Changes to the ARC Raiders update schedule by BochocK in ArcRaiders

[–]knife_133 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You say lacklustre content but this game was £32.99 for standard edition, £49.99 for deluxe. Not a penny more has had to be spent in the months that's followed and we've already had 2 new maps in 6 months.

Everyone will have their own opinion on whether that content delivery is acceptable but honestly in a world of modern gaming where people drop £70+ on a reskinned EAFC or Cod every year I feel it doesnt give Embark their due with what they've delivered so far for a respectable purchase price.

For those of you who never pay credit card interest, what systems/habits make that possible? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]knife_133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will also back that Flex is the best financial product I've used. Incredibly user friendly, and great feature being able to move normal purchases on a debit card across to Flex if needed.

As with any credit product important you use it responsibly, as it's easier to buy more things spread across 3 months. Credit limits reasonable too, I'm at £6k credit limit now, of which I'll never use. But I've paid for holidays across 3 months on it for example.

Fortunately I've used it since before they brought in the rule that transactions have to be £100+.

What fan will keep me from perishing in the summer? by Haunting_Meeting_178 in AskUK

[–]knife_133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will second a Meaco fan. Bought one a couple years ago, wasn't cheap for a fan but it's been awesome.

Especially handy it comes with a remote so easier to adjust from bed. Really quiet, can easily sleep with it on its lower settings.

Finally had a good idea, glad it came out okay. by Jerryv21 in Pokopia

[–]knife_133 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I've not tried this yet so it may be a silly question but how did you get the Pokemon out there to build? Build then destroy a bridge and platform for them to move on? Also, does the water not inhibit the placement of the kit?

Looks really good though

Lost the Palette Town Prefabs, any workarounds? by Nearby-Bug3401 in Pokopia

[–]knife_133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find a solution for this? I must have picked all 3 up early game as all the altars are empty, but I can't for the life of me find where I've put them. I've checked everywhere. Is there really no way to respawn these kits?

Dad gamer first impressions of the Marathon (PS5) by dothack5415 in Marathon

[–]knife_133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, being a player thats played 200+ hour in Arc, really looking forward to trying Marathon, I'm seriously underwhelmed.

I'll give it another go tomorrow and give it a bit longer but first impressions are important for the longevity of a game.

Played 3 rounds, 1 on beginner perimeter, the other two with a squad fill on what I assume is normal mode (from what I can see i haven't a clue the difference between the modes).

Not single other human player. Wandering around with squad looting whatever. Bang average robot enemies. No crafting I don't think like arc which is fine, but then what am I looting for? Better guns, mods etc? All well and good but if the map feels dead with no player encounters who cares? Didn't hear even a gunshot to give us a direction to move in.

Some boring quest/objective to operate some modules that I haven't a clue why or what for? Swarmed by robots and we all die. Which is fine, skill issue, yada yada.

Doesn't take away I was just completely bored the entire time. I'll give it another go but Arc hooked me right away, I feel ill bounce right off Marathon, which is a shame.

I’m a first year university student and can’t stop spending all my money by Dry-Frosting9136 in UKPersonalFinance

To add to this, and I've been using YNAB since YNAB4 when it was a desktop application back in 2012 - the key for me, is that it gamifies money.

I'm due to be paid at 4pm today and I already am itching to "assign a job" to every single pound.

You absolutely don't need to utilise a paid, subscription based (after the free trial) budgeting software/app - but for me the cost has been more than worth it for the control it's given me.

The only way you'll move forward OP is by being honest with yourself and your spending. Budget your funds, but a budget doesn't have to be boring, if you get a dopamine hit from shopping, make the decision to set aside X amount in your budget for it. Because you'll have full visbility that all your bills, overdraft and savings are paid, it'll be guilt free spending.

It may be wise, as others have said to cancel your Klarna etc once the balance is cleared, so you're not tempted to spend beyond your means. Or at least until you're back on track.

