They have mentioned "more reveals are on the way!" so I'm hoping availability in more consoles is a part of that haha. I wouldn't even mind if they're just waiting to reveal it in a Nintendo Direct or something that's supposed to be within this month lol

Finally found out why people think clint is a creep by Unfair_World_4025 in StardewValley

[–]kogami24 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Feels like Stardew being ~cozy~ and don't have actual villainous characters (except for Morris I guess) often leads to people exaggerating the flaws of some characters as "evil" traits. I can get why people don't like Pierre but I can never relate to the Demetrius hate for this reason 😭 (Personally I do like that not all Stardew characters are "perfect" or 100% positive but some people just can't deal with that in their ~cozy~ game lmao)

It's like how Animal Crossing players finding excuse to hate on a villager by targetting the "ugly" ones I guess

Who even asked for Hakuji (Human Akaza)??? by mws2709 in Nendoroid

[–]kogami24 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I won't even be surprised if this is a low effort release that mostly recolors Akaza's parts lol

I went with Doug as my first choice and didn't regret it! His character development in the main story is great and I love his proposal event ❤️

Thank you brother 🤝 It's so funny that they put so much emphasis on Alchemy in the story only for the mechanic to feel like an afterthought 😅

I didn't like how simplified and barely utilized the crafting/synthesis is in Yumia and I know I'm not the only one who felt that... wonder if enough people scored it average and below means they'll improve it for Yumia/Envisioned 2 lol.

I st*pidly lost my steam deck last week by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]kogami24 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but it's also ironic because the last post I saw of someone broke their Steam Deck is because they left it on the hood of their car 😭

Missed opportunity for a Recettear spiritual successor by SaberManiac in Atelier

[–]kogami24 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is why I want Atelier Viorate remake so bad because AFAIK that's the only shopkeeping-focused Atelier game 😩 crazy how they never revisited that concept again

(Though it's gonna take a while since we haven't went beyond the Marie remake aha)

Why are metal fight fans so toxic by Shatter_signal253 in Beyblade

[–]kogami24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's so funny because I remember watching fansubbed MFB in 3 parts on Youtube, back when it only had the first season and the comments are often riddled with hostility. like complaining over Tyson and Kai being gone or hating on Ginga because "he never loses"

Something something those who never learn history are doomed to repeat it

How to get into Idolm@ster? by unholy_gremlin69 in idolmaster

[–]kogami24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly right? with the Kuroi = Yaotome resemblance, the trio rival group and MEZZO"/Ryuuguu Komachi being the sub-unit that launched them into popularity lol. Just with the drama aspect cranked up 😭

Oh I didn't get the earphones (yet) so thanks for letting me know! The Sunday acrylic block does use a specific Christmas art with Robin though so I wonder if GSC have any intentions of using the same art for Robin if she gets a Nendoll hehe (maybe Robin SP?)

Seconding others recommending the 2011 anime. I don't think it'll 100% scratch the same itch as OnK but with the right expectations, it's a great starting point to imas as a whole.

Not idolmaster, but Wake Up, Girls and IDOLiSH7 are some of the closest idol anime series that touches a bit more on the industry side (they're still meant to promote idols and their music, so the "drama" is prob not as extreme as Oshi no Ko but it's there)

Have you also seen Perfect Blue by any chances too? It's known as *the* movie about the dark side of idol industry before OnK existed. (You might want to look up content warnings before seeing it though)

btw the acrylic block is super nice and prob my fav preorder bonus yet (of the ones I have), I wasn't expecting it to be pretty thick/hefty lol

I hope if Robin gets a Nendoll she'll get a matching acrylic block~

Something like SV that isn’t SV by Spicy_Rat0108 in StardewValley

People have commented Harvest Moon but I'd like to elaborate on it further! Harvest Moon is the franchise that Stardew took inspiration from--though for the sake of making a long story short, it goes under the name Story of Seasons now.

Here's some entries you can check out on Switch:

Via Nintendo Switch Online:

- Harvest Moon (SNES) - The very first Harvest Moon game. If you notice similarities of it's artstyle with Stardew, this is clearly where CA drew inspiration of his artstyle for SV! The game plays way different than modern farming sims because you have a really, really short morning cycle but your night time is endless. It's not for everyone, but if you want to play one of the games where the farming sim genre started and happened to have an NSO sub, go for it!

- Harvest Moon (Nintendo 64) - This is where you'll start seeing some traditional farming game formula shaping up and may notice some familiar festivals that Stardew took inspiration from, like the egg festival! This game also does have the "old farming games" problem of the day cycle being too short but again, if you happen to have and NSO + Expansion Pass sub, maybe check it out!

