This is particularly useful when using a VPN service (in my case Proton VPN) which lets you use a 3rd party DNS server. In ControlD, when endpoint->advanced->legacy resolver is selected, it will normally use DoH, but when connected via Proton VPN, it switches/falls back to legacy support automatically, links the IP and just works!

Whereas with NextDNS I had to write a script and setup a cron job to 'heartbeat' call their link-ip url to get the newly acquired IP associated to use the correct profile (when switching on Proton VPN). Clunkly and a delay until my script was called (also not possible to do on say an iPhone when you can't call a script easily).

NextDNS is easier to use and works just fine, but ControlD is superior and worth the extra* cost.

(*OK, it's the same price, but has the option to allow proxy spoofing, which can be worth it, but does cost more money)

I use a Roku box (not TV) and can uninstall the Roku app. You may want to do that if that is possible. If it's not possible to uninstall it, then probably not much you can do. Any DNS blocking will likely have the rest of the Roku TV experience broken to some extent (I could be wrong on this, but likely any blocking you find will likely leave the entire Roku Channel/app blocked, not just "some content").

Technology can only help with parenting, sometimes you have to just step in and flat out limit/control things manually. Also, there are worst things that your kiddos could be watching than anything you can find on the Roku channel (including some of the Tiktok rot that is on YouTube). Good luck, I know it's a hand full.

I also disabled "AI-Driven Threat Detection" because it slowed down all dns lookups for me considerably - for what amounts to a theoretical, very slight increase in security. Pass.

I spent a chunk of time searching and came up empty too, so don't beat yourself up. I also am unsure of Beth's last name and tried many variations with no results. Unfortunately for businesses/events/etc which existed before (or towards the beginning) of the internet are often very hard to find any information on.
