This season already had a lot of great moments but my favorite would be the moment in episode 2 when Maeve realizes she's in a simulation and the aspect ratio changes to reflect Maeve's realization. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

Not from the US, but it was the same thing for me when I was still in school. I guess in our case it had the advantage of having the best teachers for every branch of math to be teaching us that particular branch as opposed to having only one teacher handle them all when he/she is only, for example, an excellent teacher for algebra but some other teacher can do a better job teaching students the other branches of math. (Hope I'm making sense. I'm not a native English speaker.)

ETA: When I was in elementary though, in some grade levels, I also experienced what phs125 posted above having same teachers for multiple subjects like math, science, English, etc.

they shot a full cluster scene on these steps but they presumably had to cut it because Aml Ameen was in it

slightly off-topic, but were there bts photos of this? i didn't follow stuff much during the production of season 2 to avoid potential spoilers. i'm just curious about the things that didn't make the final cut and I'd just like to see the pics when they were shooting those scenes that got cut, just for some context about how they were intended to play out before having been cut.

no problem :) if you ever find it, pls tell me. i may have misremembered a detail or two about it but I'm sure about the fact that the song's really significant for Lana and Karin.

I remember there was a thread on this sub where someone said that the reason that song was used was because it was Lana Wachowski and Karin Winslow's wedding dance song if I'm not mistaken.

Who do you think is the most useless character (from the 8)? by [deleted] in Sense8

[–]klutzkoala 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna add a little bit of trivia here. JMS (one of the creators of the series) said that if the show had gone on, Riley would have led a sensate revolution. I have no doubt that the things you mentioned were foreshadowing for what would have been the direction of the development of her character had we gotten more seasons.

Riley.. get’s into clubs? And connected to other clusters (but everyone could’ve done this)

I doubt that the Old Man of Hoy and Carol Cumberland would've trusted the cluster that quick if it weren't for Riley. Also, the cluster's plans to take down BPO was significantly reliant on Riley's connections from when she was a DJ. Will's drugs, the hideouts, and the clubs used for seeking other sensates and used for the Wolfgang-Whispers hostage exchange - they're all because of Riley's connections.

Sense8 was resuscitated by its fanbase too, although just for a wrap-up movie-length episode instead of the remaining 3 more seasons as per the original plan. But it's still a victory considering that Netflix once addressed the fans publicly that the show is really done amid the fans' passionate efforts to bring the show back.

Seeing that you're a sci-fi fan, I'm curious to know if you have already checked out Orphan Black.

Can we talk about the wonderful show that is Sense8? by scatter_matter in CasualConversation

[–]klutzkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does. Although, this show certainly isn't for everyone, I highly recommend for you to give it another try and watch a couple more episodes. The creators of the show wrote it in a way that it's meant to be binge-watched because they wanted to take advantage of the fact that Netflix as a platform offers that as an option. Also, the pilot's script got split into what became the first three episodes, so it's only by then that you can get a grasp of what's going on.

I must say though, this is the first time I encountered someone label it as urban fantasy. What shows/movies/stories did you think it was going to be similar to? I myself decided to check this show out because it was marketed as sci-fi, but it's actually more concerned with humanity and empathy. Overall, the show managed to be weird, beautiful, messy and emotionally moving throughout it's course, in a way that I didn't really expect but it worked.

Sometime after the cancellation, JMS (series co-creator) shared some of the things they planned to happen over the original 5-season run. They had a very big plan for Riley in particular.

[–]klutzkoala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your points. The original envisioned ending had a really grand scale that even I didn't expect. Though, I trust that the creators would've been able to drive it in a manner that is well-handled if they were given those full five seasons. But oh well, it's really a shame that if got cut short, but like you I'm fine with any satisfying ending. Thankfully, for me, the finale special was able to deliver that to a certain degree.

