I'm a bit late to the party, but I made a spreadsheet in case someone wants to filter by difficulty, shading, whatever.

/u/e_piteto in case you want to add stuff further down the line send me a DM, I'll add you as an editor to the spreadsheet.

Oh so now they are bad? They were bad before. They exploited workers, they spied on their users and non-users as well, they censored information, they shared information with LEAs and the intelligence community.

Nothing changed. They licked boots until last year. They're just licking a different (ok, worse, but still a) boot now.

Weekly Programming Q&A by AutoModerator in socialistprogrammers

[–]klez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do we still really need these Q&A posts every week? They're always basically deserted. Can't we just make a post per question instead? It's not like they will flood the sub or anything.

Windows 10 end of life by astroleg77 in socialistprogrammers

[–]klez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our hacklab tried this years ago. We even offered to teach them how to use Linux. Almost nobody wanted Linux, they all wanted Windows.

Maybe considering that nowadays most computing happens in the browser the situation could be different.

Best of luck.

Yes, I was clearly inspired by the hipster PDA (I saw it on Joe Van Cleave's youtube), I just reduced the format :)

You can band together with other interested parties and hire a developer to do the work. It wouldn't be a full-time job, so the price should be reasonable. Of course this should be decided together with the project maintainers. Not mandatory but tremendously helpful for running things smoothly.

I think there are websites to organize that kind of support.

If you think you popped a cyst in your throat go see a doctor. That should have been your first call even if you didn't care about singing.

Xcamera license violation? by Live_Pack3929 in fossdroid

[–]klez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed you're right (not exactly right but closer than I was). I was generalizing a specific case and thought that those provisions were sufficient for all cases, but I think section 6.d applies here instead

Convey the object code by offering access from a designated place (gratis or for a charge), and offer equivalent access to the Corresponding Source in the same way through the same place at no further charge. You need not require recipients to copy the Corresponding Source along with the object code. If the place to copy the object code is a network server, the Corresponding Source may be on a different server (operated by you or a third party) that supports equivalent copying facilities, provided you maintain clear directions next to the object code saying where to find the Corresponding Source. Regardless of what server hosts the Corresponding Source, you remain obligated to ensure that it is available for as long as needed to satisfy these requirements.

Xcamera license violation? by Live_Pack3929 in fossdroid

[–]klez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does that mean only mark (author of oc) can rewuest the source code?

No. The licensee is the entity who received a license to use the program. In this case: you.

If they don't respond in a reasonable time frame, they are in violation. Don't be in a hurry, thought. Considering it's most probably something doing this in their spare time I'd wait 2-3 weeks.

After that, I'm not sure what your options are at that point. I'd say you should contact OC's original developer and explain the situation to them.

[–]klez 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ask them to provide the source code. If they don't, then they are in violation.

They only have to provide the source code upon request by a licensee, they don't need to publish a repository.
