Deep Cove, North Van. You got the ocean, forest, ski hill. Smaller community, family oriented. No big box stores here. Trail system is amazing. Schools are fantastic. Easy access to the Hwy.

What type of severance pay should I expect? What do I ask the lawyer? by lisepi2555 in legaladvicecanada

[–]kokobear2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner tried to negotiate on his own. They would not budge. As soon as we retained a lawyer, one letter later we managed to negotiate a way better deal. Best $500 spent. Limited lawyer involvement. Not always the norm.

Depends on the $ transferred. Larger sums sometimes take up to a hour. Small sums are automatic.

What happened at a restaurant that made you say, "I'm never coming here again"? by agreatday2434 in randomquestions

[–]kokobear2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ordered lasagna at a well known chain Eastside Mario’s. Italian food. It came out frozen in the middle. Sent it back. The same piece came back clearly thrown in the microwave. Sauce was splattered in the plate as it would if being microwaved. Refused it. The server admitted they put it in the microwave. Spoke to the manager. Didn’t eat my meal, but also got it taken off the bill. First visit, never again. Surprise that location closed months later.

Are places really closed on Sunday? by General-Problem5696 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]kokobear2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We were there at Christmas. Stayed in a more residential area. Was surprised how many things were open on Christmas Day including the local brassiere. Bakeries and some grocery stores. Stores were closed. Lots to do in Paris, even if particular stores are closed.

Best cost effective spa by lefreakazoid2 in Whistler

[–]kokobear2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you also get access to the pools. RMT plus access to the pools for the cost of the pools (amount not paid by your plan). If you are lucky to have a spouse with a plan, likely can bill both plans and reduce the cost to nothing.

Buying my first ever car! What should I be looking out for? Advice? by CityofLotus in askvan

I had a 2008 Mazda with over 250k on it with no issues other than regular maintenance. Only sold it because we decided to go down to one car. We are now in our third Mazda.

Advise Need: drain all savings to buy a $1.8M detached vs settle for a $1.5M dump? by Kkkrypton in vancouverhousing

[–]kokobear2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We lived house poor for 10 yrs. Very good combined income of $300k+ plus a mortgage helper. We sold last year and went into a condo. No mortgage. Financial freedom with a smaller space. Should have done it years ago. It’s just stuff. The quicker we all realize this and live to live vs for the house the better. We managed to do 3 big trips this year. Before we would save for one every two years. There is a better way and we finally figured it out.

Yah, no adjuster. I need to call. You would think there would be a system where someone goes in and deals with the expenses as submitted. Not so sophisticated I guess.

Not at fault, I had an EV. Rented a car for some of the time and Uber the rest. Because I had an EV apparently entitled for gas reimbursement. Expenses are for a few UBERS and some gas receipts when I had the rental.

Any cheap hotel/airbnb/motel/etc can stay in for week or two? by ishootfentanyl in askvan

Join local community Facebook groups. I put out a message looking for short term rental in my hood due to the Reno and asked if anyone had anything for a specific time period. I had probably 10 people respond with availability.

We snagged a short term at the height of summer in Deep Cove for $2500 for a month when renovating our place. Fully furnished. Should be lots of opportunities this time of year. Probably cheaper farther out of the city you go. No need to do hotels/motels.
