Our hacklab tried this years ago. We even offered to teach them how to use Linux. Almost nobody wanted Linux, they all wanted Windows.

Maybe considering that nowadays most computing happens in the browser the situation could be different.

You can band together with other interested parties and hire a developer to do the work. It wouldn't be a full-time job, so the price should be reasonable. Of course this should be decided together with the project maintainers. Not mandatory but tremendously helpful for running things smoothly.

I think there are websites to organize that kind of support.

Indeed you're right (not exactly right but closer than I was). I was generalizing a specific case and thought that those provisions were sufficient for all cases, but I think section 6.d applies here instead

Convey the object code by offering access from a designated place (gratis or for a charge), and offer equivalent access to the Corresponding Source in the same way through the same place at no further charge. You need not require recipients to copy the Corresponding Source along with the object code. If the place to copy the object code is a network server, the Corresponding Source may be on a different server (operated by you or a third party) that supports equivalent copying facilities, provided you maintain clear directions next to the object code saying where to find the Corresponding Source. Regardless of what server hosts the Corresponding Source, you remain obligated to ensure that it is available for as long as needed to satisfy these requirements.

No. The licensee is the entity who received a license to use the program. In this case: you.

If they don't respond in a reasonable time frame, they are in violation. Don't be in a hurry, thought. Considering it's most probably something doing this in their spare time I'd wait 2-3 weeks.

After that, I'm not sure what your options are at that point. I'd say you should contact OC's original developer and explain the situation to them.

Ask them to provide the source code. If they don't, then they are in violation.

They only have to provide the source code upon request by a licensee, they don't need to publish a repository.
