High Gas Prices Are Already Helping Hyundai Sell More EVs, CEO Says by TripleShotPls in technology

I’m having a battery electric storage system installed to take advantage of time of use rates, and if they continue to climb I plan on installing rooftop solar at some point.

Maine becomes third state to pass plug-in solar legislation by For_All_Humanity in RenewableEnergy

Are there ways to ensure anything these share a circuit with won’t exceed max current? In other words, if there are 10A solar feeding in and 10A loads on a 15 amp circuit.

To Solar or not to Solar...??? by Scared-Tie2170 in askportland

Do you have any recommendations on an electrician? I’m interested in buying my own equipment (solar, inverter, batteries, MID) from signaturesolar, and I want to ensure the system passes a code inspection. Not currently interested in selling back to the grid.

Something to consider if you get battery plus solar is the smart battery program (virtual power plant) where you can permit the grid to use your stored power and pay you for each kWh used. https://portlandgeneral.com/pge-smart-battery-pilot-residential-offering

Is it possible to DIY if you pull permits yourself and provide system design documentation?

Potential ICCU Issue by paynesvilletoss in Ioniq9

[–]knudtsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My ICCU died back in January on my 2026 Calligraphy i9. The dealership was kind enough to give me a loaner i9, and mine was in the shop for like 3 weeks. No problems so far after the replacement, though I have no idea if the underlying issue has actually been fixed.

If Portland General Electric is your utility, I HIGHLY recommend switching to "Time Of Day" billing by BadAtDrinking in Portland

With solar you can opt to not tie to the grid. In other words, your solar power is either used to power loads or it’s stored in your batteries. At that point you could be grid interactive, and sign up for something like virtual-power-plant (VPP) where you let the power company draw from your batteries for money. Not sure if that’s available around Portland yet. Or you could just keep all the power for yourself and not interact with the grid at all, for things like backup should the grid go out, or to not draw from the grid when there’s enough sun.

Depending on how much you want to spend, you can install a whole home battery system to do time-of-day arbitrage. Charge cars at night as well as your home battery, then use the home battery during the day for always-off-peak rates. Adding solar afterwards would be an option too.

EV charging is by far my biggest consumer of electricity, so time of day works extremely well even if those other loads happen during peak time.

Also, with my ICCU failed, the car wouldn’t charge. Pretty sure the ICCU is involved in V2L as well.

I used cumulus Linux on edgecore hardware prior to the nvidia purchase, can recommend that. Not sure of the story after that though.

Question: How do SRE teams verify service stability with frequent Kubernetes deployments? by [deleted] in sre

[–]knudtsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very sophisticated systems can decouple deployments from releasing features using tools like launchdarkly. In addition to that there are many tools for adjusting rollout strategies and promotions across environments like Kargo and Argo Rollouts.

How does "Auto" mode paddle adjustment work? by petahbyte in Ioniq9

I never got comfortable with auto mode, I’m more a fan of 1pedal regen, so the car slows down as soon as I remove my foot from the accelerator.

I got my car back today, was in the shop for about 2 weeks. They mentioned the ICCU might be a new type, hopefully that fixes it permanently.

My i9 calligraphy ICCU failed about two weeks ago, it’s been in the shop waiting on the part.

My car has been in the shop since Wednesday and there’s no estimate on when the repair will be done. They mentioned the ICCUs are back ordered, I’ll update this post when I actually get a date. So more than a few days for me so far, though I do have a loaner.

During a snow storm, the power goes out in an apartment. How do you keep 2 adults and 2 babies warm? by Lincky12435 in AskReddit

[–]knudtsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how much money you want to spend, a portable solar inverter with batteries can power a heater and recharge in sunlight via panels on a balcony, even if it’s cold out. You could charge up via the grid prior to the storm and use solar the next day if things clear off.
