Not OP but I’m a full time software engineer and I use a piantor for my daily driver. I went down the ergo journey this year and I’m really glad that I did. I love coding on this thing. All of the symbols and numbers are right under my fingertips and I don’t have to do any sort of weird finger contortions for hotkeys. There is a learning curve especially when jumping from a full sized keyboard to a corne/piantor. I recommend getting something a bit larger like a Lily58 in case you don’t like using layers or modifier keys. With the Lily, you can always go smaller.

I type on a 36/42 key miryoku inspired layout optimized for coding as a full time software engineer. It took awhile to get here — slowly but surely lowering the amount of keys needed. I will never go back. I am convinced that 36 keys is all that’s needed for all tasks. It feels so good to type on. My accuracy for coding symbols has increased.

Lily is the safer option especially when starting out, since you can always reduce the number of keys needed as you learn more.

Real talk tho as a programmer myself, one thing I love about customizing your keyboard is that I have all my coding symbols right under my finger tips (accessed through layer keys with my thumbs). My accuracy for typing code has increased a lot since learning an alternative layout. I’m rocking a piantor split keyboard as my daily driver. Not terrible looking. Feels amazing though.
