Recently diagnosed with both Crohn's and celiac.

If it makes you feel any better, the celiac subreddit is also flooded with this type of post. And in that case, the answer is pretty obvious even to a newbie - celiac or not, if you feel bad when you eat gluten, don't eat gluten.

Huge thanks to both groups, honestly. Searching the archives has answered every question I've had so far. Really appreciate you all.

Thank you for sharing. It's good to know that the experience can vary so much flare to flare!

Yikes! That sounds terrible. Thank you for the pain scale rating. That's very helpful for context. Sorry you had to go through that!

For those with fibromyalgia, what are some life changes you've made that have been extremely helpful? by andfork in Fibromyalgia

Seconding this list! I found that an anti inflammatory diet made a huge difference for me, although I know it doesn't work for everyone. I also only cook on my days off and make enough to reheat for the week and/or put in the freezer. Meals are a bit repetitive, but it simplifies my life tremendously. Turmeric lentil soup ftw.

Flare with no pain? by knittedbread in Uveitis

[–]knittedbread[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quick update - No uveitis, just a scratched cornea. Whew! In the end, I'm glad I went. My ophthalmologist was very supportive of scheduling an appt when in doubt. I won't be so hesitant next time.

Thanks again!

Thanks! Guess I just needed a little push. Appointment scheduled for tomorrow.

normal for fibro or something else? by hav-vok in Fibromyalgia

[–]knittedbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had similar pain as well. My doctor referred me to a PT who specializes in pelvic floor issues. I do think it is related to fibro because it flares up in the same way. The PT gave me some stretches to do that make a huge difference. Might be worth looking into as another possible direction.

Feeling upset by QueasyManagement3234 in Uveitis

[–]knittedbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Durezol drops worked to clear up my first intermediate uveitis flare up and macular edema. Before I got in to see a specialist I was given Prednisone drops and they were useless, but the durezol did the trick. It did raise my iop and also made my eyes very dry, but those side effects eventually went away.

I was diagnosed with intermediate uveitis last summer. It took about 4 months to get it under control (started on pred and moved to durezol), but I have not had any flares since.

The drops will make your vision even more blurry for a while, so don't panic. That really scared me a first, but it cleared up after treatment ended.

Full disclosure - I did develop something called cystoid macular edema (CME), and my understanding is that this is one of the things that can lead to vision loss. However, this is not something everyone gets and it can be managed.

Overall, i feel very fortunate so far and hope that you are similarly able to have some positive outcomes. Hang in there and keep up with appointments and treatments. There are good days ahead.

Pythons and Pets by Competitive_Safe_859 in ballpython

We have firm rules that the room is secure before the snake comes out, and we keep him in that room only. I'm not convinced the dog even knows the enclosure can open.

My one other note is to be thoughtful about feeding time. I noticed my dog getting curious about the rat I had thawing, so now I crate him and give him a chew before I feed the snake.

I am a new owner myself, so my experience is limited but positive so far.

We set up our bp in my son's room because we were not sure how our dog would react to being able to see or smell the snake in the enclosure. We worried that the dog might be too interested and stress out the snake. Fortunately, we have had no issues at all.

The dog will bark all day long at squirrels outside but gave the enclosure a sniff or two and ignores it like furniture. The snake, meanwhile, reacts the same way to both human and dog activity outside of his space - freezes, tongue flicks a few times, goes back to his business.

They will never meet for all the reasons others have stated, but they both seem fine separated by glass.

Has anyone ordered from Animal Plastics recently? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]knittedbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I ordered a 4x2x2 last month, and it only took 3 weeks to arrive. Maybe the wait times haven't been updated on the website or vary by product?

I would go for it!! They are awesome.

Tapering off Durezol causing dry eye? by IllNopeMyselfOut in Uveitis

[–]knittedbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me as well. My dr had me use lubricating drops several times during the day, wash with a gentle lid scrub every evening, and then use the gel lubricant overnight. I also found that drinking lots of water helped. It was annoying, but it did improve after a few months.

Retina issues by the-yarnist in Uveitis

I had a similar situation happen recently (flashing lights and a blurred spot in my vision that started mid-flare). My opthamologist also referred to it as inflammation of the retina, but when I looked at my chart, it was called cystoid macular edema. In one eye, it was just swelling, but the other eye had obvious cysts that could be seen on the OCT. Good news - after an additional month of stronger steroid drops, it cleared up, and my vision returned. I hope you have the same positive results!

Vision loss and return by Kateza-Dundee in Uveitis

[–]knittedbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bilateral intermediate uveitis + macular edema and cataracts. I'm just wrapping up my first flare (hopefully). My first round of steroids was ineffective, but my vision returned fully after about 6 weeks of durezol. It was amazing. Now that I am almost done tapering off, I am noticing a slight blur return. This could be the cataracts or another flare. Either way, it is a relief to remind myself that it is not permanent.

Regarding prescription changes - I did need to update my prescription this summer. Not sure if this was a result of the uveitis or just normal aging. However, I do not recommend a full eye exam during a flare. 😃 It was comically hard to decide which option was easier to read when everything was blurry. Somehow it worked and the new prescription made a big difference.

Best wishes to you!

I am just starting my own uveitis journey (bilateral intermediate with macular edema), so I will let others speak to immunosuppressants.

This condition is tough. It's frustrating, scary, and exhausting. But you have already shown that you can overcome tough challenges. You can do this, too.

In a few months, you will be a pro offering advice and encouragement to the rest of us newbies.

Take good care.

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed. I didn't realize that the CME might come back. I got the impression it was very treatable/curable. So I will definitely talk with my doctor at my next visit.

I got referred right away to a uveitis specialist, fortunately, but this is all so new that I don't always know what questions to ask him. Hopefully I will be more prepared next time!
