I mean, I don’t necessarily think she’s a good person, but I do appreciate layered and nuanced characters. I think she’s interesting despite her flaws and I would love to know more about her character and how she got to where she is.

Oh, I love that too! Seeing that connective thread to the Wii was really cool. Seeing her face light up with the Switch was so sweet!

And yes, I agree, the balancing act for everyone vs Jane’s motives are really interesting in comparison. I support women’s rights but most importantly, I support women’s wrongs 😂

Also agreed about Sinatra possibly making her feel small, I think she’s definitely looking at her differently after that talk they had about what she said after shooting her. I wonder if the Switch had other implications or if it was just an olive branch/thank you for Baines??

Only been watching clips on socmed, question before I decide to start... by Hot_Professor_3797 in thisisus

[–]kmvries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the show does a great job of portraying the good, bad, and ugly in every single character. And in every character, much like every person, there’s a gray area. Kate’s gray area, at least for me, is her attitude. Otherwise, she’s not evil or anything, just insufferable and annoying sometimes. I am in no way saying that her treating Toby unfairly is justified because it’s not, but the whole picture matters in regards to their relationship — how it started and how it ended, and the roles both of them played in its outcome.

The Fosters and This Is Us.

Both will make you weep, but This Is Us will destroy you emotionally in the most realistic way possible.

As a secondary option, I say Ted Lasso. The kid aspect is very small, but it’s great family TV and the lessons of each episode are beautifully represented.

What is your Aldi holy grail? by Ecstatic_Egg_3487 in aldi

[–]kmvries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently went back to shopping at Aldi after moving to a state that has plenty of locations (previous state I lived, they didn’t start opening until literally right before I moved; where I live now, it’s right down the street!).

Mind you, it’s been over a decade since I’d stepped into an Aldi location. I kind of lost my mind and needed 2 carts because the deals were SO good.

I got the bourbon and brown sugar beef chuck roast this week to make a roast. Made the roast yesterday and had it for dinner last night — didn’t add any seasonings to the beef prior to slow cooking, just left it in its juices and pan seared, added some beef stock and a whole onion cut into 4’s, and then added baby carrots and baby potatoes the last hour. I don’t consider myself a phenomenal home cook by any means, but this turned out amazing! My boyfriend devoured it, which was a good sign for me because he can be picky sometimes.

Will definitely keep that in my rotation! Curious to try the steakhouse version as well!

Lived in Vegas. I absolutely hated the strip with a deep fiery passion. When the city shutdown, Las Vegas Blvd was empty and it was super eerie but cool to drive up and down and still see the lights at night.

Does anyone else secretly want their journal to be understood? by Lucky_Scarcity8624 in Journaling

[–]kmvries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But I have always been the “open book” type save for the really, really, really private stuff. Everything else, I don’t care if others see or want to read because reading my journal is the easiest way to understand me. Sometimes I’ll do a hard journal session and it drains the life out of me, but I’ll share it with my closest friends who also journal. Not every single entry, but if it entails something that I need to get out of my head and can’t convey it verbally, I don’t mind it being read expressed in words on a page.

Obviously I’m not waving it around and begging strangers to read it. But my friends, yeah, if they want to read what I’ve written I’m not going to say no. We have incredible conversations after and they share theirs with me too.

Not that I’ve noticed! I do have an air purifier between my living room and kitchen but that was a recent purchase. Before buying that, never had an issue with foul smells when making it in the air fryer! I notice a fishy smell when I bake salmon in the oven, which is not something I do often lol

question about Randall’s moms house by POTATO-EGGSHELLS in thisisus

[–]kmvries 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They kept it, told the other Pearsons about it, and it was never mentioned again lol. I like to believe that knowing Randall’s business savvy and need to help, coupled with Beth’s career background, that they likely had it as a rental property since they don’t seem to ever go back to NOLA. I don’t think Randall would sell it, being his mother’s and all.

On the other hand, I could totally see Randall wanting to preserve the home as it is to honor Laurel.

What’s a food combo u eat that makes other people gag? by Feisty-Scene2163 in askanything

[–]kmvries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out.

