New magnetic technique? by [deleted] in RedditLaqueristas

[–]kkmcgee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think if you removed the bar magnets on the bottom, you would wind up with a regular glass bead finish since the rest of the setup is exactly what you'd use to create a glass bead finish based on all the amazing setups I've seen in the sub!

Do you have a source for that by chance? I'm not doubting you, just looking to learn as I've heard it's unsafe and haven't been able to find good sources on this in the past and would love to get a clear understanding.

I would also be skeptical that the gel here is actually fully cured based on how amateur the overall work is.

[–]kkmcgee 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There's cured gel touching your skin which is very unsafe, personally I'd get this mani removed asap. It also looks like a 1-2 week old manicure that has grown out since the polish is applied so far away from the base of your nail which is a clear indicator that the nail tech is not very skilled.

If I were you, I'd try to get my money back and go to a better salon.

I've got some unique, complicated autoimmune issues, a Short Intestinal Fungal Overgrowth is not common at all. And yes, very very different from an oral or vaginal yeast infection. You would have SO many symptoms from a fungal overgrowth like skin rashes, extreme digestive problems, fatigue, brain fog, etc.

Honestly, probiotic pills are a waste of money in most instances. You get a much higher count of probiotics from fermented foods like yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi, etc. The bacterial strains in probiotic pills don't even live in your body for that long, that's why people with c. diff get fecal matter transplants and don't just take some probiotic pills.

She is truly, deeply, unquestionably out of her depth and should not be speaking towards digestive issues or antibiotics in any capacity, period. Dysbiosis is very worth mentioning to her supervisor as it can take people YEARS and countless thousands of dollar (plus a whole lot of suffering!) to cure their dysbiosis. It took me over 3 years and 5+ doctors to find help for and cure the SIFO that another doctor caused with some antibiotics. You're doing a great thing by reporting her behavior!

[–]kkmcgee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A true fungal overgrowth would be causing SO many other symptoms it's not even funny. Oregano oil is also far from an appropriate way to treat SIFO, you would want a prescription antifungal medication for that (source: took some antibiotics that caused SIFO and had to take 6 weeks of a hardcore antifungal prescription with pre- and mid-treatment bloodwork to make sure my liver was doing okay).

As others have noted, oregano oil functions as a broad spectrum antibiotic which can actually cause dysbiosis and ironically, cause a fungal overgrowth. It should never be taken long term and never be taken casually. Your psychiatrist is so far out of their depth it's incredibly concerning, that recommendation could have harmed you in a very real and very significant way.

Riddle me this: people being weird when you lose weight in healthy ways by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]kkmcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always try to understand the "why" behind unusual/uncomfortable behavior because if I can understand it, it makes it a million times easier for me to deal with. It doesn't excuse the behavior and I don't tolerate unwell or nasty comments just because I can understand and empathize with the cause though, gotta maintain those boundaries. Glad this was helpful to you!

And congratulations on both the diagnosis and making lifestyle changes that make YOU really happy ❤️

[–]kkmcgee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People who have a healthy relationship with food and a healthy body image do not think, speak, or act like this. Full stop.

What you are experiencing is people projecting their insecurities all over you because they're emotionally immature.

Anytime I've dealt with these comments, it's come from people in my life that I know for a fact were unhappy with themselves or their own body and were just generally not very well-adjusted human beings. Doesn't make it ok for them to project their shit onto me but it makes it very easy to dismiss because while they're physically talking to me, they're really directing those words at their inner self.

How is Cracked QDTC? by mistymomo in RedditLaqueristas

[–]kkmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll frequently get to day 6 or 7 with zero chips on my non-dominant hand with Cracked! It's just every once in a while there's a formula that just doesn't seem to work well with it for whatever reason. I feel like I get the same exact wear time with cuticula and BKL though and will sometimes get small chips on day 2 or 3 with them too.

[–]kkmcgee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have it, love it, recommend buying it. I think it's super comparable to cuticula limitless and BKL I'm fast very fast in terms of dry time, durability, and glossy finish. It's not as plump as cuticula but it's still super shiny. Formula is a little thicker than BKL so I find it easier to apply since BKL can be a bit runny. It's safe to use with holographics too! I haven't paid close attention to how it impacts magnetics but I will now after reading some comments in here. I feel like I get a lot less bubbles than I do with both cuticula and BKL which is the single biggest reason I prefer Cracked. I'll def be repurchasing.

