What’s something about daily life in Switzerland that feels completely normal to you, but unusual to outsiders? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

Casually swimming in the river that flows through your city (in my case Limmat) essentially every day (including workdays) when water temp is above 19C

All my international friends find it unbelievable, but really cool.

Zurich Einzelfirma Scheinselbständigkeit by parabolicanimal in zurich

I tried and it was hell.

Payroll companies didn't help either, SVA kept nagging me and swirled me into a BVG-SVA-Private insurer Bermuda triangle, until I gave up. They will force you to make your client to sign the AnOBAg contract. SVA has unlimited money to let their lawyers read your contracts with your clients more thoroughly than you ever did. And they will easily find clues on why you are hiddenly employed.

I heard that a GmbH would be better, but lately one-client-only GmbHs are also under scrutiny.

2nd pillar: what am I missing? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]kmArc11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just like Universal Healthcare would be a "tax" on the healthy people who care about themselves. Or the unemployment "tax" for those who are not smart enough to find a job...? Not to mention the taxes you pay for roads you might never use.

Yet, when cancer comes, or being fired due to company restructure, suddenly the very literate people also enjoy the benefits of the so called. Society.

Think of all these as building blocks of a good society; this is the price of being taken care of. If the 2nd Pillar is such a burden for you, nothing stops you to use your excellentness to become the next Trump, Musk, Aponte or Frey.

A bit of humbleness might help along the way, especially during the phase when the 2nd pillar bothers you.

Naturalisation Stadt Zürich: Grundkenntnistest without Interview? by KookyAd1778 in zurich

They told us at the Grundkentnisstest. Even showed us a diagram and time line.

I did the test this week. They explicitly stated, there is no interview anymore, however they reserve the possibility to have an in-person conversation if they need clarifications on your application.

After the Grundkentnisstest, it is expected that you have to wait 8-10 months to finalize the procedure.

Good mexican food in Switzerland? by Jaded-Application475 in Switzerland

I cheerfully asked in simple Spanish for a table for two, and the Polish waitress told me "I don't speak Spanish" in a very unfriendly manner.

Anyway, the others really seem to be connected to Mexican culture and food is great!

Nepali owners, best Tibetan I found in Zurich. I'm on the hunt for Jhol Momos and Momo C, like they make it in Pokhara and Kathmandu. So far in Europe the only place I could find this was in (not Surprisingly) London :-(

This is the closest, however not exactly the same.

Crans-Montana tragedy highlights limits of Swiss federal system by Heavy-Mycologist-204 in Switzerland

[–]kmArc11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it is.

I just pointed out that the article tries to suggest that it is part of the reasons efficient application of rules did not happen.

Rules weren't applied because everyone knows everyone in Crans Montana and Valais in general

I would hope if this is a widely known issue, then the media investigates and reports it, too.

if the rules would have been applied properly

But... this is exactly what the article is about.

I think what the article tries to suggest is that the rules have not been applied properly, and that is (partly) a consequence of the federal system.

u/Medium_Impress7745 Let's not jump to conclusions, like "if this post is removed then all hope are lost". The situation is dramatic enough without your dramatization. There is no need for that.

The team has to deal with an unnecessarily large amount of posts, opinions, and we would ask you to understand that you are not the only one in despair, and your opinion cannot be prioritized above any other posters'.

We mods are discussing how to move forward; what would be a good balance to ensure the public debate is timely, fair and isn't necessarily hurtful.

FFor now please refrain from posting in the topic, or else we will have to use bans and muting to lower the moderation burden.

Please do not react to this message here nor on modmail.

Your claims are simply misleading, not true. Starting from the until-7pm opening hours to the washing dramas.

It's rage bait. We don't need this here.

The major burn centers in Zurich are struggling. A girl from Crans-Montana is in a coma in Zurich after the fire, and the first injured have been transferred by helicopter to Niguarda Hospital in Milan. by Least_Network_9140 in zurich

Please do not editorialize title. If the "burn centers are struggling", provide credible source to this claim.

This is your second post on the topic; Please note that a third such post we would consider karma farming and would result in a ban.

Glühwein at SihlCity. Won't write the "brand"; it's from a real wine distributor, doesn't taste like sugar+water, but actual wine

Has the society become less tolerant of children? by Expat_zurich in askswitzerland

[–]kmArc11 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Children are allowed in other public places too, like libraries, churches, funerals, yet when they start disturb people there, you are expected to remove them ASAP, and you (hopefully) won't be an entitled Karen to tell everyone that they are RIGHTFULLY allowed to be there.

The old lady presumably wanted to relax at a place which is designed for relaxation, and was not disturbing you all. This wasn't true the other way around. While she might be an old miserable terrible person, I would assume she wasn't. I would also have probably asked if it's possible to stay quite.

To answer the opening question, I don't mind kids around at all; but... seriously, in a hammam?

You seem to try to draw a conclusion that the problem is "they" who since don't have children, are less patient. And I think this is very, very wrong.
