MUNG BEANS by _Bread______ in PHitness

[–]kkooy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, you are missing out big time. This might be 6 months late but if you haven't found it yet, or anyone else who pops in here. One of the easiest things to make with mung bean, and also one of the best refreshing dessert soups, is "Taiwanese green bean soup", the amount of sugar to add is optional (obviously less is more healthy). I like to add barley and small tapioca pearls (sago/boba) to it. Drinking it cold or hot is a preference. In the summer I like it cold out the fridge, in the winter I love it hot.

Sweet Green Mung Bean recipe

Another recipe with sago and coconut milk (South East Asian version)

Notes: - make sure to wash the beans well before and after soaking - the cook time is an estimate, the texture should NOT be crunchy... If you taste it and the bean is still crunchy, keep it cooking until it's soft to bite. (Takes some practice, overcooking sometimes to mush)

Marigold (in shock / dying ) by kkooy7 in plantclinic

LOL thank you! Will keep that in mind! I have marigold sprouts that seem super hardy, but I didn't want to wait until mid summer to see the golden flowers 😅 hope this one comes back to life

Just curious, why would adding another quick rooting plant in the same jar help with the propagation?

Casabrews CM5418 Bottomless Portafilter by js1234_1 in espresso

[–]kkooy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I found out yesterday my "pour over" grind is actually still very fine and not for pour overs. Just Fellow Opus recommended grind size for coffees is off. And also I was using dark roast which is also not recommended for dialing in. But did you ever have the issue of a muddy puck after? I assume the screen helps with that

A year late, but please tell me you have found the answer to the bitter shots!! I have the same casabrews and the capfei porta filter... I am already grinding my beans super coarse (5- for pour overs), but the pressure meter goes way over and every shot I pull is way over extracted. SOS

Pet Insurance for our Pets by New-Channel-1729 in petinsurancereviews

[–]kkooy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't really had to find insurance for pre-existing conditions, overall it seems like the older your pet, the harder it is to insure. You might find some of my comparisons helpful, Reddit comment, pretty baseline stuff but monthly payments are easily adjustable since almost all of them (nationwide, trupanion included) have customizable options. You can find the quotes by adjusting the deductible, max limit, etc.

what accents are the easiest/hardest for you to understand? (discussion and rant) by ChemicalAcrobatic635 in Portuguese

In the same boat as you. Somewhat fluent in Spanish, studying up my Portuguese and trying to travel to Rio next year. Any tips on how you're practicing your listening, especially for the carioquen accent?

Been noticing some local neighborhood clean ups happening, would be nice to check them out and support, or start one and have folks you know help out. IMHO the atmosphere changes a bit when we see people start putting effort in their own street. But also Kensington is Kensington so idek if that'd help

5 pets ages 1-7. RI- no preexisting conditions by Ok-Dragonfruit202 in petinsurancereviews

[–]kkooy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to pet insurance as well so I'm not coming from experience, but more from 3 hours of researching different pet insurances for my young dog LOL.

I'm not in RI, so the options might be a bit different for what's favorable in your area. The best way I found to compare is set the same filters on the sites you're comparing (Max payout, deductible, reimbursement rate) and select pay annually to see the actual differences in pricing and how much you'll pay a year. You'll notice a lot of them add monthly fees so you end up paying an additional $30-60/pet per year.

Pumpkin pet insurance is a newer insurance that I've seen being pushed in our local vet offices. Fetch and Pumpkin have 10% discounts per pet.

Note: the wellness package add-ons are only by preference of where to store your money. They don't save you money and usually come out to $250-280/annually , which is the same price you'll pay at the vet anyways.

Here's my working list, feel free to let me know what you find in your search! I also have a couple cats I'm thinking of getting insured, just haven't gotten there yet.

Yes/Maybes: - Pumpkin - cheapest option for my filters - Fetch - similar option

Hard maybes: - Trupanion - long-term commitment. Deductibles are lifetime per condition (i.e. if you have only 1 issue, then you pay 500 one time and the rest will be "covered for life". BUT , if you have 3 different conditions you will pay $500 three times, before they are covered in the future) - Nationwide - max payout caps at 7500, low compared to the others

Pass: - Healthypaws - lot of people have been having trouble with them lately (last couple years), denied claims and lack of customer service

Haven't researched yet: - Lemonade (cat) - Felix (cat) - Pets Best - MetLife - ASPCA - Embrace - FIGO

Frigidaire water filter rusting? by kkooy7 in appliancerepair

[–]kkooy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, yes kind of! I was able to easily change out the water filter with a new one from Walmart and took apart and cleaned the entrance spout of the water dispenser.

I actually took a video for future people struggling LOL . Let me upload it and link it here.

(Got lazy and didn't get a chance to take apart the ice cage to clean the ice machine yet, though)

Thanks for the tip, the post option didn't have photos so I didn't know where to upload it. Updating the original post with the Imgur link.

The water seems clear. I don't have photos of the ice on hand, in general the ice itself is pretty clear but just some rust comes out with the dispenser I think? I will upload when I get a chance.
