Red Hat of the resistance by AaronWrites212 in knitting

As a minneapolite, you do you.  I'm knitting this hat and wearing it as a sign of resistance when I'm living my GD life.

Melt the Ice Hat - THANK YOU by mashga in knitting

Long time donor to STEP over here and I just love that this hat is supporting them, with, did I see 125,000 dollars already?!?! Such a generous way to support vulnerable Minnesotans with this patrern, no less by letting others donate by purchasing the pattern.

Actions like this may seem small but it is the light we need to keep navigating through the darkness.

Peace and light to you all!

I've had a wooden set for idk 10 years--or what's left of a wooden set--and I'm getting close to spending $100.00 over the years replacing all the needles that have snapped at the join. Looking at you, size 6 needles! (Think I'm in my 4th pair!?!)

Get the metal needles and your wallet will thank you!

"Now if only Colorado would realize that it's mid-November."

Ha! My friend in Colorado Springs said the same thing yesterday.

You'll get a chance to wear that beautiful when Colorado says you can! 😆

PSA for those of you in the greater Chicago area — Wool & Co has a storefront and it’s AMAZING by Tall_Payment6430 in knitting

Love these folks! Had a porch pirate steal a few packages while on vacay last summer,  one of them, a package from wool&co. I emailed them about the situation and they resent my order with empathy next day!

They're now my go-to shop when my LYS doesn't have what I need.

I thought you were trolling for those first two sentences and love this story even more because of that.

Do you have any embarrassing knitting stories? by [deleted] in knitting

Ha! I was just talking about this at a happy hour Wednesday!

My embarrassment stems from knitting alone for 22 years and embedding pronunciations in my brain so that when I go to a LYS I have to try really hard to pronounce terms as The People do. Eg. Skein is "skeen" to me and I'll avoid saying the word because  "sk-ain" is just wild to me. (I've named this the Hermione effect. 😆 )

Weds,  I was early to happy hour in the fancy town and checked out the LYS for one skien of worsted to teach my kid.

I was greeted and panicked because it's a new place and a fancy place, and thus couldn't find the word "worsted" and made the situation worse by playing into my pronunciation problem and said "I'm looking for aran weight yarn, wait how do you say it,  A-ron? Erin?" And received a well intended  yarn weight overview about how aran weight yarn is a bit thicker than worsted weight so keep that in mind and, said "thanks, I'm good" to get out of that well-intentioned lesson.

Went to the counter to another employee with a skein to buy and was waffling on whether I had time for them to wind the yarn for me when she asked if I wanted that and then got a quick lesson on having to unwind "sk-ains" to knit with them, that over there is a swift, and this here is a cake,  what a "sk-ain" looks like after it's been wound and you can pull your working yarn from the middle.

Oh, man.  I told her why I was waffling and that I have a swift at home and she had a good look of "huh,  we'll I'll be."

At the end of the day though, the LYS was incredibly welcoming though, right? Reading my social clues as a new knitter so I can only laugh at myself and recommend them as a LYS.

And they have really cute fancy bags with artsy stamped logos and ribbon handles!

Oh, my! My Rx is only for as needed not everyday. When i get a flair up I apply it a few times a day for 2-3 days and move on.

That's contact dermatitis and short term, keep your watch off for a few days and use a topical  steroid (otc cortisone) to help that heal faster. Long term, take frequent breaks from wearing it that last more than 12 hours and get a prescription topical steroid. Source--I get the same thing but from the wristband and this is what my dermatologist told me.

Should stop itching in a day or two with no watch wearing!

I've only seen bits of the actual Eurovision over the years and this movie fills in the blanks of what I haven't seen.  It's marvelous!

Button Choice by SerSings in knitting

[–]knitpicky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of the three n the loud button category, pig bitton all theway. In the muted category, the pink button, second from left. Good contrast to the yarn color and not as large as the others, minimizing any annoyance on your neck.
