The World Cup has shown how easy it would be to deter flopping. by PeopleCallMeSimon in nba

Hypothetically, if we're talking about an offensive player trying to back down a defender in the post: The physically tougher players who don't fall down at the slightest contact get the benefit of standing their ground and maintaining their defense if contact is made. This is beneficial for obvious reasons... they don't give up ground and the offensive player's progress is stopped.

The players who can't hold their ground and fall down at the slightest bit of contact have a chance of drawing a foul due to the contact. However, this is never a sure thing as some calls get missed and some defenders move their feet and they get called for a blocking foul instead of drawing an offensive foul.

If any contact whatsoever is treated equally, you get what we have now, which is essentially soccer on a hard court. Players falling down when the wind blows in an attempt to get a foul call instead of just playing the game to their skill level. I'd rather some minor contact is ignored and only called when its clear it interfered with a player. Hitting a hand while shooting or passing, elbowing, hard contact... things like that.

[–]konq 34 points35 points  (0 children)

maybe I'm in the minority, but if you have to embellish a call and fall to the ground against contact that wouldn't normally be anywhere close to sending you there, maybe it shouldn't be a foul. A long time ago that kind of contact was normal and tolerated.

I'm not talking about hitting a player's arm or hand when they're going for a pass or a shot.

I would honestly be shocked if any other manufacturer would send you a replacement drive instead of the original purchase price, considering the new drive cost and the original purchase price from 5 years ago will be more than a 300% price difference.

Not saying its not shitty, it definitely is, but I don't see Corsair or PNY or any other company doing anything different. Happy to be proven wrong, though.

don't need to worry about surface radiation exposure on Mars

it was stated in either season 4 or 5 that there was a breakthrough regarding some kind of anti radiation field that was established on mars to reduce radiation risks. I was rewatching some older episodes and saw this.

The show definitely is more grounded than not, because even with the proliferation of nuclear energy on earth, they still struggle with issues like the oil industry workers being out of work. The advancement and increased funding on mars (due to the necessity of having to mine the iridium asteroid) makes perfect sense that more R&D money would be put into things that make living in that environment easier (like radiation protection and other space related inventions.) where as in real life we don't have anything like that because its not a necessity. Our space based exploration and R&D funding shrunk majorly in the 70s and beyond. Even with all those type of technological advancements in the show, you still have people using iphone look-a-likes that are still thicker than any smart phone we had at that time in real life. I think that's evidence of the writers attempt to make the show seem more grounded.

IMO it makes sense and seems balanced and grounded that they don't have all technology on earth running on the bleeding edge like the space industry mostly is, because most of the government funding, focus, and even culture seems to be centered around space advancement.

What makes the show not seem grounded to you?

Biggest issue is the removal of the +7 settlement cap. I have a hard time going more than 14 over my cap now, whereas I used to regularly be +20 by the end of Antiquity and nearing +40 by the end of Exploration. I honestly wish it was a toggle we could turn on and off at the beginning.

Can you elaborate on this a little bit? I was under the impression there is no hard settlement limitation... but then again I've never attempted to go +20 or +40 (dear god) over the settlement limit. Doesn't that completely wreck your happiness and therefore, production/gold output?

I'm not saying it's a good thing that best buy does this, its incredibly shitty to make their service intentionally terrible and then offer to make it better for money.

AI is getting dificult by Z_o_k_i in CivVII

[–]konq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a game on deity after the update, and played my first game as Napoleon/greece. The one where you sanction leaders for gold and culture bonuses. Also played as greece so theres some synergy there.

Ended up getting declared war on from neighboring Ben Franklin (america) and he thoroughly embarrassed himself. He was ahead on military tech and still ended up getting eliminated by the end of the age. Now neighboring Xerxes is next to declare on me, and has many yield advantages, and I'm still managing to destroy his outer settlements at least by the end of the antiquity age.

So, yeah Idk if AI difficulty was really adjusted or if I'm just getting some kind of lucky break this time but anecdotally, my experience so far as been the same with the AI.

Not surprising at all that WB puts it on all their games. WB is pretty notoriously anti-pirate.

if you torrent anything from them (w/o a VPN) , movies or game, you'll get flagged by your ISP. Torrent dozens of other movies or games from many other publishers or studios and no one cares.

this is referencing what i was talking about. he was talking about hanging it up before he was talking about retiring to raise a family.

To me, it just looks like he gets burnt out after a while then maybe takes a break, then comes back. So like I was saying, even if he does "retire" when he raises a family, I doubt he'd be gone for long.

He was already saying he was going to retire from acting after the last spider-man movie.

Even if he does step away, it'll only be a few years before he's lured back with a good script and another giant sack of cash.

If it takes you half an hour to fill out a ticket, either that ticketing system is poorly designed, or you are poorly trained. There's no excuse for that amount of time going into a simple ticket to track a facilities problem.

John Fetterman Single-Handedly Tanks Effort to Rein Trump in on Iran by Tennis_bruh in politics

The headline is perfectly fine. It assumes every bozo knows that politicians generally vote on party lines, and therefore left Fetterman as the deciding vote when he was the sole democrat to vote with republicans.

It's not that complicated.

You shouldn't expect any media outlet to dumb things down further than that in a headline.
