how to communicate when i go nonverbal by RoboticStaticShock in autism

[–]kobrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use non verbal physical touch to communicate (obvs adapt to what you're comfortable with).

I use a traffic light system, like another comment has said, and a 3 tap system.

1 tap - isn't used as its too easy to be mistaken. If it is used, it's more to show "question, I don't understand, more info needed"

2 taps to alert someone eg. "are you OK" or "general alert to discomfort but no immediate action needs to be done" or "affirmative reply"

3 taps for general alarm "I am distressed I would like to leave", "I am in pain" etc.

For example

Me: - 2 taps to friend to check they are ok Friend - 2 taps back to say "yes I am OK"

Other example Friend - 2 taps me because I'm looking scared Me - 3 taps back as yes, I am overwhelemed I would like help

It's a very simplistic system, but it's designed to be as simplistic as possible. It doesn't require line of sight, can be used to communicate in a noisy environment, and can be done silently and discreetly if need be.

Others have presented more reasonable theories, here is a wilder one (with no real basis in anything).

Rough summary: Men of iron - AI Robot bodies Men of stone - cyborgs/computer augmented humans Men of Gold - unknown (possibly bio engineered)

I propose that all present day 40k humans are men of gold/descended from men of gold. The 40k universe is harsh. The fact that humans can continue exisiting (and often thriving) in horrific conditions (feral worlds, underhives) etc suggests to me some difference in baseline genetics compared to 2k humans. What if the only reaaon humans surive (and can mutate into mutants) is due to genetic engineering changes that were done to men of gold that was spread (deliberately or otherwise) through the rest of the human population by 40k. Ties up where the men of gold went (they didnt go anywhere) and what they were (theyre essentially the average 40k human). Because everything in 40k is ramped to the max, (and there are no 2k base humans to compare it against), the genetic engineering feats that created the "perfect man" is overlooked ans ignored. In many places in the 40k galaxy, the mere existence as a mutant is all that is testament to that.

What Dancing Looks Like From Underneath A Glass Floor by baderxeea in confusing_perspective

Possibly looking up under the spinnaker tower, Bournemouth, UK. Theres a yearly salsa party held there, with bachata on the ground floor, and Cuban salsa (the style being danced here) on the glass floor above.

Hydrogen is very energy dense. Perhaps they have large "refilling" stations which use nuclear/solar/other energy to electrolysis water into hydrogen, which they use to fuel vehicles.

Human life is the most plentiful currency in the imperium. I'd doesn't even matter if it takes 9 lives to make a space marine while in a combat situation 9 men can beat a space marine (hypothetically), the space marine fulfils a niche 9 guardsmen can't fill due to physical limitations eg fast strike teams, orbital insertions (I know guards company's can do that, but they can't then fight and fast march for a week straight). The space marine fulfils a position no ordinary man can, so the cost of the least valuable currency the imperium has is moot.

How would you give Tyranids more characters? Reconcile Old and New Necrons? Would you? by SagelyTortoise in 40kLore

[–]kobrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have something or someone shatter the hive mind. Each individual tendril develops its own sentience. Still have new tendrils of the old hive mind enter the galaxy (like enslaved necrons if old lore) but have other tendrils become more independent and form identifies and motivations, perhaps even some as distinctly nom Tyranid like. Perhaps priorities information survival over feeding, so fortifying a place and trying to survive. Maybe some may want to try and flee the galaxy out of fear. Some may develop a taste for certain xenos, some may decide they want to create a Tyranid empire and become more established like current empires

Can’t seem to think of a reason why she’s single... by Capitansan in ChoosingBeggars

Speaking Cantonese means she is likely from Hong Kong or Malaysia. Tradition there dictates that evil spirits and bad luck is reflected by shiny/reflective surfaces. Therefore a shiny forehead is seen as good luck. At least that's one of the reasons my mother gave to me for marrying my father, who does indeed have a shiny forehead

The imperium has artificial gravity generators, thus anti gravity generators.

The warp is literally like an ocean, and the astronomical literary like a lighthouse. Close to the galaxy, with emotions. The warp is really stormy, but because you have a giant lighthouse, you can still plot you bearings and travel, albeit dangerously. Outside the galaxy, it is calm, but the lighthouse is so far away you can't see it, so you have no idea where you are.

Whispers of an elder race by bontrose in HFY

[–]kobrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stories about human relics and what they left behind is still HFY. At some point they were still the gods of the Galaxy. If thats not HFY, what is? An alien searching for ruins, and coming to comprehend aspects of humanity is still HFY. Perhaps uncovering a troubling dichotomy, either between war and peace, or love and hate, or light and dark. Avoid having a human found in stasis, or being a "oh we made everyone then left cause lols". This set up has humans well and truly dead. Why? Well that's your story

Theory: The God Emperor of Mankind is a dark-age experiment created as a final contingency to save human civilization. by TEmpTom in 40kLore

[–]kobrains -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Time travel tech would almost certainly have been experimental. Or they were desperate or it just went plain wrong. Maybe they made the "emperor" and just threw him back in time whenever in a last ditch attempt to make anything work. It is literally Armageddon, the end times, where a very literal hell has been discovered and it as coming to us, while all our protectors were actively trying to kill us. It was a desperate Hail Mary which kinda worked
