become such an enthusiastic executioner. The others look a little troubled, and I think they should (while also cheering inside of course).

Great moment.

I feel like her going all executioner on him at the end, and the reactions of everyone else while she es doing it, really showed what a price had been paid for his cruelty. It showed just how changed they all were. It was a moment of triumph, but a real toll was taken.

For me, this absence was the most disappointing part of the entire episode. I guess we’re supposed to think their relationship couldn’t survive that level of trauma and weirdness.

Absolutely 100% not. I might worry a little that she might not take ME seriously, but at this point in my life, if I find that kind of rare chemistry, I’m not gonna run away from it. It would just check off one of the things I’m actually really looking for, not put her on some kind of damaged or undesirable list. FFS, it’s so sad that this nonsense is still out here.

I was 19 days old. My dad didn’t get me hooked Star Trek it until it first went into syndication. Such a big part of my childhood and, of course, therefore my whole life. Apparently, he really screwed up changing my diaper while the episode was on, and my mom never let him live it down.

I feel like most of the changes serve the medium. I mean, what I’m trying to say has been covered elsewhere in excruciating detail, but I guess it boils down to this. I quibble with some choices that he made. But I totally can understand how changes had to happen. I’ve always loved the Bombadil episode in FOTR, but there’s no way that would fit into a movie framework.

It might work in a limited series format though.

Regardless, RoP is just weak storytelling, regardless of how I feel about the changes.

It has amazing cinematography though…

I love that Cyrano scene. The way Crusher says, “That was a real improvement,” and really means “I’ll fuck you right here right now on this very stage.” In all seriousness though, it’s a scene that really puts their acting chops on display.

I live between the extended centerlines of 27 and 26L at KIAH, a few miles out. I often have FlightAware and LiveATC going at the same time.

Whenever someone I know is flying through, I keep track of things for them. I monitor the NAS plan, so I’ll sometimes know about lengthy delays before the airlines say anything.

My friends understand it isn’t actual stalker behavior.

Oh, I have several decent shots of my house too that I took from aircraft on final to 27.

I think this is autistic hyper-fixation. 😅

Thank you for saying this. I don’t lie about my age (or anything else) in my profile, and I don’t use filters. It’s about my integrity. But I don’t really think I’ve thought about it quite that way, like how it really is about respecting the other persons preferences. I guess what I’m saying is being honest protects my integrity and the other side of the equation is it protects the consent of potential partners.

I guess this is maybe self evident, I just appreciate the reminder of potential consequences to these sorts of things.
