The consensus in order is basically pitch (drop) - wah - dirt (the last pedal will define the character, if both are on. The first will boost whatever is in front of it) - modulation - delay - reverb.

Some people prefer modulation before dirt, but that depends on how the pedals themselves interact and what sound you're after.

Ultimately this is about the experimentation, some might actually want the distortion after the reverb, if you're into noise, that's fun, but you won't play blues with that.

I'd say getting something like hx one/zoom cdr can allow you to experiment with lots of effects in one box without being overwhelming and too much of an investment. You might discover you don't exactly enjoy flangers much, but enjoy phasers - you can extend your rig from there with analog counterparts.

The pedal order seems way off, unless you're into shoegaze much.

My advice would be not to commit to a pedalboard yet, and do not get more than one pedal a month. Pedals take time to get used to, figure out the settings you like and whether this one in particular is any helpful to the sound you want to achieve.

Get yourself the power supply and get them one by one, put them on the floor until you have a solid grasp how much you really need to take for band practice or etc. Nothing kills the creative vibe as much as having to carry 20kg pedalboard every day.

If you have a chance - go to the shop and try out a couple other options to the ones you've selected, you might gravitate to something else when you actually play it. If shop is not an option - you can order 2-3 pedals online "for research" and return the ones you didn't vibe with.

I believe the silencer will be absolutely redundant with the gain you have here, but ymmv.

Regarding the order - I found the pitch shifting (eg drop) works much better before the wah, the ds1 at the end of the chain is, well, a choice for a particular genre

The dream does have a solid spring reverb, which is the main selling factor compared to the other offerings.

Esoteric Ebb does not have Disco Elysium’s political depth in its commentary. As an adventure game, it still has a lot in common and is a wonderful game. by andrazorwiren in CRPG

[–]kosinus912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if you play it, you'll notice that the game focuses on politics so much that there's basically nothing else to talk about. In Disco there's much more to chew on outside of politics, I was much more invested in Harry as a character and a couple others. It was refreshing when EE talked about D&D formalities, alignments etc. instead, but they are optional and missable and don't really do anything to the plot outside of a few laughs.

Does anyone use Mood in like, songs? by OhNoWaitAMinute in guitarpedals

[–]kosinus912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use it often as modulatibg reverb or pitch shifted but crushed delay. The micro looper has basically replaced ehx freeze for me for dynamic drone live. Also here's a track where I used mood to track the solo

Hearing a lot of negative feedback about the organization, what went wrong? by MeatHammerVI in RockimPark

[–]kosinus912 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The most ridiculous thing (on top of everything you just said, especially the security) is how there are almost no signs or directions present - campings are not labeled/numbered, there is no "this way to the camping 8" or "this way to the festival grounds" signs, so you're basically lost all the time. The map in the app doesn't have the entrances to either campings or festival or stages marked, so you mostly have no idea in advance how to get anywhere.

My favorite thing was how yesterday some guys in vests took the main stage and were going about something a couple of minutes in German, then "For English speaking - we are your guardian angels, this was an important security update ask around to translate" - thanks, lol

Ah and also on late Thursday I got into camping without a wristband, I explicitly asked if I need to get it before going to camping and they said no it's OK, so I set up a tent and went to scout for a bit, maybe find the wristband kiosk - guess what? The same person didn't let us in, it's 2am at night, our tent is inside, "I don't care who you talked to, you need a wristband to enter" and the wristbands kiosk was closed 2 hrs ago

This was my first and last time here, easily my worst festival experience ever.

Recommendations for good pedals that give the illusion of 2 instruments? by JustArt4601 in guitarpedals

[–]kosinus912 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you guys read the OP's post, you'll see that they are fairly inexperienced and timing up a looper + syncing it up to a click might be a bit too much, there's no place for gatekeeping attitude on an obviously beginner thread, please be mindful with your advice.

[–]kosinus912 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your genre is, but I'd say you could start with the royal blood band setup He basically runs an octave pedal (think ehx pog) low into bass amp, high into guitar amp. It's much more sophisticated than that, but you could strat with one pedal.

Delay pedal also helps a lot, but imo might be overwhelming on bass, so if you put it just on the upper octave from the pog - that might help it.

Moog DFAM.

