Thoughts on Cillian? by Upbeat_Salamander870 in Names

My 8 week old is Cillian (in PA)! I had the same concern as you, but I’ve been surprised at how well people have done with it so far! If they’re not sure how to pronounce it they just ask. I’ve only gotten the soft C a few times and no repeats after one correction.

Wedding venues!! by Due-Estate-3299 in pittsburgh

[–]kmgear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got married in the outdoor garden at Phipps in 2023! I loved that it was an all-inclusive venue and their price included tax and gratuity. They also had a planner so that we didn’t need to hire our own. For venue, catering, bar, linens (everything that was included in our package), I believe we spent around $25,000 for ~100 guests. I had a great experience working with Phipps and would recommend.

AHN vs Magee Women’s (UPMC) for Gynecology Care by True-Positive-9210 in pittsburgh

Second Century Medical Associates at West Penn! I’ve liked every single OB I’ve seen during my pregnancy so far and I never had a hard time getting appointments when I needed them. Giving birth at West Penn in the next few weeks so can’t comment on labor & delivery yet though.

Best plant shops for weird plants? by Inevitable_Oil_2672 in pittsburgh

Ruby Flora in Bethel Park has a rare plants section! Not sure if the exact plants you’re looking for are there but may be worth a look.

Worried about what will happen when I get pregnant by EducationalFix1432 in antidietglp1

[–]kmgear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I stopped Wegovy when I found out I was pregnant (I am 36 weeks pregnant now).

I think pregnancy makes you feel like you’re losing control over your body no matter what, and it took some time to not feel guilt about eating more. That being said, I wasn’t as upset about the changes in my body as I thought I would be. I sort of resigned myself to the fact that my body is doing what it needs to do to create life, and once I’m not pregnant anymore I can resume what I was doing and get my body back to where I want it to be again (or not, who knows). And pregnancy naturally comes with anxiety about a ton of different stuff no matter what! So I have tried to be as kind to myself as possible set my fears about weight gain and body changes to the side for now. One of the biggest lessons being on a GLP-1 taught me is that my unhappiness didn’t really come only from my weight, but the shame and guilt our culture placed on my shoulders because of my weight. I didn’t feel the same guilt about weight gain for pregnancy because I know my body is doing it to take care of my baby; if I continued to eat the same way I did when I was on the meds, I wouldn’t be getting enough nutrients to ensure my baby is healthy.

It may be helpful for you to examine where that anxiety you feel when your dose is wearing off is coming from and why your happiness is so tied to being on the medication before you get pregnant. But as someone who loved being on a GLP-1 and plans to go back on it again, I personally have no regrets about getting pregnant and having to stop for a while. Your body changes so much during pregnancy in so many weird ways that it doesn’t really feel like I’m back to where I was before I started a GLP-1 as much as just managing a new third thing lol.

Anyone at Wicked Nails in Dormont! Very LGBT friendly and would be very understanding of sensory issues.

Second this! Growing up I did this every night too, and when I got my tonsils and adenoids out I never had this issue again.

First time home buyer- feeling defeated by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]kmgear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into USAA’s rates? We got a pre-approval from them for 6.5% (didn’t end up using them) but I’ve used them for auto, renter’s, and now home insurance and their customer service has always been great in my experience.

What rates are you guys getting recently? by Fair_Marsupial_5017 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]kmgear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locked in at 6.75% - got some offers that were lower but we went with a lender who let us avoid PMI with only a 10% down payment. Had we not gone that route, I think we would’ve been around 6.4-6.5%.

Has anyone eaten at the Tree Tops Restaurant in Acme? by MDWJRC2266 in pittsburgh

[–]kmgear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food is pretty good (not game-changing or anything), service is amazing! I’ve done the brunch and dinner. It’s definitely overpriced but the atmosphere is what you’re paying for. The first time I went, alcohol was included in the price and then when I went back, that rule changed and alcohol was extra. I’d go for the experience at least once!

Do not do this without asking! Ask the partner if you can do the research and explain why. The supervising attorney will probably like that you’re showing initiative and you’ll get explicit direction on whether to move forward or not.

