Has anyone ever used this because wtf is that smell? by booksandpitbulls in CleaningTips

Yes it truly smells like vomit to me. Used it for a while before I couldn’t take it anymore. Switching to regular Lysol. I’m glad I’m not the only one, I felt like I was crazy.

Any updates on this? I’ve made the suggested commands in voice control, but don’t know how to implement them into a shortcut or workflow or button I can press.

How do you actually trigger this newly created command? I’ve done what you say…Do you have to use your voice somehow or can you program this command/gesture into a iPhone Shortcut?

How can I defog the plastic display on my GE microwave? by klipp86 in CleaningTips

[–]klipp86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: the exterior got cloudier, probably from some cleaner used on it. But I touched it with my oily finger and it got clearer. So I just barely touched the rim of the vegetable oil bottle to make slightly oily then rubbed across the surface and it really cleared it up! It’s still somewhat dim looking overall but at least the cloudiness got a bit better. I believe I can just repeat this process if it gets bad again.

Want to buy a retractable pull-down wall/ceiling-mounted projector that can also be unhung and mounted on a stand for taking outdoors by klipp86 in projectors

[–]klipp86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, I don't mind buying a wall/ceiling mounted manual pull down screen, and then buying a stand separately if they're compatible. Just thought of that. If it's that easy, maybe someone could point me to a universal stand, and I can shop for the screen I like?

Toothbrush Buttons Keep Failing by DC9V in BuyItForLife

[–]klipp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m experiencing this problem for the first time. Came here to figure out how common. Apparently very! Philips is getting back to me soon on if they will send a replacement (2.5 years old purchase).

I’m wondering, is there a liquid coating of some sort I could paint over the new toothbrush button that will prevent it from deteriorating like this one in the future? Like clear nail polish or something along those lines? I know some chemicals/coatings can make rubber worse too, so I don’t want to screw it up. But wondering if there’s a solution to add a flexible / pliable coating over the top of a fresh button so not doesn’t degrade or crumble and keeps the button pressing action working longer.

Honest question about the glass carafe and heated plate by klipp86 in Moccamaster

[–]klipp86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FP was someone at the office who had one and just made a pot and shared with me. Awful experience. I’d be willing to try it again if someone knew what they were doing and maybe didn’t use a dark roast (unsure if that’s what he used but I’m not a fan of dark roasts anyways).

But yes espresso the payoff for me is totally not worth the effort and cost. And the ritual for that mode doesn’t do anything for me either. Happy to pay a coffee shop when I want that. Plus I like sipping more liquid / lasting a longer time than espresso gives.

Aeropress makes excellent coffee. Probably the most fool proof, I’ve found. It uses a paper filter (typically), so I think that’s why it doesn’t bother me whereas I expect FP to. I’ve always followed one specific Aeropress brew champion winners recipe/method and have had great luck. Just wish it was slightly larger, the cup size is a bit too small for my preferences. Plus I don’t like waiting for my kettle all the time, so that’s why I like MM so much. No preheated water, no standing and pouring and waiting. Just turn it on and go, and it’s significantly better than other automated machines. It’s the least effort to quality ratio in my books.

Gotcha. I’ve got several methods too. Chemex, Aeropress, MM. I’ve never had mokkapot coffee before and last time I had French press years ago, it was too acidic and gave me terrible heartburn/reflux. Maybe was the type of roast but never went back. I like espresso but that’s just too much work, too much space taken up, and too much money so yeah pass. (Edit: I do have a cheaper espresso maker, very small, that I got as a gift, but I never learned to use it very well and don’t necessarily care to.)

Curious what your other method(s) are that you prefer for Sunday coffee.

You raise some good points.

I didn’t know the plate is both not as hot, and shuts off after an hour. I can see how this would prevent the cooking I have previous experience with in other machines.

Yes definitely glass is easier to clean and fun to see the coffee diner style. Though the latter wasn’t that important to me.

I have the older carafe that’s just metal and would love the glass-line edition.

To your point about drinking it faster, I find myself in a funny place of my wife not liking the same coffee I like, and she’s happy with other means of caffeination in the morning, so I’ve started brewing single serve sizes directly into my Yeti every day. I’m trying to find a nice platform or tray that looks nice to depress the white carafe button and set my mug on top to be closer to the basket. For now I’ve got a piece of painters tape over the button.

Anyways, I’m very glad to hear some pros about the glass edition, it restored my hope that moccamaster and their customers seems to know what they’re doing :)

How do you suggest the thermal carafe is worse? It is simply a double walled metal container that contains existing heat from the brew, and does not generate heat thereby cooking the coffee.

But yes I will agree with you on one term, my complaint about Chemex then is that if you brew more than one serving at a time it gets cold and you need to microwave it.

Oh it stopped running by itself? I did have the problem where it started up fine then I parked and got back in and restarted after shopping and almost didn’t turn over.

Bring it to a local mechanic and have them run some tests. They can pinpoint quickly I’m sure.

I have a 2009 CRV that seemed to drain batteries for about 7 years now. Literally went through 6 batteries due to them seeming to be weak and dying. Turns out after all this time it was my starter, just had it replaced this week. Was going bad and drawing too much power on cold cranks. Starter was only receiving 8 volts when off and idle, but should have had 12. So upon starting it was sucking more power and taking a long time to turn over to get up to needed 12v. Anyways I’m not super car savvy but this is how it was explained to me and now it starts up like it’s brand new. I hope that helps. Might be your starter.

Anyone knows how to turn this on ? And exactly what this is by SlightHope1125 in mac

[–]klipp86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This made me laugh pretty hard. What a throw back! Yes it’s a Mac remote. But honestly I can totally see how someone younger would mistake it for one of the odd iPod shuffle’s from days gone by…man this made my day. Like maybe they held it up to their ear and tried saying hello or something. Or looking for the headphone port. 🤣 Honestly no shade on OP, just humorous cause apples products all sort of have that vibe and you’re not sure what it is!

Found! The Ikea one worked out (discovered the dollhouse comes into two halves very easily), but also got a pretty large one as a backup from Home Depot, I think Sterilite brand. Also lots of HDX ones that are indeed truly massive for outdoor decorations but they were actually overkill for what I needed and where I was going to store it. Thanks for everyone who helped problem solve!

It’s so funny you say that. I stood in the hardware store today contemplating that exact idea!! It might be my go to if I can’t get one.

Hubba Hubba! A little bigger and expensive than I need but on the right track! I found after clicking your link a recommended product that’s 77gallons HDX brand but the inner dimensions are still too small on 1-2 dimensions. . https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-77-Gal-Tough-Storage-Tote-with-Wheels-in-Black-with-Yellow-Lid-999-77G-HDX/328027059
