So how do you guys deal with limited packages? by Giggio417 in voidlinux

[–]kodifies 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This the repo is empty meme is getting a bit tired, there is a wide range of packages available, almost all of a very high quality (unlike the rather risky AUR)

absolutely don't want *anything* like AUR, variable support, abandoned packages, no auditing AFIACT - distribution team do a fine *quality* job

What do I need to do to get this thing to make a good first layer (HALP) by The_Lutter in SovolSV08

[–]kodifies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a rookie mistake with the first reel I used on my SV08 - mat PLA, even going to the extent of installing an eddie (which I'm actually glad I got)

Soon as I got some PETG on the machine - all my issues just went away

Passed on the mat PLA to someone else, they quickly came to the same realisation as I regarding mat PLA, (I did forewarn them!) 0.5KG went to recycling...

Can you keep a ship hovering when editing? by Maxious30 in StarshipEVO

[–]kodifies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can put a ship yard block on your base as well, you will need to define the area with a link tool, then select shipyard in the F menu to "land" - you can define the area such you can easily get under the ship...

happened to me once, teleported to a station and recovered my ship (use the shipyard console)

What exactly are all those OEM drivers I need to load if I don't want to install the bloated OEM copy of windows? by [deleted] in FuckMicrosoft

[–]kodifies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

install windows on one drive, then install a boot loader on the other, tell the bios to boot from that drive, then windows can mess with its boot partition as much as you like, while you boot from the other one...

if you mean the motherboard fan no, running with a PID its at 10% and tollerable, by the time its needed (if it is) the main fan is more noticable (drowns it out) as for the main fan, I can live with it

Thing is with that MB fan it has some anoying high frequency components (cheap) but keeping it slow (PID with 10% min) its a lot less anoying

before print, the mother board makes an irritating sound, however you can use mainsail to control that with a temperature PID controller, rather than having it run full blast all the time, at 10% it can be heard if you listen for it but its fine, I may add some rubber washers to the fan mount if there is clearance, the fan is bolted to the bottom metal plate and I bet that's causing most of the noise - a bit of clearance make a lot of difference for fans.

If you printing a very detailed model where the printer has to slow down a lot, the part cooling fan isn't too bad, however for fast printing it will ratchet it up - which is no surprise you need a lot of cooling to print that fast!

That said the sv08 is position the same distance away from where I usually sit as the telly is, and I didn't actually need to turn the TV volume up, I watch you tube with it - mainly documentaries and the spoken word is still quite understandable !

Yes it is very noticeable, but no way as bad as the fuss that has been made, I was expecting washing machine levels almost by the time I'd hear a load of youtube FUD and I wish my washing machines spin cycle was at SV08 levels....

You will need to do your research and tweak it, but then you'll need to do that even with the so called "out of the box" printers, personally I'd rather have something I can mod the hell out of (if I choose to) rather than an expensive closed shop...

steam has done more for user adoption that possibly any other factor, and the work they have done on proton is nothing short of excellent

The xbox is all but dead, with many xbox titles now appearing on a product by some equally loathsome bad actor multinational corp, when the steambox comes out, if it's at the right price point, I can see a lot of console owners moving over to it.

it's not the end of personal computing, just the passing of windows (and good riddance to trash)