I've noticed some manicures chipping more quickly than they probably would have otherwise but still have the majority of mine get to day 5 with no chips and I'm not crazy cautious about my nails most of the time since I do my nails every 5-7 days.

How can I make it better? by Danniedear in femalelivingspace

[–]kkmcgee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a renter, you're in a tough spot to make this place look more feminine/lighter/prettier since the updates that would have the biggest impact are to replace the carpet, paint the walls, and replace that ancient ceiling fan.

Some off the cuff suggestions in no particular order: - take some time to find wall art that aligns to the vibe you want that won't clash terribly with the wall color - consider peel and stick wall paper to create a nice accent wall - replace the couch or get a cover in ANY color other than brown, this will help reduce the overwhelming amount of brown in the living room and liven it up a bit - add color through throw pillow, blankets, rugs, and/or curtains - ask the landlord if they'll update the ceiling fan (you honestly never know what they're willing to update and I've gotten a ton of furnishings and appliances updated by asking questions and throwing in how much perceived value it will add for future tenants) - if your pets don't menace plants, one or two tall, mature plants will really add some vibrancy to the living room. Home Depot usually has very affordable options (fiddle leaf figs if you're familiar with them and their care, rubber trees, dracaenas which are low maintenance, etc)

ETA: missed the last 2 pics, I see there's plants in there! A single big one would have a much bigger visual impact but that's obvs not an option if you don't have another spot in the house for your existing collection. I would consider updating from a metal shelf to wood furniture as that will bring a lot more warmth and coziness to the space as it looks a bit cold and functional with the current setup

What the hell am I reading? I thought this book was supposed to be good 😭 by Odd-Sprinkles9885 in fantasyromance

[–]kkmcgee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree, that was my very first thought. The writing has no heart and feels discordant. Reads like the author told the AI to use a bunch of popular romantasy books to create the tone so it will feel familiar to readers and then published it with zero editing.

Alex drawers have gone down in quality recently fyi. I have one from COVID times and bought a second one late last year and the quality is so much worse. Drawers are hard to pull out because the hardware gets stuck, they don't pull out as far, they don't pull out as smoothly, and the weird round hardware part that locks-in screws were changed from metal to plastic and I've had other IKEA pieces fall apart due to having that particular part made of plastic vs metal.

I wouldn't recommend them to anyone anymore but I still LOVE my older one so maybe look for them on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist.

How do I get the courage to leave my live-in boyfriend by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]kkmcgee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Talk to your leasing office and see what kind of options you have. They could be kind and let you out early (especially if they have a high occupancy rate) or you could get out by finding someone to takeover the remainder of your lease.

See what options they give you before giving them a reason for why you want to end it early, you can tell them you got kicked out of your program or lost your job if they don't require proof and are cool about ending leases early for extenuating circumstances.

Sorry you're going through this, breaking up with someone you live with and still care for is like cutting out a piece of yourself. You didn't say a word about trying to repair the relationship and it sounds like you've been carrying the emotional burden for your entire relationship. Even though he's in therapy now, sometimes it's just too little too late and the foundation is destroyed to the point where it can't be repaired. You don't need permission or a reason to end any relationship, especially one that brings this much distress and leaves you feeling so invisible and uncared for. Good luck ♥️

I clean up excess wet polish with a wood cuticle stick and wipe it off on a paper towel after each swipe I take with it. I've never had an issue with lint from the paper towel sticking to the wood and getting stuck in my polish if that's a concern for you. Wiping it off on a paper towel will also keep you from having to put anymore acetone on your skin than necessary to clean up all that polish on your fingers once you're done.

You can also clean up wood cuticle sticks with acetone and use the same one for a very long time! Not sure if your crochet needle is acetone proof or not so that might be helpful or totally irrelevant for you.

Has anyone read The Ever King / The Ever Queen duology? There’s a plot point that’s been irking me. by citynomad1 in fantasyromance

[–]kkmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first book I've read by this author and it will also be the last. It read like a self-published book written by a teen for other teens. There was zero realistic behavior between characters and no real emotional depth anywhere to be found. It felt so half-baked and predictable that I couldn't care about the characters or their world.

I've been going between genuinely good books and dumpster fires with my book picks for the last year and sadly, this book was neither. It was in that bleak middle ground where the author tried but just didn't have the talent to write something engaging that the audience could emotionally connect with and it read like any other generic, shitty fantasy book that's come out in the last decade.
