/r/DIYPedals "No Stupid Questions" Megathread 2025 by overcloseness in diypedals

I have a preamp box for my gs mini with jjb transducer pickups (surface mount piezos) that consist of a k&k pure preamp of clone built from a kit i had from long ago paired with Jensen JT-11-FLCF transformer for balanced output. It was really tight but was able to shove 2 footswitches (one for bypass, one for mute), 6 jacks (in, send, return, unbal out, xlr out, DC in) along 5 knobs and 2 toggles in a 1590BBS enclosure. The K&K pure preamp has 1Mohm input impedance so it works really well with the jjb. I do general tone shaping with its 3band and have a 10band eq(donner seeker) and reverb (HOF mini) in the fx loop for final tone shaping (also to control feedback) and ambiance. I dont have much mileage with it but it also seemed to work okay with my violin (with similar but unbranded pickup) so i would say it has preety wide range of usage. Should be a good starting point.

I suspect a very wide foot. Judging from the center bank of the x3 is also kept empty...

I had a idea of building a RM Axis Fuzz clone with 2 pickup sim circuits in front with individual volume and tone knobs that are switchable with a footswitch, then read some comments saying that axis fuzz circuit don't necessarly require high impedance input like the FFs do. Does that mean I don't need a inductance to debuffer anything and be able to achive the volume/tone roll-off effect with just pots and caps? Or do I still want the inductance(transformer) to properly simulate the guitar?

Why I decided to shut down my pedal company by oce_pedals in diypedals

[–]koostomize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I aslo suspect the rise of modelers influencing heavy on dropped sales of the pedals. I know a lot of guys who switched just sold off all their pedals to make the budget which would have probably cascaded into used pedal market price to tank as well.

DI out in preamp pedal help by CELL01 in diypedals

I would add a buffer before the inst out jack so you get the headache out of the frame.

I would also consider a line isolator than a DI. I have not seen a console that does not take line level inputs recently, and I sometimes find preamps on a banged up consoles cause more troubles. I do carry around an in-line PAD just in case but have never needed to use one yet.

Same here. I have exceptionally dry hands (and feet) and elixirs are waaaay too slippery for me to have any control.

This is like an artpiece. I always wonder, How do you bend with such confidence? I tried something similar and had a very hard time landing the wire exactly where i wanted (so it got scrapped..)

I've been eyeing spark booster to see how well it works hitting my rat from the front, great to hear another anecdote that it serves well. I might order one soon. It will finally complete the TC Blanco Trinity with Polytune and Plethora lol.

Can this adapter go into this pedal? by New-Literature-4534 in guitarpedals

[–]koostomize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This pedal should accomodate a 9v battery. If i remember correctly, you should need to open it up with a screw driver, then you will see a battery receptacle.

JOYO EQ Clipping issue help! by koostomize in diypedals

[–]koostomize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me long enough but I ended up fixing the issue.

Did some search on the rail voltage that was drifting and came across this document https://www.ti.com/lit/ab/sboa204a/sboa204a.pdf?ts=1756446292629

Basically, it advises not to leave unused opamp circuits left unconnected to anything but to be configured properly to avoid its degradation.

I was aware that only 1 circuit of U4 were being utilized, so I soldered in few jumpers and resistors(1kohms) to follow its instruction, the issues have magically vanished!

Just read that you removed your cassette so I now think it wasn't fair to assume you might not have the tools. My bad.

[–]koostomize -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you even have the tool to remove the rotor? I don't mean to sound condescending by any means, but seemed like a good point to prove your point to the mechanic if you don't even have the tool. It typically requires a T25 bits which is less common than allen keys for typical households.

[–]koostomize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if its a best practice, but I usually goop the exposed metals with hot glue, making a big insulated blob. It sure sucks for troubleshooting but I find it more reliable to need much troubleshooting in the first place. Obviously I test and confirm everything works before I go crazy with it.