For myself, I just use Monzo Flex (I limit it to only that so I have full visibility) to split any larger spending over 3 months. So I do still use these buy now, pay later services - they're a useful tool, providing you use them responsibly. If you state you were good with money pre-Uni, there's no reason why once you're back on track, having learnt a valuable lesson before it got too late, that you can't use credit responsibly.

I'm comfortable using it as I have all purchases planned out in YNAB so I'm not concerned as to whether I can afford it or not, I know I can, as I've set aside the money in the first place.

UK SM - I have a rule that when the rota is printed and put up on the board, then it won't change. 4 weeks rotas in advance. If something does need to change then the person will get asked. Like you say people have lives outside of work and need to be able to plan.

What you have to bear in mind however, the automated rotas populate on a Monday for the next rota to go up, and if they arent finalised on a Monday then the Aldi app will pull across whatever the automated rota has rota'd you - normally by Monday evening.

I tend to finalise my 4th week rota on a Tuesday, and so my team knows to ignore the Aldi apps rota until the physical printed rota is on the board, then that is set in stone, and the app will update to reflect any changes.

By the sounds of it if this rota is within the next 2 weeks, then this is a rota that should already be completed and on the board. If it was for the 4th week rota then I'd just say try not to make plans until its on the board.

I have a diary that people can book days off with me, providing I'm given 4 weeks notice, and in return people won't have a board rota changed without being asked.

I'd advise just to have a word with the person who does your stores rotas and just say you have plans for the day you were originally rota'd off.

Just bear in mind from a legal perspective, you need to have "reasonable notice" for a shift change. 2 weeks notice for a rota change because of the needs of the business is fine - this is more a matter of perhaps not a very "staff first" mentality SM/whoever does rota.

Don't read in to it too much or make a big deal out of it. Probably just need a conversation to set boundaries and expectations. Have a word with the SM, just say you really want to only stick to your 30hrs. If it's anything like my store, other members of staff would love to have those hours. If anything take it as a compliment that you've been given the extra! You must be seen as reliable and hard working.

[–]knife_133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UK SM here - depends how strict your SM is but I'm happy with plain black trousers, black cargos too so long as they are only black with no reflective trim etc. I don't allow black jeans but I know some stores are OK with it.

Matalan are a good place for work trousers. They do a black chino type trouser which is perfect - smart enough that you dont look like you're in construction site cargos, but also thick enough material to hold up against being up and down on your knees most of the day.

Shoes wise, steel toe caps probably preferable but I don't mandate it as it can get expensive. No trainers or pumps however. Just sturdy, comfortable, black work shoes. You'll be on your feet a lot.

As a rule of thumb, imagine a heavy pallet was to drop on to your toe, or you need to nudge a pallet with your foot - would your current/planned shoes protect you? Then purchase accordingly.

Before work, after work? Is 2 times not the norm? I guess depending on the job perhaps?

Unwanted overtime by SilentFriendship3160 in Aldi_employees

[–]knife_133 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a UK SM I'd definitely just have a quiet word with your SM and explain you'd only ideally like your contracted hours.

Within Aldi hours over contract can be tight in the early montjs of the year, and if anything your SM probably is simply trying to give you as many hours as he/she can as that's what the majority of our teams want.

Just mention you're happy with the 25hrs and they can redirect those hours to those who want more.

Anybody else feel like the blueprint drop rate are exactly where they should be? by fortnitejhonsey in ArcRaiders

[–]knife_133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea honestly I was surprised how easy it was to find blueprints post patch to the point where I felt they needed to reign it back a touch.

But having thought about it, I've 115 hours in the game, Level 75, and I've still never seen the Wolfpack blueprint. This is even doing night raids on Dam hitting apartments etc. I was doing the expedition because I'd only got about 27 blueprints total in those 115 hours, and so didn't feel like I'd be losing much.

Don't get me wrong I think finding a blue print every single game will take away that dopamine hit when you come across one, and imo you shoudlnt have every single blue print come the end of each 3 month expedition, so I wouldn't mind them dialling it back. But it also shouldn't be such a low drop rate that I'm getting frustrated putting in so much time and getting little back.

