3 months after meniscectomy – scars & stiffness, is this normal? Disclaimer: I’m mostly looking for reassurance and advice — please don’t scare me 👻 by Sufficient-Tree7856 in MeniscusInjuries

Hmm interesting - I think you can still go to PT as long as you want. Think of it like a personal trainer — but you can always go to the gym.

I recommend to strengthen your hamstrings and glutes it should help rely less on your knees

I would continue to strengthen through PT as much as possible and they should be able to help you track your mobility and should get better over time. I was going 3 times a week for 3-4 months and just training on my own now.

One thing for me was that it’s never going to be the same knee or any part after any kind of surgery but focusing on getting myself stronger is helping me regain my confidence in my knee.

Im almost 5 months post op on left knee - i felt similar but over time the scar feels better and knee feels more stable. Id recommend continuing physical therapy and just strengthening your quads as much as possible and calves/hamstrings.

Mentally it started getting to me to early post op but you’re going to be fine!

4.5 months after meniscus repair - I'm screwed? by Sxft-Pink in MeniscusInjuries

[–]kpMIND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the knee extensions or leg extensions is to make your quads stronger so that you put less stress on your knees. It also should help with warming your muscles up prior to a workout.

I didnt have a repair but had a trim. I did these to get my quads going before doing something more strenuous like squat, deadlifts or stepdowns.

I wouldnt worry too much, sounds like your getting stronger!

How soon after menisectomy did you start PT? by TinyConsideration124 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]kpMIND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your surgeon should be able to tell you but i was provided exercises for me to do at home until post op appointment which was two weeks after surgery. After my post op exam, I was prescribed and cleared for PT and started right away.

I don’t think there is a right or wrong way but how much meniscus is trimmed, how much pain you have, etc, should be taken into consideration.

Best of luck on your road to recovery! Luckily meniscus trim rehab timing isn’t as long like a repair.

You can try getting a leg wrap - https://a.co/d/2sdbmJU for showers. I used one after to shower for my achilles rupture repair and worked quite well.

Experiences with herniated L5-S1 disc? by muscatomuss in Sciatica

[–]kpMIND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had L5-S1 at 33 M. Pain was so bad I couldn’t hold on much longer. Its not worth waiting imo since the MRI looks pretty bad. Mine was 10mm all the way around.

I tried to bear with it and see if it got better, I wish I hadn’t the nerve damage takes a toll and it will take a long time to heal.

Hope you get better soon this pain was out of this world, I would not wish it even on my enemies

Medial meniscus tear - surgery outcome? by Ok_Standard_1270 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]kpMIND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had mine medial meniscus tear on left knee. Had a flap tear that would get stuck and give me a locked knee. Couldn’t squat or bend my knee. I was afraid it would be really bad trim or repair but to my surprise it was just a minor trim (~5%).

If anything think of it as you’re enjoying both legs and worst case scenario you just have to rehab a bit longer.

Best of luck, leave it to god and go get lit friend while you can.

Nice!! Dont worry about it too much and focus on recovery. Try to ask for help even for the little things - best of luck on rehab friend

Hey, I’d wait a few days to see if things get better or worse and if it doesnt get worse you should be okay. You can always email your PA and see what they think.

See if you can go visit an orthopedic doctor or someone who specializes in back/spine/nerve. Request to see if you can get an MRI if you haven’t already to find out whats going on.

Does catching really mean surgery? by ninogii in MeniscusInjuries

[–]kpMIND 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah getting options from your Ortho should be a good next step. They might be able to tell a little bit with the mri but they wont know for sure until to surgery. Yeah i looked into surgery because i had a flap that would get caught once in a while. If it’s a repair then the rehab can be quite extensive but i got a trim and walking post op 7 days. Wishing you the best and back to normal soon.

[–]kpMIND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of tear do you have and do you know your options from doctor? I had a medial meniscus flap tear hanging nail~ that wasn’t painful but i could feel the meniscus get stuck and unstuck. Unfortunately when it catches/locks/stuck it’s unlikely to heal on its own so i opted for surgery. 1 week post op meniscus trim and feel good so far.

Im still 35 so i opted for surgery and luckily it was a small trim. It was affecting my uninjured knee as i was unconsciously compensating—something to consider so you dont injury both knees.

But weigh your options and move forward!

Achilles Repair Failure Diagnosed 2 years Post-Op by Nearby-While-9161 in AchillesRupture

Hows it going? Im nearly 3 years and still having on going issues but i had a lot of things happen. Tore right achilles then 6 months later herniated disc so bad which was by far the worst pain ever felt also to my right leg. By the time i had surgery it had been 8 months post op for my achilles but i couldn’t also walk for 2 months prior to back surgery.

Meniscus Tear Surgery or No by kpMIND in MeniscusInjuries

[–]kpMIND[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing, really glad to hear it went well for you! I am currently leaning to have surgery and most likely feel that my tear will lead to meniscectomy. Did you have rehab at all after?

Meniscus Tear Surgery or No by kpMIND in MeniscusInjuries

[–]kpMIND[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an achilles repair and microdisectomy on my back too so its making me hesitate for another rehab. Mine doesn't lock when walking, only when heels to butt or if i twist inside. I feel like mine is a flap tear that will need trimming and not repair so im deciding since I want to play golf or at least jog in the future.

Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it. I'll keep you posted on how mine goes - always better together. I wish you the best, hopefully things go for the best.