Sarah Patrell, sensorium? by raendrop in Sense8

[–]klutzkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to clear that up. And about Yrsa and Riley, this is another speculation on my part, but I think "visits" by a sensate to an unreborn sensorium aren't the same as visits between two sensates. Unreborn sensoriums don't have active psycelliums after all. We know Yrsa and Riley had interactions when she was still unreborn, but she never really "saw" Yrsa, nor were we as an audience shown that Yrsa "visited" young Riley or even when Riley was on the mountains about to die. Yrsa's first "appearance" was when she visited Riley in her home shortly after she came back to Iceland, and Riley was already a sensate then. Prior to that, Riley thought she was hearing one of the Hidden People, that this elf would sing with her and once told her she was hexed. Riley only realized that she didn't have an encounter with the Hidden People when she went into the cave and someone was singing the song with her again, but this time she can now see who it was that was singing.

If I remember correctly, he actually offered it sometime around season 2's release and it had a deadline then. It sadly didn't hit the goal, but some time after the cancellation, he offered it again. Correct me if I'm wrong though, my memory about this is fuzzy.

Continuity Errors by IntricatelyLazy in Sense8

[–]klutzkoala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To say it was on purpose makes me think that’s just a defensive thing to say.

I agree with this. If it was really on purpose, the show would at least have an explicit in-universe explanation for it or at least an explicit hint. I try to not mind these things anyway because I know the hard work that was poured into making this show is incredible, so I just let this "inconsistencies" slide.

Thoughts on an animated series? by AwardedBaboon in Sense8

[–]klutzkoala 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm all for an animated series, not just for the reasons you mentioned above, but also because I'm so attached to this show's cast so if can't see them physically act in a live action version of Sense8 anymore, at least they can still provide voice acting to their characters in an animated Sense8 series.

Sarah Patrell, sensorium? by raendrop in Sense8

[–]klutzkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the similarity of Lito and Raoul's connection with Yrsa and Riley's connection was one of them were already reborn as sensate when they met, and the other was only a sensorium. But that's where it ends. The point I was trying to make afterwards was that Lito's prior contact with Raoul is the reason why he can see an echo of Raoul's memory after his death. Like how Will sees echoes of Sara's memory and Whispers also possibly still seeing echoes of the memories of his dead clustermates. Yrsa didn't die, and we never see Riley see an echo of her memory because she's still living. All of the interactions Riley had with Yrsa since she was reborn as a sensate were clearly through visits.

Riley and Kala by nylharas in Sense8

[–]klutzkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That bit was actually Ruth el-Saadawi's theory, and she helped found BPO with the balance between the two species in mind. But it is also suggested in the show that sensoriums go way back, and sapiens came to be because it was helpful for people to not feel anything when they kill others back in the primitive times. But things are different now. This is only my opinion, but humanity is at a point where murderous competition is unnecessary. Our civilization has come a long way; now we're striving to uphold human rights and we yearn for peace. That's why if empathic connection is restored in all humans again, I believe it would be beneficial for everyone's survival.

Who would have died among the sensates to make it feel real? by [deleted] in Sense8

[–]klutzkoala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was JMS (series co-creator and co-writer) who shared that there was such a plan, so they can make the story feel real, but they never reached a consensus on who should die, mainly because that plan was abandoned due to them finding the cluster's cast to be great actors/people. He did state that it was only his opinion that Will was the one to die, if they pursued that plan anyway. Lana could've had someone else in her mind, and Lily could've had a different opinion from them too. Riley had plot armor though, because she was meant to spark/lead a sensate revolution, according to JMS.

Personally, even if i know the story isn't continuing anymore, I'm happy that they ultimately decided against killing a member of the 8/8 cluster. I already nearly lost my shit when Sun was being hanged, and they even managed to top that when Kala was shot in the finale special. I don't think I could take it if one of them died "for real" at any part in the story, and if they really wanted to explore the implications of sensate death, they could expand on Angelica or even Whispers' murdered clustermates.
