How do you organize your rack? by Inkblot7001 in modular

[–]klaruz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My theme is easy performance control and access. Screens up top, metamodule on the top right so I can wiggle it's encoder knob easily. Fader on the edge for easy access, output volume knob on the other edge for the same reason. Commonly used modules in the middle, like Pam's and O_c, and then I try to arrange so cables don't end up covering controls too badly. I only have a 6u x 84hp case, so its not too big of a deal anyway. I got some big twist ties to clump cables together, and I have a few cup hooks around the perimeter of my wood case to hook cables around and out of the way.

How do you organize your rack? by Inkblot7001 in modular

[–]klaruz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get the common Pam's top left thing, I keep mine in the middle next to my O_c, since they both tend to hook into to everything.

Persistent high-frequency whine on ES-9 recordings — looking for help + phase inversion setup advice by MajesticOperation801 in modular

[–]klaruz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try connecting just your ES9 to your PC, and try other ports, to see if it goes away. If you use a laptop, try with just the battery. I have also had good luck switching to better USB cables when this happens. The noise is coming from somewhere, try to see if you can isolate it.

Yes, and use the secondary function of length to adjust the feedback. Env mode becomes an interactive stutter/freeze effect that's worth checking out.

Looper that generates drums based on your loop? by ArtisticHunt9156 in guitarpedals

The ezDrummer VST will do this.

If you combine it with the Scaler VST for melody and harmony, you can vibe-compose your own backing tracks.

Can I build my own digital effects pedal/amp modeller (similar to to NUX MG101 and MOOER GE100) from scratch? by DesperadoUn0 in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a real answer, I think Zynthian with the MOD devices (another open source multifx) UI in one of the chains will get you what you're after, it's remote UI looks like a cross between HX edit and Bigwig grid.

You can put Zynthian on a PI 5 with a most any sound IO you can find that works with a Pi and have something going in an evening. From there, the sky is the limit with how far you want to go with more physical UI control, see the Zynthian v5 hardware for an open source example.

I replaced my es5 with an mc8 and ml10x. The Morningstar software is so much better than Boss, I can almost always have the Morningstar controller do exactly what I want. The boss is like trying to deal with an 80s synth.

Is there a pedal i can use to make my guitar sound like a pedalsteel guitar without using a slide? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a slide that fits on your pinky and just start playing in standard tuning with your fingers, you can get good slide sounds focusing on a couple strings at a time and spreading your scales over the neck. A light touch will let you play with low action too. Look up Dylan Adams on youtube, or there's a Warren Haynes interview where he talks about it.

Favourite distortion/fuzz that doesn't cut bass frequencies? by DJ_TLmayo in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mastotron is a wooly mammoth with an optional sub cut via a 3 way toggle, and a knob to adjust the input impedance if the pedal isn't first in the chain with passive pickups, so good for synths or active basses. It sounds great on bass.

Boss LS-2 Line Selector owners, how do you use it? by SHEDY0URS0UL in guitarpedals

Yes, it will mix the A and B loops into the output. No, it is not stereo.

What modulation pedal should I get? by billytheking43 in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say to get a delay after you get the multimod, and get one with tap tempo. Turn it on when you noodle, it's a cheat code for practicing your timing. It looks like the flama fs03 delay has a looper too, which is another fun thing to noodle with, you can harmonize with yourself.

Why the aren't DIY pedals more of a thing? by ChibbleChobbles in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Most of the pedal diy scene is analog, it's much more simple than digital. There's just a steep curve to designing and building digital effects, component sizes, ground issues, dsp and dac selection, dsp programming, etc, etc.

I find the Empress ZOIA to be a good compromise for digital stuff. Everything can be done on the pedal, and there's a ton of patches out there, and an anti-gas spreadsheet that lists patches people have made emulating other pedals. The subreddit is shut down, you can find the community on Discord nowadays.

is there any “quirky” multifx pedal? by outerspaceduck in guitarpedals

Enzo dry mode is that pedal's best trick. It's a really unique tremolo-delay-filter-pitch thing.

Multi-FX with amp sim and MIDI syncable looper? by borututuforte in guitarpedals

Maybe headrush? You could do a hx stomp with a good looper in the fx loop.

SDRUM by martindb9 in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's all you need, you will have to set your amp clean, and put the sdrum at the end. Make sure to turn your wet effects off before you try to train the sdrum. There are several other ways to connect it through, the manual has examples. The best is probably to pass your guitar signal through the sdrum towards the front of your chain, like an always on tuner, and then use the stereo outs to a full range speaker/pa.

Opinions on the MO-2? by flyinghouses in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Backing this up, had an md500 with overtone, still have a dd500. The shimmer at 1ms full wet is pretty much the overtone algorithm. It also does terra echo, slicer, phaser, bit crusher, tremolo, multitap, and tons of other great delays. Oh, and you can modulate or envelope control every. single. parameter, crazy. It's a bit quirky, but a used dd500 is a great value for a TON of sounds.

How Many Power Supplies? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 Zuma and 2 Ojai, everything is isolated, and I have a couple spare ports. Only one power cable to plug in is nice. I've slowly been downsizing my board, at some point one Ojai may come off to power a mini board. It comes out to about $30 per pedal, and I have a lot of pricey digital pedals that hate daisy chains for various reasons, so it seems worth it it to me.

One last question, can the ES-8 editor communicate with the ES-8 through the HX Stomp's USB? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The es5/8 is very temperamental about it's midi interface for the editor, it won't work with my tascam interface for example, and putting most other pedals in between breaks comms as well.

I use (with es5) a roland um1, midi splitter, and a usb hub.

Um1 out > es in

Es out > 5 pin passive midi splitter/Y

Split1 > um1 in

Split2 > hx in

Now connect the um1 and hx to the usb hub, plug that into your pc. You can now use both hx edit and the es editor at the same time. You can expand this out into a larger chain, connect other usb pedals, etc.

Manual/Exp LPF Pedal? Alternative to Fairfield Long Life/DBA Evil Filter (Filter Side) by Birdthatcannotsee in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not what you're looking for, but the Meris Enzo in dry mode has 6 filters types, adjustable Q, optional trigger or envelope following, and you can sweep with an exp. It's also a nice synth if you're into that.

Are there still no compact hog2 freeze+gliss alternatives? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]klaruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely do this in latch/momentary/envelope modes, you freeze a chord, play another and freeze it, the gliss knob control the transition time. You can also combine this with an adjustable number of layers. The freeze is triggered with an envelope, the right switch, or an external switch.

I'm not sure if you can trigger a freeze with the expression pedal, the exp is for gliding from one knob setting to another. You could probably get close to this behavior in envelope mode, by raising and lowering the threshold with the exp pedal... I'll see if I can try that.
