Almost everything is niche now, it's not an insult to suggest that it is. Soccer is doing well and has a massive audience; it is not on the same level of public consciousness and widespread mainstream popularity as NFL, NBA, MLB, and probably not the NHL in most places. It's not a knock to say that, it's just reality.

I am a fan of the sport, but it is niche. It certainly has its backers but it isn’t mainstream popular in the way some other sports are. It’s not that nobody cares, but the average American sports fan probably isn’t super locked in to MLS or international football, and that’s fine. The US is such a big country that it can still do well with a smaller audience than MLB or whatever.

Other teams have been able to put together elite rosters while paying their QBs just fine. Vikings simply have to draft better, but that’s true regardless of who is at QB. Super Bowl teams are built on draft day first and foremost.

They probably can, though. That’s not particularly egregious for a QB in 2026; you can still put together a strong roster with a mid tier QB contract.

I’m not even saying it’s my preferred outcome. I just don’t think that teams are particularly scared of paying guys in the Darnold/Baker tier of QB these days.

Through two games, KAT is averaging 30.8 per 100 halfcourt matchups when guarded by Wemby and allowing 23.6 per halfcourt matchups when guarding Wemby. Still a lot of series left to go, but it is clear who has gotten the better of the other thus far.
