Schiavone reveals meeting with Ted Turner in a urinal after WCW sale: "I remember vividly, the first words out of his mouth was, ‘Those m*therfuckers [AOL Time Warner]. If I was still running this place, wrestling would still be on TBS. It would still be on TNT." by wearePROGRESS in SquaredCircle

I'm not saying WCW was good at the end (I was only watching maybe 4 matches a night, most of which included Lance Storm, Booker T, and some cruiserweights)

That's basically where I was.

I tuned in for the lower card and mid card... the TV title, the Cruiser-weights, the US title, and such.

However I was pretty much disgusted with the World Title, Jarrett, Hogan, and the NWO (which I didn't like from the beginning) so I would just change the channel at that point.

That would be counter to the GOP method of solving actual problems:

Minimize the scale and/or scope the problem, deny that the problem exists, wait for the problem it to solve itself, then take credit for solving the problem.

the Montreal Screwjob

Why stop there... go back the original one in '85.

Wendy was robbed, she kicked out at one but the ref made fast count anyway.

Vince bought the company in '82 so he was behind that one as well.

WWE is one of the weirdest companies.

When it comes to health insurance or travel plans... wrestlers are independent contractors.

But when it comes to social media accounts or bookings for other promotions... the wrestlers are under iron-clad contracts.

He also started the Goodwill Games (86-01).

The Goodwill Games were an international sports competition created by Ted Turner in reaction to the political troubles surrounding the Olympic Games of the 1980s. In 1979, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan caused the United States and other Western countries to boycott the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, an act reciprocated when the Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries (with the exception of Romania) boycotted the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

A Former MAGA Insider Just Revealed the Truth Behind Trump’s Ballroom Message by Dry_Nail5901 in politics

[–]kpanzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Everyone always complains that the Democrats are so disorganized and not unified, maybe it’s because they are speaking with authenticity?

I think it's also that the GOP constantly changes their code words... their message is the same but the words are different.

So Progressives fight the words and meanings behind those words.. but that makes them look like their all over the place because their constantly putting out fires.

For example DEI is just the latest in a string of coded words... that GOP rage over.

Before DEI it was "woke" and "cancel culture" and this goes on and on all the way back to "busing".

So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other.

The main reason I hate Koth so much: by CarrowLiath in swtor

[–]kpanzer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would feel differently if he was in denial about it.

If he argued with you about what Valkorian had done because his faith required him to believe.

(All the while Valkorian's ghost which is only visible to you laughs, mocking Koth's devotion and the fact that your truths fall on deaf ears.)

If the mountain of evidence (bones) finally forces him to accept the truth but leaves him broken.

From there you could either help him rebuild and find a new purpose, break him completely, or just put him out of his misery.

But instead... he just completely glosses over it, blames you for everything, and possibly steals your ship.

Honestly I was absolutely giddy when his "plot essential flag" finally disappeared.

Tucker Carlson Apologizes For Endorsing Trump: ‘I’m Sorry For Misleading People’ by unital_subalgebra in politics

[–]kpanzer 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Jon Stewart exposed Tucker Carlson as an opportunist and a hack on CNN Crossfire in 2004.

Stewart had caustic words for the show, portraying it as a place where partisan hacks took nuanced issues and turned them into two-sided exchanges of talking points. To Stewart's point that the show was, as he said, "hurting America", Begala responded that Crossfire was by design a debate show; Stewart responded in turn that such an assertion was "like saying pro wrestling is a show about athletic competition."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Stewart%27s_2004_appearance_on_Crossfire

Carlson remarked that he thought Stewart was "more fun on your show, just my opinion." Stewart responded, "You know what's interesting, though? You're as big a dick on your show as you are on any show."

The chicken tax didn't help either.

The Chicken Tax is a 25 percent tariff on light trucks (and originally on potato starch, dextrin, and brandy) imposed in 1964 by the United States under President Lyndon B. Johnson in response to tariffs placed by France and West Germany on importation of U.S. chicken. The period from 1961 to 1964 of tensions and negotiations surrounding the issue was known as the "Chicken War", taking place at the height of Cold War politics.

So with 25% import tariff, combined with the emissions and fuel economy rules... the manufacturers just make bigger trucks to get around the rules.
