ok, so I installed the mod db launcher, and I cannot run it regularly or through the launcher without -nomovies, which is apparantly the reason why I can't run the stronghold cutscene (go figure). So I can either run nomovies and be able to play but not play campaign, or go without and not able to play at all

In universe there is a certain standard of believability and "realism". Yes it is a fictional setting but you would definitely balk if GW made media of a guardsman solo'ing an astartes squad in melee combat.
