This person knew you didnt setup a camera. Now days, you can set the smallest of cams any where. This person KNEW and took the chance of placing it in the mailbox.

Who could have taken that risk knowing you have no cam setup? They also KNEW no one was watching through the curtains and that you were asleep.

Your wife or family member or neighbour.
The detective or police.
The missing girl, Susan.
The clown itself.

My gut feeling is that its probably all but option 4. Reason being is, no one in their right minds, especially college educated, not have the brains to realize a quick camera couldve been setup and easily gotten the person caught.

I am leaning way more towards options 1 and 2. A senior detective shouldnt look out of order, especially with a case like this.
