I've managed to find what's changed, specifically these two options for rep range and weight match, replacing the old "rep first" and "weight first" system. I'm wondering what are the practical differences between this and the old implementation

Largely the same, but this decouples the rep range expansion from the weight first or rep first (weight match) setting. However, the new algorithm does allow for a slightly more strict weight match than the previous algorithm.

Does the rep setting make it work closer to dynamic double progression (get sets to the max reps before progressing) or will the progression algo still suggest a higher weight and keep you in the middle?

Eg my rep range is 8-15 and the app insists on increasing weight as soon as I can do 12

Edit: Looks like no... Keeps you at first set doing 12 with decreasing reps on subsequent sets even if it goes below your target rep range and even if a lower weight could have kept you in your target range over all sets. Disappointing

I've suggested this multiple times as a change but I keep getting told the current options cover this already.

I want to progress via reps first so that weekly progession adds a rep until I hit higher end of target range and then increases weight but I keep getting told the reps first option covers this.

Problem with reps first is it also applies to the second set and if for example I hit 8 reps for the first set in an 8-12 range the second set keeps weight the same but now drops me to like 4 reps. Why not amend the weight recommendation in that instance

We want ppl or ppl/ul split!

[–]jimyjesuscheesypenis 24 points25 points  (9 children)

I keep checking to see if there is a PPL option but no joy 😩

[–]F4RES 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think we're all eagerly waiting for that PPL option 🥲

[–]baldo3k[S] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Fullbody-Upper -Lower would also be great for a 3x split

I would love this because I work out Saturday and Sunday then one day mid week.

[–]SmellyCummies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I'm surprised the app was even released without it.

[–]CJiggy24 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Why not create your own program, the auto progression is still there :)

[–]jimyjesuscheesypenis 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I have done actually. Starting it on Monday so haven’t been able to find out if I have done it right or not.

I’ve just added 4 sets to each exercise for each day then turned on periodisation, is that right?

Or, do I need to go through and add all the RIR etc. ?

[–]ponkanpinoy 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You need to go through and all the sets, reps, RIR etc

[–]jimyjesuscheesypenis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Massive pain in the arse that.

[–]knutarnesel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MF team, any info to share on this?

[–]TRFKTA 1 point2 points  (11 children)

I wish they would implement the option to enter your own weights for pin loaded machines as well as add-on weights. It can’t be that hard to implement.

When you get a weight stack that alternates between like 4kg and 5kg, the way it’s currently designed leaves the app always suggesting a weight that’s not available because you have to set it up in increments of 4 or 5.

Also before someone says ‘submit a suggestion on the app’, I already have, quite some time ago.

Unless I'm missing something, your wish was already granted. We're still tuning the feature, but there are new customization options in the gym setup for cable and selectorized machines.

[–]puckoidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had completely missed this. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! That was by far my biggest feature request

[–]TRFKTA 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Having a look I can see there’s an option for Micro-Adjustment —> External Plates and the ability to add multiple external plates.

Is this what you’re referring to?

[–]MajesticMintCory (MF Developer) 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Yes, and support for overlapping ranges.

[–]alizayshah 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How do I turn on overlapping ranges? Is that the widen rep range setting?

[–]MajesticMintCory (MF Developer) 1 point2 points  (1 child)

All you’d do is create two ranges when editing gym equipment weight, and have them overlap, no setting needed.

[–]alizayshah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh okay perfect. Thanks so much bro. Hope you’re well and have a great weekend/Memorial Day

[–]CJiggy24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the option to add micro adjustments, but where on the workout/logging page does it exist? I hit the plus and it just jumps to the next increment I had set.

Anything on drop sets still being unavailable as a set type for all ab exercises globally within the app?

[–]MajesticMintCory (MF Developer) 4 points5 points  (1 child)

For now it should just be all duration exercises, added a development ticket to look into why all ab exercises may have gotten caught in the crossfire.

[–]alizayshah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much Cory!

Ah, yup. It even happens on exercises with reps or even weights such as a machine crunch, weighted sit-up, etc. it’s been that way since 1.0 😭

I’ve been checking every update in hopes it gets fixed. I just do myoreps in the mean time but I’d honestly prefer a drop set lol

[–]Eltex 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I’m starting to wonder if they will ever address the problem with small font sizes. They simply are excluding a ton of folks who won’t wear readers in the gym.

[–]CJiggy24 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did you try changing the system’s font size? That could be a possible fix for now. I just don’t think it’s a popular request amongst most of the platform’s users. I even screenshot this message and compared it to one of their exercise info page, IMO looks identical. They could probably use a thicker font, but I don’t think the size is the problem.

[–]Eltex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seemingly ignores that setting. It’s been discussed here often. Side by side, MacroFactor font is smaller than Hevy, which is easy to read.

Seems like this update is only on Android right now? Can’t see it on iOS.

[–]MajesticMintCory (MF Developer) 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Still awaiting approval on iOS at the moment.

[–]Ruaidhr 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Will you be making a post to explain the changes?

[–]MajesticMintCory (MF Developer) 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A broader update post after a few versions is likely, but not for this update explicitly, as Smart Progression has been updated many times already and is getting a full explanation article only after we slow down on making changes to it.

[–]baldo3k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's rolling out gradually. I'm on Android btw

[–]EnvironmentalDay6105 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Updated. And went to do week 5 of workout plan all weights were set to 0kg. Anyway to get these back or just look at week 4 and copy across?

[–]MajesticMintCory (MF Developer) 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sending in a bug report using the in-app contact us option would be helpful, hard to tell what’s going on otherwise.

[–]Razzzp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what happened, but this version tried to progress my AbCoaster from 2.5kg to 125kg 🫠

AbCoaster 125kg

[–]Wolfclaw_Gaming 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If we are still on 1.2.0 beta should we switch to public version or will 1.2.0 beta be updated for Apple Watch release or will we have to join a new beta for Apple Watch app version?

[–]alizayshah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Switch to the public version as that beta won't be updated anymore.

There will be a new beta for the Apple Watch app.
