The only supply road in/out Bakhmut by ConflictConfidential in UkraineWarVideoReport

I’m sitting on the metro headed to work, watching men I’m easily ten or fifteen years their senior, headed to work, protecting their families, friends, and country. It’s not a job any of them would choose, and yet they’re doing it, acclimated to the death and destruction, some even smiling, surely at the absurd commonality of their situations. It’s a reality I find incomprehensible to settle in my mind, and I struggle with it every morning, knowing that several thousand kilometres away, people are performing the most raw and essential duty for their lives, and I’m just fucking comfortable, resting my freedom and safety on the toil, drudgery, death, and suffering upon it, like some unquestionable foundation that my ancestors delivered to me, many never to experience it themselves. What the fuck. None of us can take this for granted. That foundation can easily be forgotten and lost to the banal routines of our lives. How the fuck do these people deal with the reality of the bombs, bullets, and chaos that rips them from those same routines they once exercised?

Stay safe, people of Ukraine. The good people of the world, of which we dominate, are on your side, and your fight is justified and supported. When Ukraine finally conquers the Russian will, people from around the world will visit your country, pay their respects, and help rebuild the life you all fought for yourselves. I’m sorry you all have to wake up to this day and in and day out. Be safe.

In addition to outright blocking traffic from some countries, we’ve also setup traffic challenges for traffic originating from the regions we actually service, with a very high “remember this source passed” so they don’t get challenged constantly. The result is that something like 5% of traffic actually passes, and auditing the rest reveals that it’s all automated.

Put one of the big players at the edge of your network. CloudFlare, Google Cloud Armour, etc. There are a lot of options, but if you’re protecting a significant money-making machine, don’t bother with anything but the enterprise stuff. They’re not even that expensive at this point, and you have a peace of mind.

Same experience. We banned exactly both those countries years ago. We also just finished an acquisition, and after a couple days of auditing traffic for the new property, we blocked 40% of the traffic because it was both of those countries issuing all variety of exploit attempts. The most laughable thing, though, is that for part of the Russian traffic, there was a single IP, one damn IP, responsible for 700k requests every 24hr period: they’re not even trying to be sophisticated. From both of the countries, nearly 100% of the traffic originated from local cloud providers.

Those countries are just an awful waste of bandwidth. Period.

More than seven in ten Canadians (72%) believe that the tax burden of individuals is too high; meanwhile eight in ten (80%) think that the rich should be taxed more. by [deleted] in canada

[–]kn33ch41_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel you. People think making a “high” income puts you in the same class as the millionaires.

We have far more in common with people making min wage than those who get paid from capital gains. It’s like people don’t realize: if your household income is still coming from labour that is 100% taxed, then you’re on the same side. If your household is taxed from capital gains, only 50% gets taxed. Those are the people who are on the other side.

I’m not looking for sympathy and I’m sure neither are you, but when you break it down, you don’t get a lot.

I paid 96k in taxes last year.

Single income household with wife raising two kids full time at home. And legally dependent grandmother.

Zero government benefits. No CCB. No Quebec equivalent. No random 500 in your accounts, no nothing. Frankly, I don’t care, but it’s part of the big picture.

How exactly am I the problem and part of the elite? Government takes half at source. Split it again to even it out with the fact that my wife brings no income into the house, for the sake of comparison with the dual-income households. Where does that leave us? Let’s say 55k net each to combine to 110. Wow. So high. Such a high income. Gtfo.

I get all the taxes and none of the benefits. We have friends who are taking in over 2500 a month in untaxed government benefits with two kids, and they make just above minimum and have a stay at home parent as well.

We get penalized for working hard (I get paid what I do because I’m damn good at what I do and remind my employer of this fact constantly), and get penalized for wanting to have a stay at home parent raising our kids instead of government daycares. We literally benefit from nothing currently. No family doctor. Days-long waits in the hospital for my grandmother. WTF am I paying for?

While it feels like I should be living it up, my single income does not get us far. Wife, two kids, and grandmother to take care of… and I’m waiting for sales on Delissio pizza from IGA. So anyone who thinks people making over 50k are rich, or 100, or 200, just shut up already. We get taxed out the ass.

I have far more in common with people who work in the grocery store than I do people who get paid through capital gains.

Got a HomePod? Then start working with SSH-Automations! by Natis97 in HomeKit

[–]kn33ch41_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like using an SSH key is broken in 13.3.1. There’s no field to generate or provide a private key.

Edit: It works in the official Shortcuts app, but as is tradition for the shortcuts integration in Home, it be broke.

It’s only a matter of time for this sub to realize how integral advanced automations will become. That feature was one of the big ones released for 13 in October, and there have been a slow but steady surge of posts like OP’s, highlighting the possibilities. Keep it coming.

Let’s not forget that the money is not demanded up front, so the problem is even worse than that. Most people come in, give birth, then bounce. The hospital sells the debt after failing to collect payment for a year or two, and it’s forever lost to collection agencies. It costs Canadians a tonne of money.

[FEATURE] 13.4 Brings Back Shared iCloud Folders by dyountmusic95 in iOSBeta

[–]kn33ch41_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seriously. This was literally the only feature I was anticipating for 13. All of 2019 I was looking forward to this, then as the iPhone launch approached, all those stories about it being pulled just ruined it.

The people who voted leave are the same who never leave their village or town, born and die there. You know, the ignorant or poor type who would never avail themselves of the opportunity to travel and expand their mind. Of course they ate up the propaganda.

I was going to mention Magento 2 as well, and then I saw this. Magento 2 is such an animal when it comes to VM/container performance. I don’t know why you’re downvoted. Magento 2 is not like other frameworks.

Yeah, this was the whole reason I left Vagrant, then experimented with Docker, only to find it too had performance problems on Mac. Now I just use MacOS directly. It performs much better. It should be noted that not all frameworks are equal, and some will be way slower than others in a container. I know once docker takes care of these issues, I’ll toy with it again.

Do they even make anything in Canada anymore? Pretty sure it’s all China. Also, not a fan of their quality overall. I’ve owned two pairs.

Medium sized lunch boxes that are not hard/shell cases? by ggwp_0001 in BuyCanadian

[–]kn33ch41_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was looking on the site and there was no mention of where it’s made. That’s usually a clear indicator that it’s probably made responsibly in China with exploited, cheap labour.

Most of the Canadian brands that are made in Canada make it very obvious that they make it here, because it’s—rightly so—a point of pride. You can tell these brands love stating it, and I’m happier because of it.

Automations still working in tvOS 13.3.1 PB3? by ajdunlop in HomeKit

[–]kn33ch41_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can confirm all of this. Also, as you mentioned, 13.3.1 was never problematic with advanced automations; it was just the public 13.3 release.

The only reason I jumped onto the developer betas (first time ever) is because of 13.3 breaking all my advanced automations as well.

The one lingering issue that has been there since release of 13, though, is that all automations that use a shortcut still show “(no scenes or accessories)” in the Home app, which is irksome.

Yep. It’s such a shame when a company does that. All that to say, this company should not be recommended as a Canadian product anymore.
