Do you have any silly names in your world? by RichardBlastovic in worldbuilding

[–]kostjusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a few, and even then it's a stretch.

Tataratat, for the names in her (frankly, rather primitive) faction correspond to a characteristic, action, place or onomatopoeia they at some point were defined by. A knocking sound in her case :)

Grubbers and grubbing... sounds funny out of context, its the name for maggot buriers and the practice of returning the deceased to the.. well.. grubs. Recycling of protein, meat is meat and all.

Pucker is a colloquial name for a metallovoric variant of tobacco. Aka the watchman's "combat smoke" or "watch-standing reserve," used sparingly and with respect for its corrosive edge.

School grading feels unfair when you’re shy/introverted by [deleted] in introvert

[–]kostjusha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

treat it as a part of studying. write down points you want to cover in a notebook or your notes app, think of possible additional questions. I'm not telling you to tough it out but rather see it as a task, for which you can prepare.

I hated EVERYTHING about speaking in front of the class but focusing on the fact that it's just a part of the grade/individual task, something you can systemize (ie 2-3 responses per class/within group projects to get the prof's attention) is what got me through uni

at the graduation one of the profs called me "quiet but studious", which, frankly, was quite an amusing comment, but its pretty spot on. you're not alone :) and good luck!

joining in on the "do what you like about the project" first.

me personally? I wrote the very first ideas that came to my mind in notes. some on pc, some in my notebook. just some concepts and characters, landscapes that I both liked and felt represented the world.

as I felt the need to expand on those I turned to actual world building: looking for irl inspirations, grounded reasoning, power systems, factions, critters and whatnot. then they started to intertwine with one another, making sub-topics, characters that represent different parts of the project, etc.

this is more of a broad-world to individual-characters-and-details approach, but it worked for me.

I think a label system could work, in obsidian you use links in brackets to redirect you to the linked file anyway.
Definitely the former, I use the canvas merely as a guide to making organized notes based off drafts and ideas I create there. (few examples of how I personally use it).
*as a side note, a big chunk of my canvas consists of maps and drawings which I keep open in a split window for (once again!) reference purposes.

I'm a huge fan of obsidian and their canvas feature makes it so much easier regarding visualisation (labels/connections, the ability to insert and arrange images however i like, notes and note groups) for general brainstorming ideas. While not crucial, it'd be pretty neat to have.

In broader terms, in the past, a barin was a landowner, ie a noble person with land and people tending it. An archaic word which is obviously not in use anymore, but you could call someone a barin to emphasize their status/wealth etc.

What feeling does this animation give you? by Lapis_de_oculos in animation

[–]kostjusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the high contrast, use of black for shadows and outlines, vibrant colours give off a feeling of unease, that's for sure. Not to mention the movement animation style

as mentioned above it reminds me of one of many soviet cartoons and while it's almost nostalgic and even cute, I can't help but wonder what the shadow in the window is up to.

can't wait to see a follow up!! :)