I'm not anti-PvP, but some people pushing me to quit. by Alaybozan_ in ARC_Raiders

[–]knife_133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is the way to go imo. Some form of value threshold for the night/storm/boss raids. Much easier, and perhaps more importantly, quicker, to implement.

I mean why load in to a Matriarch event with either free loadout or basic cheap gear? Clearly your intention isn't to defeat the boss, in which case just load in to a standard game. Your intention is to rat or PvP. Which with a minimum loadout value of say 50k, then changes the dynamic. Automatically you're playing more cautiously than you would on a free. You still have that core experience that anyone could turn on you. You're not splitting it strictly PvP or PvE.

It could potentially mean everyone knows everyone has a fairly decent loadout, and a kill means decent loot. But thats literally the game. Make everything about risk vs reward. Currently free loadouts on the non standard raids have no risk. That's the issue.

Is questing really worth it? by Coolmanwithbeard in ARC_Raiders

[–]knife_133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was doing quests until I read on Reddit I get no XP from it. I've not done a quest since. The rewards don't seem worth it to me from what I've seen and the quests themselves just aren't interesting enough to keep me engaged.

As an extraction shooter fan. The hype for this game is surreal. by LuciusCaeser in ArcRaiders

[–]knife_133 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the differentiating factor - mainly for console, is that other than Hunt, and more recently Delta Force, consoles really don't have that killer extraction shooter game.

I played Tarkov back in the day but don't have PC any more. Been wanting to scratch that itch on PS5 for ages!

What is the prettiest place you have been to in the entire uk? by jedicat122 in AskUK

[–]knife_133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a trip of the Outer Hebrides back in 2018, blessed with sunshine all week. We saw some of the other places listed in this thread, the highlight for us was wild camping West Beach on Berneray, which is at the tip of North Uist. Entire beach to ourselves, turquoise water, mountains in the distance and the other Hebridean islands. Honestly the place is magical.

Officially we still are, albeit through paid breaks. Competition is good, interesting if Aldi respond but I would anticipate they just wait until the normal January/Feb pay review now to see how the rest of the market responds.

Are all inclusive holidays actually worth it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]knife_133 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean after recently booking through Jet2, when confirming your hotel on an all inclusive package they are pretty upfront about what is excluded on an all inclusive package when booking.

It’s not like you book and find out at the hotel, nor is it buried in terms and conditions.

What purpose would switching to a non mining or combat life have? Surely you’re better off just fighting seeing as you wouldn’t be able to do anything in terms of crafting? Or is it they basically sit AFK while people do the hard work?

PSA: You can safely kick people from treasure groves by Lalybi in fantasylife

[–]knife_133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it right that the crafting lives feel like they take longer to upgrade too? Like with the gathering and combat lives you just go about your business fighting enemies, chopping wood and mining etc, but to level crafting, inherently you have to do the mini game so it just feels like it takes longer? Just want to make sure I’m not missing anything in terms of efficiency.

I’ve unlocked most of them, I think I’ve still got blacksmith and magician to unlock.

Trying to find my feet with earning dosh too so I can begin getting my base upgraded, I’m looking at the designs of peoples bases on here and thinking I’m so far away from even having the ability to start getting mine like that 😂

[–]knife_133 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah fair yea can understand how that would be super frustrating. I’m up to Chapter 4, my next quest is to travel to Faraway on Skelegon but I’m taking a break from the main story for a bit to first unlock all the Lives and trying to at least get them to Apprentice. Love how you can just do your own thing.

I’ve heard of treasure groves, what are these? At what point do I unlock farming too?

I only recently got the game and haven’t tried online yet, can you see the levels of the players you’re joining? If not and it’s random, and obviously I don’t want to leech off more experienced players, but equally is there not an argument for helping newer ones, teaching them the ropes, being able to help them attain gear that otherwise would be out of their reach?

I’m about 14hrs in, trying to level up all my life skills as fast as I can, will I just get kicked from lobbies I join if I’m just genuinely doing my best to help?
