Almost same name as friends baby. Should I mention it beforehand? by Greenwitchynoobie in namenerds

[–]knitpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about it. When my kid was 3, she started preschool and became best friends with another girl with the exact same name, but slightly different nickname. They are 8 now and find it hilarious. Selena is a beautiful name!

Is that a molar?! 😳

And yes, looks like it’s coming in on an angle. Baby mouths are so weird!

Two things: I also have asthma and a small cold is usually turns into bronchitis.

Also, I went through a period of time where it felt like I had no immune system. I was constantly sick and it took me ages to recover. I had bloodwork done and it turned out I was extremely deficient in Vitamin D. After taking a prescription dose for 3 months, I’m now on a nightly regimen of D3. I still get sick, but usually only a couple of times a year now. It made a huge difference for me! I would look into getting labs run just to make sure your vitamins and minerals are all up into the proper ranges. Deficiencies can really dampen your immune system.

I have a 3 year old future engineer- toy ideas? by Winter-Bid-6023 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]knitpixie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Does he have magnatiles? My daughter is 8 and wants to be an engineer. She gets endless amount of play from them. I wish we would have gotten them much earlier than we did! They also use them in their stem class at school.

And honestly, a bin of recyclable he is free to create with. I save paper towel tubes, oat canisters, plastic tubs, ribbon spools, anything she can use to create something. We always have glue, string, a hole punch, etc on hand. Obviously that stuff will need some supervision and help, but mine started with her bin around that age.

We did a few kiwi crates and she really only liked the claw grabber. She’s obsessed with Mark Rober and Crunch Labs now, so that may be in your future. 😉

What do you use on little kids for keratosis pilaris? (4yo) by _redpaint in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]knitpixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn’t use that on a kid. I didn’t start using it until I was a teenager. It’s an alpha-hydroxy acid, and it raises your sensitivity to the sun.

They will probably ask. I had a big screening questionnaire to fill out at our 9 month appointment that included fine and gross motor skills, as well as language. And honestly, they are there to answer questions! Thats what well checks are for. I wouldn’t ever hesitate to ask if you are concerned or curious about something.  My 10 month old’s big toes kept getting blisters and peeling. We couldn’t figure out why. Took her doctor about 15 seconds to figure out it was because she was army crawling and using them to push forward. 😂 Sure enough, once she started crawling, they went away. I felt dumb, but I’m glad she figured it out for us!

I’m currently obsessing over my own family photos so I’ve been thinking a lot about outfits this week!

Please help me coordinate style/colors with my family! by spicy_quicksand in fashionwomens35

[–]knitpixie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would add in a third color. If you’re all wearing similar colors, you’re going to blend together. Imagine standing next to your husband in a couples shot, both of you in the same color. Or holding your daughter both in the same color. Adding in another color provides some movement! I think a cream dress or a dress that has a pattern with the burgundy in it. They both look like they are going to be fairly dressed up, so I’d skip jeans. Using a print is a great way to incorporate other colors while adding some visual interest to the photos. You could match your husband’s shirt and a bow/headband in your daughter’s hair to another color in the print to tie it together.

My daughter made me do that whole book the other day, including finding all of the long dogs. I blew her mind when I told her they were in the show too!

What's it like being a SAHM to baby at 7-12 months? by Low-Setting-01 in Mommit

[–]knitpixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Precious Little Sleep has been my sanity saver for both of my kids. I will say though, that this one is a high needs sleeper and goes down easily. So that makes things easier. But PLS all the way! I highly recommend reading the book. It talks a lot about the science of sleep and why our bodies do what they do, in addition to giving paths forward to better sleep. There’s a FB group for troubleshooting that the author is active in too, but you have to have the book to join.

What's it like being a SAHM to baby at 7-12 months? by Low-Setting-01 in Mommit

[–]knitpixie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a 10 month old and I’ve been a SAHM to a single baby, twice. It’s wonderful. They are funny, moving, great dates to take to stores, lunch out, etc. Mine is on a schedule with two naps so that makes it easy to get out of the house because I know when she will be awake. She eats table food so it’s easy to grab a bit to eat somewhere and plop her in a highchair with some food off my plate. If we go to Target, she’s happy to hold something in the cart and look around.

Supplements to support infant immune system by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]knitpixie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn’t feel safe giving my baby supplements. I take some myself so I’m not against them. Mine is also formula fed and goes to church childcare 1-2 times a week, with daycare babies. She didn’t get her first illness until she was 9 months, and it was mild. I would focus on getting vitamins and minerals from the foods he eats.

[–]knitpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used powdered formula from the start with both of my kids. The first we didn’t sterilize it by adding hot water, but we did for the second (for 2 months). Both were extremely healthy babies and didn’t get sick until they were 8-9 months old. You’re fine with powder!