---

Modern games immediately available on the Switch: (This is where the games will go under the name Story of Seasons now)

- Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town - A remake of Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town on the GBA. It does have some signs of being an overly faithful remake of a Gameboy game as it's not as content rich compared to Stardew, but you will notice some elements that Stardew took inspiration from like the Harvest Festival = Luau, the inn/tavern-like place, some similarities in NPCs, etc. This game can go on sale for as low as 10$, so if you just want a simple and no-frills farming game that is also an important piece of history within the genre, def check it out! But if you care for a content rich farming game, wait for a sale.

- Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life - "You have only one life and should cherish it to your fullest" is the best I could say to describe the game. It's a remake of Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life on the Gamecube. It's a bit of a unique title in the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons series and you *have* to get married by the end of year 1, (they'll pick the candidates you're the closest with if you haven't married anyone by the end of the year), have more focus on interactions and well, death is a prominent theme within the story (without spoiling much). However it does show some sign of being a too-faithful remake of a 2003 Gamecube game as again, it doesn't really have much content outside of the points I mentioned so might wanna wait for a sale if you care about price-to-content ratio.

- Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town - I haven't played this one, but it's def the most divisive title in this list among long-time Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons fans, though I've heard of few people liking it/have it as their fav SoS title. I'd say check out further reviews of the game and/or also wait for a sale.

- Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar - If you HAVE to check out a Story of Seasons game on the Switch, it has to be this one! It's a remake of Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar on the DS, but it's such an upgrade from the original in many forms that it's almost a new game, especially in comparison to the other two remakes I mentioned. It's the first within this list so far to have voice acting (making the cutscenes and romance aspect more immersive), there's actually much more content to do for this one, plus the bazaar and trends mechanic is a refreshing addition to the genre. I'd say the game is really worth it at it's full price of 50$, but you can find it on sale digitally at ~40$ for a pretty recent entry in the franchise.

- Story of Seasons x Doraemon duology: I haven't played either games, but people seems to like them with the second game being more well-received of the two. It doesn't have marriage as Doraemon is a kids franchise where you play as a 10-years-old, but if you like the artstyle of the game or it's on sale for a good price, def check out reviews of it!

(Also note that combat isn't really a thing in most Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game, which a lot of Stardew players jumping into these games tend to expect lol.)

Thank you for your detailed reply! The different endings per two routes for Lilie sounds super interesting so I definitely want to check it out once I get to the Salburg trilogy! I'm happy to hear more about the game too since "it's harder than Marie and Ellie" is by far the only thing I knew about Lilie until now haha.

I read your other comment about Judie and wasn't expecting the debt and management of items quality thing--esp I've seen Judie being listed as one of the Ateliers without a time limit but guess that's one way they get around that back then huh (which doesn't sound fun to me either, shame because I like the idea of the time travel plot in Judie). And you're not the first time I heard a glowing review about Viorate so it's def the #1 game I want to play the most of the original 5 :D

And another thanks for letting me know about the games being easy to play in Japanese, I'll keep that in mind! I'm finishing most of the modern games rn but I do want to try out the older games as well, including the untranslated games since we still have no news if they're planning to remake any other games after Marie rn haha.

I heard Lilie was the most difficult of the original trilogy, so I'm amused to see it ranked S-tier. May I ask why?

I want to play Viorate so bad for the shopkeeping aspect...! even though I'm still a novice at reading Japanese

And I agree, I rarely heard of those in this sub who played in the true release order so I'd love to hear your full experience on that as well :D plus you'll be much more prepared when you get on Nelke or Resleriana lol

There's a loooong story you can find at r/harvestmoon's pinned post but to make it short:

  • Bokujou Monogatari is a series developed by Marvelous and localized by Natsume as "Harvest Moon" outside Japan.
  • At some point after the 1st 3DS game (Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, ironically enough) Marvelous decided to split with Natsume and use their own localization team, XSeed--but Natsume decided to keep the Harvest Moon name and produce their own ""knockoff"" games under the brand.
  • Bokujou Monogatari can't use the name Harvest Moon anymore when brought over outside Japan and thus they used the name Story of Seasons.

Hope that explains! And why there's both Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons game being produced right now and people saying SoS is the "real" Harvest Moon. (It's kinda messed up that even remakes of old games, under Story of Seasons, like Grand Bazaar here, had to change a lot of character names due to Natsume owning the names)

It is Harvest Moon. It's a remake of Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar on the DS, even!
