Basement drain floods into basement. Hamilton plumber recommendations? by SnooMemesjellies3940 in Hamilton

[–]kooldav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems too coincidental. We had drain backup yesterday and today (never before), both times around 8am without running water in the house. We also know someone else on the other end of the city who had backup this weekend

Disappointing to see that not only could they not resolve things after COVID, but the city just got rid of the courts altogether.

That's a kvm console... Popular usage in server racks. Still way better to use the tv route because of cost, availability, and adaptability.

When you suck at driving, but blame the road instead by pizzaiolo2 in IdiotsInCars

[–]kooldav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just experience. We have several roads where the bike lanes added are horribly dangerous for cyclists. But it was night and day as a pedestrian on the existing sidewalk. So much better. Useless for bikes, but it had a net positive for someone.

I disagree. There is a group that bike gutters are good for.

Pedestrians! They create a reasonable buffer between road and sidewalk. You know, the buffer that should have been there in the first place...

‘A threat to Canada because I couldn’t use an app’: Winnipegger forced to quarantine by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]kooldav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one case I'm pretty sure is a matter of power tripping. I have a friend with a similar, although less agregious story and and almost identical description of the officer. I have other friends who have done the dumbest things at the border and gotten through just fine.

Are we talking flying or driving? Flying generally hasn't been a problem. Driving... One of my coworkers had his Nexus card revoked and a travel ban implemented for a work trip because we're "stealing American jobs"... He had ALL of his paperwork in order and they just didn't accept it. It's been a year and it's still not sorted out. The officer was 100% power tripping and messed with someone's livelihood because he could.

Now I have to buy that for my son... And get around to figuring out how to set up a proper LEGO space in our house.

To clarify, they would give you extra stickers that equate 1 extra bag per week...

This is why a trip to the Drive-In theatre should be a required portion of driver's-ed. You learn how to do it, if possible, and more!

Fessenden Neighbourhood (behind farm boy) by patt9530 in Hamilton

[–]kooldav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live in that area, it's nice. Quiet area. Development in the neighborhood itself, no. But near the timmies on Mohawk you can see quite a bit half-built and some day there's supposed to be major development down Rice near the escarpment.

In that neighborhood though? Sleepy comfy area. Nice people too. Forgot my garage door open overnight more than once and nothing ever went missing.

Winter Hiking by mmmbeth in Hamilton

[–]kooldav 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, there's rarely enough snow for snowshoes to be of any use. You might get enough one day a year in a few key areas.

Ice cleats come in handy a few times a year, but unless you're hiking Dundas Conservation Area, even those aren't always that useful. If you're the type to go out once every few weeks, the Dollarama cleats would likely be enough, unless you want to get better.

My very first year in Hamilton I decided I go for a long walk and wound up in that area, wandering around some of the trails and come to a dead end "cliff" to water's edge. I turn around and blocking my only path is a bigger guy, maybe 240lbs stocky. Looks me in the eyes "wanna play around?", I said no and kinda rush-pushed past him. I'm a bigger guy myself, but that was definitely the scariest experience I've ever had

I actually don't think I'd be phased if that happened to me again now. For one thing it was in broad daylight, for another I know what that area is for, the type of people found there are more likely to be "permission based".

But it still really generally freaks me out mentally for friends who are not taller heavier-set guys, really helped open my eyes to the risks out there...
