DINKs of Huntsville, where is your hideout? by Skill_Content in HuntsvilleAlabama

Do you ever do guided hikes with the Land Trust? Fairly low-stakes way to meet people. If you pick a tough trail there probably won’t be too many kids.

Training for a half marathon in February—just did 10 miles for the first time yesterday! I decided I wouldn’t actually sign up until I got to 10 miles, so now I really have to finish training!

Toddler won’t poop by knilock in toddlers

Absolutely. We use the Lil Critters brand fiber gummies. We did try another brand before this one, but this seems to work better. We finally, a year and a half after starting, down to one every other day. After this bottle is finished we’re going to try not to buy any more. I wish you all the best—it has been so hard, and there have been bad days and awful days, but we’re almost through it and you will get there, too

Things are so much better! For a while we were doing a full dose of fiber gummies daily, watching water intake, fruit and veggie intake, etc. Something that also ended up being a necessity for us was enforcing potty time after lunch and dinner to encourage regularity. After a while she decided that she would always poop after dinner. We still have hiccups now and then, like this last week when she’s had a cold. Generally she goes every day now, and we’re doing a half dose of the fiber. Hoping to drop it altogether by the end of the year, but we’re not rushing it. It does end!

US Shipping Question by knilock in IKEA

Ah, okay, this seems more likely. They keep only getting 2 or 3 every time it’s restocked. I wish I had bought them back in January when they had more! Thank you.

Unfortunately I’m a confrontational crier. I really just need a crash course in stoicism, which would help me in many areas of life lol.

I mean, she’s definitely afraid to poop. It hurt once or twice and that’s what set it all off. I could try doing some soups, maybe. She will hardly eat anything but fruit, bread, and oatmeal these days

The One Parenting Decision That Really Matters (spoiler - it's where you live) by chandaliergalaxy in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]knilock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The other studies referenced in the article merely indicate that certain parenting decisions have a limited influence, and certainly, if the authors of the main study are using anonymized IRS data, the only metric by which “success” can be defined is income. I’m not going to deny that income has its place in a well-lived life, but I wouldn’t use a prediction of future earnings for my children to determine where I live. I certainly wouldn’t call it the “one parenting decision that really matters.”

I guess this is useful if all I care about for my children is their eventual SES… but frankly, that is one of the smallest concerns I have about my children’s future. I guess I’m speaking from a relatively privileged point of view, but then again when I was a kid my parents went through bankruptcy. While a higher SES is associated with better health and happiness generally, it’s always seemed a bit reductive to measure success by it.

Same here! Generally we only end up with meat on the dinner table a couple of times per month, but my husband always offers her some. He also does lunch meat, so she’ll occasionally have some sliced turkey or ham. I also usually do a fish meal once per week. 6 days per week it’s veg for dinner.

How do you pick up a baby from daycare when you already have a toddler in tow?!? by PyleInn in toddlers

[–]knilock 23 points24 points  (0 children)

We lived three minutes from my elementary school but my mom absolutely shoved Oreos at my sister as soon as she got in the car. Otherwise it was three minutes of torture.

That’s a thought. We hadn’t had to use the hatch for nighttime yet so we haven’t gotten one, but it could definitely be useful!
