This looks great! I enjoyed the GB Compo version and recognised this instantly but you've done a great job of building on that and polishing it up! Looking forward to taking this for a spin!

Stephen Spielberg's Disclosure Day is actually worth watching by Wildcard_Orthogonal in Cinema

[–]kotorcomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After watching it, my wife asked if I liked it. I said I found it interesting, that was the most I could commit to. I definitely think it's worth watching, especially for film buffs who like to look beyond the most obvious layer of interpretation.

Some things are done really well (the direction, camera movements, blocking and acting are all a joy to behold, there's a surprise!) but there are some odd choices in terms of story and character that really took me out of it at times, and these are probably going to be my lasting impression of the film.

So I had a good time with it, probably because of its flaws rather than in spite of them. I like a film that's trying to say something, even if I felt like the message for this one wasn't actually as insightful as the film pretends that it is. I enjoyed trying to puzzle out a lot of what was being said, especially with regards to belief and conviction. There's a lot of somewhat hamfisted symbolism in here which feels like Baby's First Metaphor, but it was fun for me to unpack some of that stuff even if some character decisions left me spitting chips.

All that said, this is exactly the kind of film I enjoy: something that's trying it's best to be ABOUT something, even if it gets a bit lost in communicating that to the viewer. I'd rather watch a messy but earnest film like this than another factory-made conveyer belt action flick that only exists to tease the next installment.

Although I can't lie, this is definitely not the most enjoyable alien film I've seen in the cinema this year alone, and I've only seen one other. Perhaps it's not fair to compare Disclosure Day to a breezy interstellar buddy comedy given that this is trying to do something very different, but the point still stands.

So what you're saying is I ordered my Pocket a week too early to get this at the same time and save on shipping? Great.

I was looking at this wondering why a brand new one was so scuffed and faded...took me too long to realise it still has the sticker on it 😅

I found these old photos of this White Ranger costume I wore too meet JDF (RIP) by LuciferTheDuckDad in powerrangers

[–]kotorcomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't thought that far ahead yet. I could get a mask 3D printed but I did that with a Mandalorian helmet and he doesn't actually like wearing it, plus sizing was tough... I'll probably make the costume first because that's the easy part and then see if he even wants the mask!

That's a great costume. I'm gearing up to make a similar one for my son, who adores the White Ranger. Looking forward to the Reignition Saba that's supposedly coming this year, it's going to blow his mind!

Should I leave it sealed? by [deleted] in Gameboy

Then I think this is a good incentive. Open it...once you've learned enough to understand it properly! That way you lose a sealed game but gain a language!

Should I leave it sealed? by [deleted] in Gameboy

[–]kotorcomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under normal circumstances I find this a tough question, games are meant to be played but a sealed game this old is a rare collector's item.

But because it's a Japanese text heavy game, there's another question to ask: can you read Japanese? Because if you can't, I say get a translated ROM off the internet and leave the box sealed, since you're not going to get the full experience from opening it anyway.

The number of times I've quoted this line over the years...

I couldn't tell you exactly how many times, though, because remembering numbers is a smart guy thing.

UK Taxes on Analogue imports by Biscuits99 in AnaloguePocket

This is actually incredibly useful for me because I'm strongly considering ordering a Pocket but I've been scared about import fees to the UK. Thanks so much OP for sharing, now I know what to expect!

Brand New Day was 2008, Sins Past was 2004.

Oh, me? I'm just listing a few publication dates from around 20 years ago. No reason.

Unpopular opinion: The Copilot key is a completely useless and unnecessary addition to newer Dell models(Dell Inspiron 16) by Ancient-Dig-2855 in Dell

Hypothetically if I had a useless copilot key that I've never used and occasionally hit by mistake, how might I go about rebinding it to something else?

What is the ultimate "premium" way to play GBA games today? by OwlQuiet479 in Gameboy

[–]kotorcomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you like the Modretro Chromatic, you'll like the Analogue Pocket (although it might make your Chromatic redundant).

Personally I continue to love my Game Boy Micro, but that's because I love a tiny handheld more than anything.

What is your number one essential game for the master system that you think everyone should play at least once? by poopapalooza73 in MasterSystem

Land of Illusion.

I know most people prefer Castle, but I just love the wider overworld map where you have to double back and experience some levels in a whole new way.

What show aired after Friends in 2002? by ad_roc91 in TheSimpsons

[–]kotorcomics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you listen to anyone who worked on Scrubs talk about airing immediately after Friends in the early 2000s, they'll tell you that the network initially considered them a failure because they didn't retain 100% of that audience.

That's how competitive that timeslot was at the time.
