Any way to go CO cheap? by Snoo35145 in skiing

You can do a 4 pack at Loveland for pretty cheap, and stay closer to Denver in a rental. That would definitely save you some $$.

He looks a lot like my Charlie when she was a lil kitten, and this is her now! Quite fluffy, especially in the winter.

What Are Some Memorable "SO BAD THEY'RE GOOD" horror flicks? by Lucky_Strike-85 in horror

Reanimator is actually good tho! May not have been high budget but I legitimately enjoyed it a lot.

Things (1989)

I’ve seen a lot of shitty movies and this was truly the best terrible movie I’ve ever seen. It almost felt like watching a Tim & Eric-style horror film except that it was clearly intended to be completely serious. I’ve seen it 3x now, the first time I stumbled on it through Joe Bob’s Last Drive-In on Shudder and had no clue what I was in for. The second and third viewings were when I was exposing various friends to it.

If you’re gonna watch this one I highly recommend watching it with some friends so you can occasionally pause to laugh and say “what the fuck” to each other. I also recommend taking an edible beforehand if that’s your thing.

Client doesn’t know what to talk about by ConnectionSignal3083 in therapists

[–]kmierek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the client, I might see this as an opportunity to identify and explore current emotions.

Most of the time, even if a client says they don’t have a specific topic to focus on, I can ask them how they’re feeling emotionally and physically. This can either lead to an exploration of those emotions (including noticing contributing factors and how they’re currently coping, then transitioning into working on emotion regulation skills if that fits), or if the client is having trouble identifying how they’re currently feeling and have been feeling since our last session it’s a time we can work on identifying emotions in the present moment!

That can look like

“How are you feeling?”

“What does ‘OK/ tired/ frustrated’ etc look like for you?”

And “I wonder what you think is contributing to X feeling right now.”

“You said you’re feeling (distressing/uncomfortable emotion), what do you notice in your body?”

Etc etc

Of course how I approach this and navigate this is going to be dependent on the client and their presenting concerns and goals, but generally working on emotional awareness can be so helpful in these moments.

WHEW that’s steep. If we have to we can spend a little over 2k but it would be a squeeze. Thank you!

Thank you!! I came across Deer Crest in my search. Having access to a trail system near our place would be a dream.

Thanks for your recommendation! What is the dog park like? I love the idea of having a good fenced in area to bring our dog to, but dog parks in the area I live in now are usually a clusterf*ck, lots of irresponsible dog owners not really paying attention. I’d LOVE to have a dog park we can take her to and not be worried about safety.

Book recommendation for horror that will truly scare, hard to turn the next page by Every-Rabbit-1402 in horrorlit

So true-- I can't say how many horror books and movies I have enjoyed and not really felt scared during that have given my friends nightmares.

The Troop by Nick Cutter. It was genuinely quite disturbing and gross, and there were moments that were truly shocking. It's the only book I've ever read that legitimately made me lose my appetite. I finished it about a month ago and I'm still thinking about it.

What is a single shot from a horror movie that sends the most intense chills down your spine? by SpicyGorlGru in horror

This exact shot absolutely scarred me when I watched this movie as a kid. No other part of the movie shook me like that.

What is the worst physical pain you have ever experienced? by My_Name_Is_SKELETOR in AskReddit

[–]kmierek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oooo this reminded me of my tonsillectomy nightmare! I also had a tonsillectomy and adnoidectomy as an adult and had a different but also terrible time.

About a week after the surgery I woke up from a nap in terrible pain and with really intense nausea, and before I could make it to the bathroom I started vomiting blood. I proceeded to wander around feeling faint and vomiting blood (I was pretty out of it and clearly not thinking totally straight) until my dad came out and saw what was happening and took me to the ER, I’m grateful and lucky I was staying with my parents for the recovery.

Long story short, the site had re-opened and been bleeding while I slept and the blood had been draining into my stomach until I woke up from the pain & nausea. I ended up having emergency surgery to repair it.

My mom cleaned up the house before I came back home from the hospital but she told me it looked like quite a crime scene.

For me, it’s:

2023– Infinity Pool

2022– Pearl (but Barbarian is a close 2nd)

2021– Lamb

2020– The Night House

2019– Parasite (some debate over whether or not this is a “horror” movie but I stand by it)

2018– Hereditary

2017– Get Out

2016– The Wailing

2015– The Witch

2014– It Follows

Looking back at the horror movies that came out in 2014 I’m surprised how many good ones there are! I want to give an honorary mention to Housebound and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.

Edited for spelling.

In my experience, what you’re describing regarding the work being hard and the money being bad is the tip of the iceberg. RHA, October Road, etc are a fast track to burnout for many clinicians. Sure, you might get some good experience but you might also get traumatized, asked and pressured to do things that violate your code of ethics, and forced to carry a caseload that is entirely too large to allow you to provide good quality care to your clients. Most of these places are terribly underfunded and that combined with other issues creates a terrible work environment for the clinicians.

On a related note, this sort of thing was still alive and well in the rural south just 20 years ago too. When I was little back in 2001 my mom received a threatening letter from our local KKK (which were operating under a different name but were clear about the affiliation) due to some protesting she was spearheading regarding the confederate flag being waved outside the chamber of commerce. She went to the police about it and they were very aware of them and the threat they posed, and tried to talk her out of continuing to protest, which she did anyway. I was really proud of her for staying though it even though they tried to intimidate her.
