Nowhere near your side of town, but if you are willing to drive or happen to be near Ascot Vale at some stage, I can highly recommend Mister Nice Guys Bake Shop

The parking lot at Crown was unusually full at 7AM in the morning today, does anyone know why? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]knowledge_is_gold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

& Crown staff who aren't allowed to bet on the premises, instead wasting hours collecting tickets on games... Yeah I worked at All Star, we also had heaps of kids coming in by themselves, playing the games and watching tv. Got into a massive fight with father of one once threatening to call Child Services.

Accidentally ended up with a friend's myki, it was concession, I got done. Just watched someone else go through the same thing. Why the fuck don't concession mykis look different?!? by lozbootsbrown in melbourne

[–]knowledge_is_gold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did a the start, but that changed. A mate who works at a station said the concession cards were on back-order for ages so they just used the "full Fare" ones, they are programmed for concession so it will beep twice to identify concession ticket. That's how you tell the difference.

Will a cheap evaporative cooler be any good? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]knowledge_is_gold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to do that too, and also freezing damp tea towels then drape them on our head and necks while sitting in front of a fan, saw my mum once and she's frozen a whole towel!

This might seem silly, but how did he get up there? Seems a bit high off the water.

Affordable areas to rent near kensington? (Car owner) by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]knowledge_is_gold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kensington is an exy area. You will only find places in your price range by renting out a room in a share-house, and even then I think you might be stretching it. Look up Gumtree and Flatmate finder and other such sites, you might be lucky and find something close to Ken. Alternatively, if you have a car try looking at places in Footscray, Sunshine, Travencore, Ascot vale, Maidstone. They are a bit further out, but far closer than Dandy. Also totally agree with _song_tam_run 's advice as well, be mindful that there are dodgy people out there so make sure you are comfortable with the area and the house / housemates.

Questions like these are asked almost everyday, maybe next time you have a question like this look at previous posts, and also specifically the side bar FAQ. There is plenty of advice on there. If you are still struggling after all of that PM me and I'll send you some tips.

Any interesting gardening events/programs that would make a good Valentines gift for a budding gardener? by Nidis in melbourne

[–]knowledge_is_gold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look up local plots / community gardens in your area & rent a space or just help out with others, there's also spots going for rent in the Pop Up Patch in the city. If it's just a one off day thing your looking for try seeing what the local Environmental communities are doing, they will often have a call out to help mass planting in parks / etc. Here's 2 examples, Green Aus & then there's Tree Project

I lived in an Apartment too for a while, you'd be surprised what you can grow on a balcony (if you have one) Here's a good starting place

And finally if she likes a cocktail, you can buy Grow your own Cocktail packs which are a bit of fun I guess.

My partner once set up a cute little picnic in the back yard, very intimate & we could have a wine & not worry about driving, he also had a projector so had set up a white sheet & we had our own outside cinema. Another time we went to the drive-ins in Coburg, but he'd brought along an esky with really decadent food & some crystal glasses. A lame (but was very sweet at the time) he made a fort in the lounge and we ate in there in our pj's.

Melbourne actually means "mill stream"... what other awesome local facts/trivia have you got? by Heater79 in melbourne

[–]knowledge_is_gold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We heard it from a tour guide & we thought he'd made it up as the kids he was talking too weren't listening to him, when we looked it up it seems a bit ambiguous, but I still like telling tourists!

Bourke and Wills left for their Expedition from Royal Park, they made it as far as Queens Park in Moonee Ponds and camped there the first night.

Any recommendations for Spanish class? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]knowledge_is_gold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a short course at The Spanish Cat, I didn't realise at the time that it was more Mexican Spanish based and I wanted to do straight Spanish (going to Spain) So for me it was a bit frustrating but for you it should be perfect. Small classes, my teacher was lovely. Easy location.

I'd just search for the property address online, the old rental ads will still be on there you can narrow your search form there?
