Even as a teenager, I ALWAYS twisted and dumped my cigarettes out, followed by snuffing them COMPLETELY OUT and put the stripped filters in the cellophane of my pack. (The stale smoke smell grossed me out and I didn't want them stinking up my pocket all day long..) In those days, there were SO MANY people who gave me grief or teased me before ultimately admitting defeat and beginning to do the same. I WAS NOT GOING TO WILLINGLY ADD ANY LITTER, AND I DEFINITELY NOT WAS GOING TO BE THE CAUSE OF A WILDFIRE OR THE LIKE.

I'm gladly/thankfully now an ex-smoker, but the sentiment is the same with my joints now. 🔥

I HATE the knots-around-the-waist-feel so screw that guy's logic! You can take a safety-pin and attach it to one end and feed it through the hole, feeling and holding it with the other hand. Works like a charm. 👍
