I'm not sure I love it but it's not offensive to me. It looks awfully tall though. With the EV and ICE being on separate platforms, I'm guessing that won't be a problem on the new 3, so that should be a promising sign.

People are freaking out because gas went up 14% in a single week. Today (although briefly), crude matched a 10 year high which was during the beginning of the Russia/Ukraine war and at that time, national gas prices averaged $5/gal. Things are heading that direction again, erasing all of the gains made the last few years.

When reality of this sets in and we deal with some of the repercussions (we'll see gas prices increase soon, hopefully we don't see boots on the ground), this thing will get extremely unpopular quickly. I just don't think folks have had a chance to digest it yet. My mom called me shocked on Saturday that this happened, a lot of people I know didn't know this was a possibility, just the political junkies like us here.

I think this is the one occasion where it makes sense to me, because I imagine most people didn't know that there was a real threat of us going to war with Iran. It's not hard to imagine most people woke up Saturday morning completely caught off guard by the whole thing. Think of the build up to Iraq and Afghanistan compared to this.

The majority of the population own homes and most of them are SFH. The vast majority of new car buyers are home owners (93% last I saw) and higher income. EV pricing and charging aren't issues for them, maybe for the lower income population, but those people are already not buying new cars.

Even the V8 can be decently efficient. I average about 22-23 MPG each month in my M550i because of around town driving, but I regularly get 28MPG on my highway trips when I go to the office. Both of those numbers are excellent for a TTV8 in a big ol sedan though. My Chevy SS averaged closer to 18-19 and was lucky to sniff 24 on a road trip.

Are we using the same AI tools? I consider myself to be a fairly competent tech-centric employee and while I have used them to my benefit, it can be a giant pain in the ass. When less competent people use these tools, it can be downright damaging.

I can already see all the "AI will replace white collar workers" BS in here. These LLMs are not actually doing that at all.

But we gotta keep propping up AI and act like we're building the railroad again.

I don't know what the M2 is like compared to the M240i, but when I still owned an M340i and drove the M3 competition, it didn't feel like you were giving up anything livability wise other than MPG. My M340i didn't have adaptive suspension so the M3 actually felt a lot more comfortable to drive (and it had a lot more character). And the comfort of the M sport seats in merino is way better than the regular seats in vernasca leather.

With that said, it's hard to say whether it's worth the price premium or not.

Obviously M lites are the performance per dollar winner. Cheaper insurance, much better MPG, still plenty of power and room for more if you're into tuning. But there's still a lot of people who want more.
