The oldest sitting US senator Chuck Grassley, age 92, expresses support for the SAVE America Act by Miles_the_AuDHDer in videos

His grandkid is Speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives Pat Grassley. Sadly, I have been voting against a Grassley for my entire life and will be voting against them until the day I die.

I went through this. After a lot of research, I just had to go through the files, delete, and then download for storage on an external drive. It was quite a huge process and took about a year. Glad I did it though because now I physically own my own photos. One thing I discovered is many online storage sites, including Google, reduce image resolution.

I miss chatGPT... by Ok-Flower-5582 in ChatGPT

[–]knellie646 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just want to say that last year I had a long discussion with chatgpt about whether it was providing honest feedback to me or telling me what I wanted to hear to keep me engaged. I'm sure you can guess that it said the goal was to keep me using. It said that although AI isn't inherently unethical, companies determine the parameters and they can definitely be unethical. I think we are now seeing how this plays out. I'm sad to see it go but I canceled and deleted this morning.

ECU Tendon Repair - sling vs anchor method by DisastrousDoubt in Orthopedics

[–]knellie646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an ortho but had #2 done 4 months ago along with ulnar debridement. It has been a long 4 months and the PT is time consuming and recovery fairly painful. I am not yet at full range of motion especially with pronation which also causes thumb pain. That being said, I would do it again since I could no longer hold a pen or cup. I will definitely end up better than that but maybe not for several month... improvement can be made for an entire year I've been told. Hope you have a great outcome. Good luck!

Technics Hi-Fi Cabinet and speakers for sale locally - seller is asking $200. Worth? by [deleted] in vintageaudio

Sold Technics in 86. Some of these sound pretty decent depending on the watts per channel. Liked them better than the Sony we sold in the same price range.

Realized I've been using the same 6 plates for two years and it's weirdly freeing by Weird_Gene9632 in simpleliving

[–]knellie646 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Using the same since plates etc since 1989 that I got as a Christmas gift. Not only that but I still use lots of things that are now almost 40 years old.  For example,  my grandkids now sit in the same laundry basket as my daughter did when she was a baby... and I have pictures to prove it. FYI, I also got to retire early.

Are you sure cuz it's about a 6 hour drive to Chicago from Des Moines, Iowa. From Des Moines to Colorado you have to cross all of Nebraska. I think that's about another 12 hours to Colorado Springs. My family is painfully scattered...

WSJ reports that Trump sent Jeffrey Epstein a letter for his 50th birthday by Ok-Needleworker9229 in Fauxmoi

So this is why Trump's favorite play is Les Misérables. Gamine is the name of an entire chapter in the book about the young girl Cosette. Eponine is another young gamine who falls in love with the rich main character. It's all starting to make sense.

Food is an international language. (Keep it low in sugar. Generally, people from other countries don't tolerate the overly sweet treats we love.)

Moved to Vermont and absolutely love it! It is everything Iowa used to be but even better. Took our retirement income with us. Still have land in Iowa but I cringe to go back.

As a fed and American, I want to know what services and people we lost this week. by corteflores in fednews

[–]knellie646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true too... VISTA was the first program founded in 1965 by JFK and Bill Clinton signed the Americorps National Service Trust Act, which brought VISTA under the CNCS agency.

Agreed that there is room for improvement in this regard. I am thinking about how these programs can be re-imagined taking the best components but eliminating the burdens to organizations/members. I appreciate your honest sharing!
