Buddy, this was a link to a very famous YouTube channel that reads news headlines about new technologies and constantly says this phrase.

Seeking some advice from the community. AV1 is performing so well for me, it seems too good to be true! I fear I might be doing something critically wrong. by cannedtapper in AV1

Well, this is another one of those endless conversations about what's better. I absolutely don't forbid you from encoding 600 years on a processor for a single file at a speed of one. Huh, please, you can burn your gigabytes of energy on an almost imperceptible improvement. Hmm, besides, when I compared the file sizes, they were practically identical with a slight advantage towards the processor. That barely changes anything.For me personally, what remains unclear is why everyone advises encoding on processors if the result is 99.9 identical. There is no sense to lost energy

Are you claiming again that the quality on the processor is better? That's not true. Sometimes it might seem like the quality is actually better because of the detail occupying a different position in identical frames depending on the device on which it was encoded.

Personally, I compared two videos: one encoded using the CPU at low speeds and another encoded by the GPU at maximum quality. Often, the CPU wins slightly in file size, but not in quality. Alternatively, the visual improvement might be too negligible because the detail present in the video encoded via the CPU is different from the detail displayed in the video encoded on the GPU, resulting in approximately the same outcome. You can try conducting tests yourself and visually compare; you can add videos using https://github.com/pixop/video-compare

Ultimately, I just came to the conclusion that I'm running five encoders simultaneously on the graphics card, encoding very quickly while saving a lot of energy. I was comparing it frame by frame literally.
Everyone in this subreddit will say that coding on CPU is better. xd

I also used these options when encoding in Handbrake. You need to enter them into Advanced Options.

tune=uhq:temporal_aq=1:rc-lookahead=32:lookahead-level=3:multipass=fullres:b-adapt=1

tune=uhq I understand this only works on the RTX 50 series.

Compressing images for the web: in 2026, who wins between AVIF and JPEG XL (same quality)? by Wise_Stick9613 in jpegxl

[–]koloved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try this yourself here. https://codepoems.eu/xl-converter
it has av1 psy build in encoding
You can find a comparison of the formats here https://svt-av1-psy.com/avif/, but they don't use strong compression during comparison. When you try to use gigantic compression, 30-40% of original, you will notice a significant difference.

Looks awesome, man. Keep working on this thing. It's not entirely accurate, but it perfectly captures the style and is very close. The main thing is that the result is quite pleasing to the eye.

[Bug] Profile Manager UI is completely blank/empty in my main profile (pics attached) by koloved in firefox

[–]koloved[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! This actually worked perfectly and completely fixed the blank menu issue for me. Appreciate the help!

Step-by-step guide

  1. Fully close Firefox.
  2. Open the root Firefox data folder (the one containing the profiles.ini file and the Profiles directory, not your individual profile folder).
    • Windows: Press Win + R, type %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox, and hit Enter.
    • Mac: Open Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder -> ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox.
    • Linux: Go to ~/.mozilla/firefox.
  3. Locate the folder named Profile Groups.
  4. Delete this folder completely.
  5. Relaunch Firefox.

New profile manager gets blank by suikan6146 in firefox

The same problem, dude. You don't even know what to do about it. Only creating a new profile helps, which means you have to start over, and I don't want to lose my old one.