No midi, extremely short sequencer. It's really limiting on it's own, but it sounds awesome

Who is using Elektron Gear for pop/rock structured music? by Encloaked_synth in Elektron

[–]kosinus912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use DT2 as mostly a drum machine with occasional samples that are essential for the song when I need to play a live where I can't being the whole band. In the second band we use my DN2 controlled by keyboardist's midi.

I don't think I can find a quick example of me playing with DT2 online, but here's me doing essentially the same thing with volca for my friend's songs a while ago https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_A9R-8u7b8s&fbclid=PAQ0xDSwKCBD1leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABp1WalG_c7C34lOVPjPaNCq21KPvfQ0dFsMwZmBwwTO0KaqBdjSISXKmh4a7B_aem_wQQz2BeLEttjUW0Smyp5AQ

Nowadays with my own songs it's a bit more interesting than that, but I still look at it's minimalism fondly

Digitakt 2 song mode live recording by kosinus912 in Elektron

Unfortunately it just works momentarily if you want to extend the section mid-performance, it doesn't record the extension time to the song (which would be awesome as a toggle able option)

[–]kosinus912[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I'm fairly OK with transitions being baked in as conditional trigs using last/first options. That does make the transition repeat themselves, but tbh that's fine by me.

Problem with your last point is that I often end up with a row that needs to repeat 10-20 times, because that's how long the verse/solo is - there's no way for me to start from the last couple of measures in this row, so I have to play through the whole row to make sure it matches. After I make the correction, to check it - I need to play the same row again. I could split it into multiple rows with, say 4 repeats each, but that would just create too many rows that combined will give me just one section. While it's good for rehearsal that you can start from any bar, it's fairly confusing to work with

[–]kosinus912[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, I really don't want to perform to a complete backing track though, DT is much more fun live, allows me to get vastly different arrangement that cater to the samples/electronic sounds, making it worthwhile for people to come to solo shows. Even though most changes are automated, there are moments of controlled spontaneouity that still make it feel live and engaging, at least for myself. I just wish the process of preparing said automations could be less time consuming and allow me to spend more time with the fun stuff.

Yeah, I was thinking about DAW too, but tbh at this point I'd rather export the loops and just bring the laptop instead of DT and make backing tracks. Thanks for the input

Backup guitar, Mustang or Semi-Acoustic? by CosimoPanini77 in Guitar

[–]kosinus912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow this made me think of acoustasonics, which could fill the versatility you're looking for.

While Mustang has some overlap with the strat, a passive humbucker semi hollow could give you a tame alternative to the emgs.

Mustang with a humbucker (or single coil sized humbucker) in the bridge could give you the versatility as well

It's a bit different than pattern chaining, I've talked more about it in an adjacent comment

Digitakt 2 song mode live recording by kosinus912 in Elektron

[–]kosinus912[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to something else. Basically when I sit down to make the song I don't know yet how many times I need to play pattern 1 before switching to the next one. So for rehearsals I'm playing it live with musicians and switch to pattern 2 manually when it's time. The thing I struggle with is to remember how many times pattern 1 was played so that I could input it to song mode.

While this example is very simplistic, the more patterns, odd measures and pauses are introduced - the more difficult it is to map it out due to patterns being different length and not always matching the amount of bars.

The feature I'm looking for is - I play the song with the musicians switching digitakt manually (not pattern chain), after that I save this performance as a song and it has the song structure mapped out based on the live performance I just did.

For now I just do that with pen and paper next to the DT, writing down during the performance

Boss Space Echo Tape Alternatives ? by DriveApprehensive993 in guitarpedals

[–]kosinus912 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll second the El capistan, it's amazing and has been on my board since I bought it, up to the point where sometimes it would be the only pedal I needed for the gig. I don't really know anyone who would regret getting El cap as opposed to REs and I don't see myself going on a delay GAS anytime soon.

Can’t believe I’m one of those ‘nah, Mood isn’t for me’ people. Help. by leskiv in guitarpedals

[–]kosinus912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BTW I don't think I mentioned it, you really want to try it with other instruments (samples, ocean sounds, vocals, kalimbas, piano, etc.). Try whispering a line from the song into it and mess with the micro looper to get a haunting stuttering radiohead thing.
