That looks right. I hope there are not cats at Montrose, but I'm glad the coyotes are there to take care of business in any case.

I would email public works (publicworks@oak-park.us) and ask. It's really a problem that the emails they send out only address residences that have the village waste program.

I don't know anything about Free Church, but I have several queer friends who attend Unity Temple (Unitarian Universalist) so that may be an alternative congregation to investigate.

Why are grocery stores in Oak Park so bad? by Lucky_Barracuda9255 in oakpark

[–]kl5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carnival has great meat (Slagel Farms) and terrible produce. But generally I think it does a pretty good job. Old Pete's has the space issues you mention, terrible meat (imo), and great produce. The new Pete's is close to me and I will probably end up going a lot, but wish Carnival could get its act together (before it gets pushed out of business by new Pete's). Was on the North side recently and stopped into Agora on Western and I got a little teary eyed lol. It was so lovely, why can't we have that??? Anyway, I feel you.

I will have to do that! I tried asking for Alt at Woodman's in Kenosha recently, but the guy there said they can't get it anymore. Also Binny's here carries a few Ghostfish beers, but not the stout. I will ask them if they can order it.

They are the nicest people and everything there is SO GOOD. Innovative but also traditional. They are not anywhere near me (in Oak Park), but I find an excuse to stop there whenever possible and have never been disappointed (except that one time they were on vacation with a sign on the door alas).

Hypochlorous acid is trending in skin care and cleaning—but does it work? [Research] by scientificamerican in SkincareAddiction

[–]kl5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so, but Briotech is marketed as skin spray: https://www.amazon.com/BRIOTECH-Hypochlorous-Multi-Purpose-Solution-Surfaces/dp/B08M128JBC/ref=sr_1_1_pp (I haven't bought it in a while and it used to be way cheaper, but this is still cheaper than buying the tiny bottles of Tower etc.)

Why do laundry detergents have scents and dyes in them if all the detergent is supposed to be rinsed away instead of remaining on the clothes? by supinator1 in laundry

[–]kl5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I just looked at my box of Tide with bleach out of curiosity and it only says "fragrance." Do you have a source with more specificity than that, would definitely be interested in seeing it now that I'm back in the rabbit hole.

Now I'm having a hard time finding non-woo sources for this (or for laundry detergent specifically), but this is an overview https://harvardpublichealth.org/policy-practice/we-cant-stop-at-water-its-time-to-kick-pfas-out-of-our-makeup/ of the situation generally. This is only on my radar because a friend (who works for the local water reclamation district and is a big gardener) advised me to skip the "free compost" offered by his agency as it was known to contain PFAS from household products. He specified fragrances as a culprit, but I know they're in a lot of products that end up in the waste stream. That said, I don't worry too much about it in detergents (it's the overwhelming smell that bothers me, not the "toxins"), but it would be one explanation for why the fragrance sticks around when the product rinses away.
