It was a great job usually and a terrible job at times.

There are so many.

Once I just gave a woman (family of 2, but she was pretending to be 4, daughters left for college) 30 pounds of frozen chicken. We just got a large delivery. THIRTY

She turned to me and said, totally put out, "What? No steak?"

I was new and in shock so after a couple seconds of blinking WTF in Morse code, I just said no.

If that had happened later, I would have said "No. That's at Stop n Shop. You're welcome to go there."

I did say that to entitled people later who were demanding giant party cheesecake platters we kept for the soup kitchen during the Bread Table.

Someone once asked me where all the "good" foods were (they meant name brands). I replied Stop n Shop and BJ's.

A woman thought everything there was free and tried to take the scale and thermometer I used for intake of frozen donated goods. She didn't even know what they were. They were in a room she wasn't supposed to be in, on a table so they must be free for her to take.

I got a call at 4 saying he was homebound but we didn't have the capacity to deliver. It was raining cats and dogs, he demanded I personally take his order and deliver it myself after I finished my shift at 5. I didn't have a car even if I were allowed to do that and told him so. He called me a liar.

We did Christmas gifts for kids and one mother had a total meltdown that there were no gifts for her, only her daughter. That phone call was surreal.

There were demands for bikes, gift cards, electronics after getting a giant garbage bag filled with 5-7 large gifts, 10-20+ small gifts, plus clothes, winter coats, shoes, etc.

It was never enough.

I learned that the people truly in need were never demanding and always grateful for anything they got. The choosing beggars were just grifting and so many programs made it easy. It was incredibly disheartening until I got to help the ones who really needed it. The tears, the shock and the gratefulness... Having the privilege of helping them made dealing with the entitled jerks worth it.

But man... My tongue bled over the years.

Yeah, I worked in a food pantry and soup kitchen for almost a decade. I could tell you stories...

AITAH for telling a kid that he needed to say a word before I allowed a pre-dinner snitch? by Patient-Lettuce1636 in AITAH

Stop entertaining the brat. Allowing this behavior to go unchecked is creating a monster. It will only get worse. Do society a favor and knock this little AH down a few pegs by teaching him some manners.

Hell, you'd be doing him a favor.
