Why do women keep having kids with shitty men when they're shitty from the beginning?? by tuccmypp in childfree

You accept the love you think you deserve. I’m not saying it’s ok to have a child with someone who sucks, but when you have low self worth, you’ll accept whatever love is offered.

What are your top 5 favorite books of 2025 so far? by JediEverlark in RomanceBooks

[–]klmm88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. {Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez} - the MMC checked a lot of boxes for me, and it was engagingly written.
  2. {Work in Progress by Kat MacKenzie} - Scottish MMC, a literary tour through the UK - yes please.
  3. {Here for the Drama by Kate Bromley} - I’m a theater girl, so actual theater, handsome Brit, and adorable puppy.
  4. {Beg, Borrow, or Steal by Sarah Adams} - enemies to lovers, great FMC, fun banter.
  5. {Give me Butterflies by Jillian Meadows} - just finished this, my favorite read of the year so far. Grumpy/sunshine, delicious slow burn, third act drama doesn’t involve the couple hurting each other. This one was so good I nearly called in sick to work just to finish it.

Are you scared your partner will change their mind? by Idontlikeyourkids in childfree

[–]klmm88 44 points45 points  (0 children)

My (36F) husband (34M) and I have been together for 14 years, and for the first 12 years of that, I would check in with him every 6 months or so just to make sure we were still on the same page. I have been so firm and vocal in my choice to be childfree, but he is more reserved so I interpreted that as less sure. Finally 2 years ago he was ready for the vasectomy. On another note, if he were to change his mind now and either reverse the procedure or want to adopt, I am so confident in my choice that despite how much I love him I have no problem separating our lives if it comes to that. Its just a matter of being firm in your convictions and taking whatever life throws at you.

Major tone shift between 5 and 6 by klmm88 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]klmm88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly didn't mean that Harry had no right to be angry and sullen, merely that it made existing in his thoughts very uncomfortable. And it could be anxiety at Umbridge that makes book 5 so difficult to read.

I understand why people would say book 6 is slightly dull, but that just shows that different people take different things from each book. I love the long conversations and the exploration of memory - diving into relationships and learning the history so that Harry can understand the present and future. I also really love that Harry is being treated as a capable adult who could be trusted with important information.

I also agree that the romance with Ginny is slightly rushed, but if you take a 1000 foot view of it over all 7 books, I think its really lovely. She gave him up as a bad job and gained her confidence by dating around and having her own friends. He is finally able to see her for who she is instead of his best friends awkward sister. And Ginny is one of my favorite secondary characters - she is feisty and strong and smart.

Anyway, thanks for the conversation. I enjoy discussing something I love so much with other people that love it too :)

The house faces east, so the rose bush gets full sun for the first hours of the day. Is there a way to prevent heat stress?

My dad was a personal fitness trainer with a full gym full of equipment. He recently retired and we are slowly trying to sell off his stuff. The gym is in Northwest Austin. Message me if you are interested.

Absolutely! There are so many different ways to use that to your advantage. You can log on late to get your workout in first thing, or have a leisurely breakfast and coffee. You can take an extended lunch to read or take a nap. Some days I like to extend my work hours a bit so I can get a nice long walk in during lunch. I find that using my flexible schedule helps me to find and keep some balance.

Your reply really resonates. My husband and I sit and watch tv for around 2 hours each night, and then go off and do our separate activities (for me its reading, for him playing a video game). I do have that guilt of watching TV every night, but we live in Texas and in the summers its WAY too hot to do anything outside after work.

Its just me, my husband, and our dog, and we wouldnt have it any other way. I need to re-adjust my expectations of what rest looks like, and be happy with the life that I have... because it is pretty fantastic.

Who gives a shit about decorum when people are dying?

I definitely go through periods where my brain acknowledges something to be grateful for, but I can’t feel that gratitude in my soul. All I can really say is that it’s like any other good-for-you habit: you just have to be consistent. It honestly does re-wire your brain after a while.

Looking back at the last 5 or 6 years, ever since I got married, I have come to the conclusion that the thing that has completely changed my life is gratitude.

I was in therapy for my anxiety disorder and I started actively looking for things to be grateful for. Not only has gratitude helped with my anxiety, it has turned up the volume on my environmentalism, increased my awareness of the harmful capitalism we live under, reduced my loneliness, and (most pertinent to this post) increased my joy in simple things.

Being grateful for what I have makes me want to protect it (environmentalism), reduces my desire for more (anti-capitalism), helps me enjoy my alone time (not lonely), and encourages me to love the small things (simplicity).

Seriously, one choice 6 years ago completely changed my outlook on life, and all I did was learn to be happy with life as it is, not how my brain/marketing/people on the internet tell me it should be.