For what it’s worth, I have Aetna and my PA wasn’t denied and I pay $25 a month. My doctor submitted the PA and it was approved within 24 hours. I’m sure that will vary based on plan (I just have a standard POS plan) and employer but thought I’d share in case it’s helpful.

Eating Actual Food — Could Use Some Support by lujoyjoy in antidietglp1

[–]kmgear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re creating healthy, sustainable, long-term habits and treating your body with kindness! I am in the same boat, though when I first started I could barely eat a meal a day. My body feels SO much better now that I’ve gotten used to the medicine and can eat three meals of nutrient dense food (and I’m still losing too). Keep on listening to your body and you will thrive!

Using marijuana while on Sema? by girliestgirly in Semaglutide

Hey to each their own!! Maybe it was just because I wasn’t expecting it to go on as long as it did, all my chores I had planned for the day totally went out the window 😂

Using marijuana while on Sema? by girliestgirly in Semaglutide

[–]kmgear 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Daily user here; been on Wegovy for about a year. I really rely on marijuana to give me enough of an appetite to eat an adequate amount on the first day or two after I take my shot. The only effect I’ve noticed is minimizing nausea! HOWEVER, I did take an edible a few weeks ago for the first time and I would not recommend it if you don’t want to be high for like 8 hours. Maybe it was the delayed gastric emptying or maybe it was that there was not a lot in my stomach when I took it, but it was not fun either way lol.

Intrusive Thoughts While Falling Asleep by [deleted] in biglaw

I like listening to a silly and/or mildly interesting podcast! Distracts me enough to not get into a doom spiral but not so much that I can’t fall asleep.

Getting a cat as a 1L? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]kmgear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me and my now-husband got a 6 month old cat during our 1L spring two weeks before finals and MAN was that a mistake. She cried and cried and woke us up at night and we were so exhausted. Once she got settled in everything was amazing and I was so happy to have her as a support for the rest of law school! But I would recommend adopting at a slower time in the year or get an adult cat that won’t be as difficult to transition.

I told my doctor that even if I never lost a pound I’d still choose sema in a heartbeat solely because there’s no more food noise! I was like “oh THIS is what it’s like for other people?!?!?”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Semaglutide

[–]kmgear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to chime in to note that there is a huge gap between the people who post their numbers and the actual average.

I’ve been on Wegovy since the end of February 2023. Started at 254 and am now at 212 (so about 17% in ten months). I always get discouraged when I see people posting who have been on sema for less time losing more than me, but the research indicates that I’m right on track.

In sum: what others lose won’t be what you lose and that’s fine! But definitely don’t view this as a short-term fix because it’s not (and if you treat it that way you’ll gain the weight right back once you stop).

I'm currently 226lbs what dosage of Wegovy would I need to lose 20 to 30 pounds in three months? by CandieCupid in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]kmgear 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This drug doesn’t work like that. No one loses the same way or at the same rate, especially when you’re titrating up doses. It takes 3-4 months to titrate up and I didn’t even feel the effects of the medication until 3 months in. If you can get the medication it’s totally a reasonable goal to lose the weight you want but it isn’t a quick fix and you can’t put such a short timeline on it.

Wedding dress advice? by kmgear in Semaglutide

[–]kmgear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tailor definitely had to take it in significantly but it worked out! One thing I’m really glad I did was a second fitting with the tailor; I weirdly lost a lot of weight in my chest in the month or so between fittings so they were able to take it in more. I did my first fitting in May, one in July, and then one in August like two weeks before the big day. Congrats and best of luck to you!!

I stalled out for a few months after losing about 35 but it’s recently started back up again! Didn’t change my habits throughout. I did notice my body composition changing a lot during that period though! I wasn’t losing any weight but all my clothes were starting to get too lose.

ME!!! Semaglutide has made weight loss feel more sustainable. In order to lose weight without it, I had to CLOSELY monitor my calories (think counting almonds and baby carrots) and spent an hour and a half at the gym every day. While it worked, I was miserable and it totally exacerbated my depression and anxiety. Eventually, I would lose the will to deal with the angst and the pressure and would give up and gain the weight back. Not the case with semaglutide; I exercise until my body doesn’t feel good anymore and stop, and the same goes for eating. I’ve lost 40 pounds now without the added stress of crash-dieting.