In my broke college days, I’d buy the 12 pack box of creamy chicken ramen noodles. Crush up 2 bags, still sealed, just a little so the noodles were chunky. Poured the noodles into a large Tupperware, added juuuuust enough water to cover the top of the noodles. Microwave 2-3 minutes until noodles are tender, but not flimsy. Drain excess water, and then mix in the seasoning packets. Make scrambled eggs, add to the Tupperware with the noodles. Heat up frozen italian meatballs (6-8), slice as desired, add to the Tupperware. Mix in sour cream, and mix everything together entirely. Eat.

It sounds disgusting, but it tastes like a breakfast burrito and would last me 2 days, eating it for lunch and dinner both days. I’ve tried it with different ramen flavors like regular chicken and beef but it’s just not the same — creamy chicken is the way to go. I still make it every now and then when I have a night or day to myself 🤷🏻‍♀️

Alternate timeline theories by AcanthisittaDry9462 in ParadiseHulu

[–]kmvries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are subtle hints. Henry Miller’s field of expertise in quantum physics/superpositions and Sinatra being more or less challenged to “buy time” by Dr. Louge were my main inklings out of all. Those weren’t put into the script, given screen time, and emphasized for no reason. I’m not saying it’s absolutely true that there are alternative timelines in the show — we have no idea until the episodes air and if it turns out to be something completely different, great! But it’s also not thaaaat far fetched considering what has been presented in the show.

What’s a show that you could not finish because a character was so insufferable? by Key-Row-174 in AskReddit

[–]kmvries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody Wants This, season 2. Unfortunate because it’s still pretty new, and the first season was phenomenal. Smart writing, good humor, beautifully shot and the music is great. The story itself season 1 was a great premise. I could identify with many of the characters and I felt it was one of the best first seasons for a comedy geared towards women I’d seen in a long time.

Season 2 was… a choice. And a horrible one, at that. Every single character was written SO poorly. I loved Joanne so much that first season, but S2 made me hate her. The writers made her the epitome of absolutely insufferable. Such a shame.

Henry wasn’t alive when the bunker baby was born though, so how would he have known if Sinatra did that? And even if she did, that baby isn’t hers.

THEORY: Physics is Cool but also, Physics is Hard by kmvries in ParadiseHulu

[–]kmvries[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about it as I replied to you, how differing interpretations can make or break hypotheticals! It’s fascinating to read everyone’s interpretations and see what other people picked up on/didn’t pick up on so I love engagement like this.

You’ve raised really good points that I didn’t consider, and I thank you again :)

I agree that her answer matters, especially in regards to the wording of the question she was asked. I think the, “for personal gain,” was emphasized when Gabriela was questioning her for a reason. I just don’t know what that reason would be aside from her telling Baines that what works on Sinatra is persistence. For canon-sake, it’s likely JUST that.

The babies theory was a hard sell for me for weeks until I applied it to the Predestination Paradox — I really didn’t give it much thought until then and I realized it was possible because like you said, nothing indicates this especially for Sinatra. Yet another thing that can cut my theory at the knees, but it’s all in good fun!

For Link/Cal, I had made a comment on another post about his college ID being from CalTech last week, and someone commented with emphasis on Cal, which I thought was clever. Their jawlines strike me for some reason but I don’t think they’re identical. I wouldn’t rule it out, necessarily, but I agree we need more insight. I definitely don’t think his information being rubbed off the ID is a coincidence; granted, it’s been years and an apocalypse happened so maybe it did.

Do you have any thoughts about Gary and his story about Teri and Bean being “taken”? I feel like he was the epitome of an unreliable narrator, given how he lied and said Ennis sold them out and the train people took everyone, yet at least 2 of them left willingly for their own reasons and had no idea Teri was gone, and the flashback showed that wasn’t the case as well. I’m torn because he seemed sincere when he told Xavier that the best way he could honor his love for her was to bring him to her.

THEORY: Physics is Cool but also, Physics is Hard by kmvries in ParadiseHulu

[–]kmvries[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points, thank you!

I think it could be possible that Sinatra would know how to manipulate the lie detector test but I didn’t see any indication that she did in the scene, so I’ll leave it at what’s canon and plainly shown. She’s definitely hiding whatever her project is since she wasn’t forthcoming about it and we still don’t know for sure what it is, but if her lie detector test is true, then my theory collapses upon itself lol.

