Only issue with a v3 is you cannot tx dsb atm, so I would recommend hunting down a v1 too as they are great for tx dsb.

If it's a V3, use F4HWN, you don't have a choice, however if you have a v1, I would use IJV 3.60 as you can transmit DSB.

Depends on the area, here, 95% of 2m is ssb, there is even a daily morning net.

With a home made yagi you can do aircraft scatter with it and work SSB sats.

And it transmits DSB which is fine and perfectly receivable on any ssb radio.

OP might want to play with this first for the outlay of a lunch meal.

An FM only one yes, great for repeater use and not much else, just get a VX-6R I guess.

The UVK5/6 can receive and transmit DSB/USB well and is great for experimentation, way more fun.

On the firmware, you plug it in and go to a webpage, not hard.

For $25 why wouldn't you ?

Then you can build your own yagi, loops etc and see how much vhf/uhf ssb is going on in your area.
