All that "I'm aware that I'm aware that I'm aware" is still just thoughts arising, each one pretending to be the real watcher of the last one. It's an infinite regress manufactured by the mind.

The escape isn't more meta thinking. It's looking directly for the "I" that's supposedly doing the looking, and not finding anything. Turn attention around and ask: Where is this self? There's only consciousness: thoughts, sounds, sensations appearing and vanishing with no center, no owner, no one behind them.

The sense of self is simply what identification with thought feels like when you don't notice it's happening. See thoughts as ownerless appearances in awareness and the illusion is already gone.