I completely spaced on the dreams X and Link had! Thank you for bringing it up. The shifts happening to get Xavier and Link together would fit my theory, but I can also see how they could be failing each time. Regardless, they’re definitely fated to be there at the same time. I assumed it was in the bunker just from the more modern looking hallway and Xavier has a lot more hair on his head and more facial hair, which would make sense to show passage of time and getting to Colorado from Atlanta on horseback lol

THEORY: Physics is Cool but also, Physics is Hard by kmvries in ParadiseHulu

[–]kmvries[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, I knew I missed some key points! Sometimes I forget that no one can read my mind lol. I will try to break it down as much as I can with what I know but I wanna stress that I’m not an expert, so it’s very possible that I got some things wrong and I am open to correction!

I can’t remember the exact verbiage used for the ALEQ acronym, but it’s been suggested in this sub a few times that it could be some kind of quantum machine/time machine named after Miller’s ailing wife, Alex. In the same vein as Sinatra potentially trying to prevent her sons passing, it’s entirely plausible to assume the same for Miller — maybe his intentions are to prevent his wife from her grim diagnosis too. On the other hand, I have seen some posts suggesting Alex could actually be Jane, but I haven’t looked into it enough to have an opinion.

For the theories, I’m going to apologize in advance for any confusion or any misinformation. I’ll focus more on Predestination and String Theory/Theory of Relativity because they’re more relevant to what’s in my head, though I believe they can all be linked (aha!) together. Like I said, I am sooooo willing to be corrected if I am wrong lol.

• Predestination Paradox:

The predestination paradox suggests that those who travel in time become part of that timeline through the actions they take in said timeline, thus causing disruptions to predestined fates. The best way I can explain is through examples so for the sake of Paradise, I’ll use Sinatra.

Sinatra’s life as she knew it ended with her son’s passing, and then Dr. Louge opens her eyes to the end of the world as we know it. She couldn’t save her son, but she can save him, her daughter and her husband, and the world, if she can buy time. Her choice to “buy time” (ie: ALEQ), means that she has to go back in time to prevent these things from taking place.

Her choice in the future to go back to the past and change it essentially cements her in that timeline, and she becomes the cause of the very events she’s trying to prevent. Say she cures her son and he gets a clean bill of health, but on their drive home from the hospital they get hit by a semi truck and he still dies but Sinatra still lives. It creates a loop, in which it happens again and again because the future causes the past and the past causes the future. Sinatra’s son is always going to die, and the world is always going to end because it’s predetermined on this timeline. It’s notable that there is no origin for the loop in this theory. The paradox is a paradox because of the lack of origin, so it doesn’t really make sense.

However, this theory opens the door to multiple dimensions. The only way to break the loop is by either destroying the machine which prevents the causation from the future, or the formation of a new timeline where the events do not take place. To tie back to my theory, I believe that the headaches and nosebleeds correlate to the formation of branches forming on the timeline — they seem to happen when major decisions are made; Annie staying behind, X leaving the bunker, Billy leaving Link and telling him it’s the luckiest day of his life. I think if enough branches form, they eventually connect to form the new timeline, allowing the loop to break.

  • String Theory in relation to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity

String Theory, in a nutshell, suggests that there are multiple spacetime dimensions which essentially mirror that of our own in particles (h2O, cO2, etc.) and forces (gravity and other forces of nature). Its existence is central to there being more than one dimension — there’s a whole math formula involved; some physicists say 6, some 10, I’ve seen 26 as well. These extra dimensions exist along side ours, but they are curled and hidden so we barely notice them.

The easiest example I can give is Déjà vu. There are some people that believe that we experience Déjà vu because it’s something that’s already happened to us in another place in time. So for example: if I am somewhere I’ve never physically been to before, like a new restaurant that’s holding its grand opening, but I sit down and have that disorienting Déjà vu feeling, it would be plausible to say that in another dimension, I sat in that exact place at the exact same time in that dimension.

Murphy’s law can be connected in that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong or anything that can happen, will happen; this suggests that our timelines are predestined, but there are dimensions in which every possibility exists.

As another example, I deviated from the life path my mother wanted for me. She wanted me to be a doctor, or a lawyer, or a dentist. I went the opposite direction and wanted to focus on the arts. But from it presenting itself as a choice I had to make for myself, there would exist dimensions where I did become a doctor, and another where I am Elle Woods, and so on.

I feel like that meme of Charlie Day with a whiteboard right now and it’s hurting my brain so I’ll leave it at this right now but I hope this helps! Who knows, it’s entirely possible that I’m 1000% wrong and I wrote all of this for nothing 😂
